Why Take the 30 Hubs in 30 Days Challenge?

It's Time for the Countdown!

  • 10. I need a boost right now as I am in between projects.
  • 9. I need to practice and perfect my writing.
  • 8. I enjoy a good challenge.
  • 7. I am motivated to write, so this is the perfect time for a writing challenge.
  • 6. Practice makes perfect.
  • 5. It’s a great way to start a new year.
  • 4. I have tons of notes, pictures, and ideas scattered on my desk, and I would like to organize them into hubs.
  • 3. There’s no time like the present.
  • 2. Just like athletes swim laps before the Olympics, writers need to write laps before writing books. I have several “large” writing projects in the works, so to prepare for the biggest challenge ever, whether that is running a marathon, swimming the English channel, or writing a bestselling novel, it’s important to train, train, train, in this case, by writing, writing, writing.
  • 1. What am I waiting for? I am finished procrastinating…full steam ahead!

Planning for the Challenge

First things first, I have to get organized and make my list of potential hubs.

I already had about 15-20 hubs started with some notes for each, so part of my list was easy to create. For the remainder of my list, I referred to a big folder on my desk where I have been collecting ideas, pictures and notes for quite awhile….now it’s time to turn these into hubs!

My first 3 hubs will be holidays themed. There will also be several technical/computer related hubs, as well as hubs on foods/recipes, job searching strategies, finance, music, and lots more.

Make a Folder for Each New Hub Article

For each new hub, I created a folder containing the hub number and hub name/description. The folder is used to store each hub in a Word document, accompanying images and any other related resource content for the hub.

How To Avoid Having Thin Hubs

If you create a challenge for yourself of 30 hubs in 30 days, to avoid having “thin” hubs, it’s important to do a lot of planning, research and note compiling beforehand. My goal is have as many stellar hubs as possible, and as many “evergreen” hubs as possible as well. I’ve been compiling notes and planning hubs for awhile, and having a challenge is forcing me to stop procrastinating and start writing good, solid content for hubs.

Keeping hubs unique, with lots of original pictures is also my goal, so as not to have repeat hubs of the same topics as others.

Hubber Profile Score as of Today: 91

Inspiration for this hub: For lengthy hubs, I wanted a way to create Return to Top, or Back to Top links, which I sometimes create on lengthy HTML webpages. I couldn’t find a way to do this within a hub but then I saw link in the awesome SEO hub written by Writer Fox called WHAT IS SEO? | SEO Tips and Tutorial 2014. In this hub, Writer Fox created a table of contents at the top of the hub so you can easily jump to specific sections of the hub. I decided to experiment with how to do this. I also reviewed the forum called ”HELP! How do you create a link within a Hub?” created by TDowling, and then I was able to create my own links within a hub.

Hub Published: Catholic Mass Rituals With No Germ Control

Hubber Profile Score As of Today: 92

Inspiration for this hub: In recent past, especially in the cold winter months, when attending church, I noticed that the priests were no longer making announcements like they did in past, that it was either optional to shake hands to make the Sign of Peace during flu season, or that everyone was to refrain from the practice temporarily. I wondered why it wasn’t always recognized especially during the cold and winter season. As others coughed and sneezed, the uncomfortable part of the Mass would once again approach us. Do you shake someone’s hand to be respectful or just nod your head? I thought more and more about the practices of the Catholic Church and how there is no germ control. I wondered if I was crazy to suggest that hand sanitizers be installed in churches. What do you think?

Thanks, RTalloni, I can use some more cheerleaders, so thanks for your support! There's no turning back now...full steam ahead. Thanks again and much appreciated. :-)

Hey easylearningweb. I admire you for taking on the 30 hubs in 30 day challenge. I couldn't do it justice I am afraid. I have written two hubs in one day but then nothing for a week or two. I need to be inspired and never have a collection of prospective hubs up my sleeve..just write when the inspiration strikes. I love how you planned this and your hubs sound interesting as well. Good luck with the remainder...you can do it.

Hey Jodah, I appreciate your comments. I'm not sure what's driving me to do this, but I am definitely on a roll. I have been accumulating hub ideas and notes on a whole slew of topics for quite sometime, so I decided to go whole hog with the challenge (crazy time of year I know). I have some much "bigger" writing projects on the horizon and this is giving me the push I need to move forward.

The support, ideas and comments others have posted have been a big help, including yours, thanks!

Just a word of warning. It's likely that eventually, this Hub will be unpublished for unrelated links, because your Challenge Hubs are on a variety of different subjects so the links are not related. That's not a big deal - if you're lucky it will stay alive for long enough to finish the Challenge! - but just thought I should warn you. Like I said, that's one reason to focus your Challenge on a single subject next time.

easylearningweb profile image

easylearningweb 24 months ago Author

I appreciate your advice and insight, Marisa. I thought about that today...that this hub may end up being too long but honestly it's just a fun way that I thought I would list my hubs, for me to track them and for others to see and hopefully get motivated to create challenges of their own.

I will finish and I can see myself at the finish line, so I can use as many cheerleaders as possible. I guess what I could do is try to contact the Hubpages staff and make sure this hub is ok to continue posting my links on. What I could do is just list the titles and not link to all of them if that is the case.

Thanks again for your tips and help.

So the 30 day challenge is more like 30 days and one week (or more)because before you actually start you get prepared--decide on topics, do research and make notes, and collect pictures. Whew! All, I do is keep a folder on my desktop (a paper folder on my physical desk), and write down potential ideas and titles. Then when I want to write, I look over the list and decide which topic is "calling me" to write it.

easylearningweb profile image

easylearningweb 24 months ago Author

Yes, I did do some planning about a week before the challenge. I also had a bunch of unfinished hubs, so I finished them up. I also made a preliminary list of all the topics that I wanted to write hubs on during the challenge. Some of those topics have changed especially when I discover that I need more time for research in order to complete them. I'm excited about crossing the finish line. :-)

easylearningweb profile image

easylearningweb 24 months ago Author

Hi Monia Saad, ,

Actually, you have the right idea. I recently read that Google likes when authors write about the same topic because then it considers the person a subject on the matter.

My original intent was to only write about computers and technology but I decided to branch out to other subjects. I'm not sure if that increases or decreases traffic. It will be interesting to see how my traffic pattern changes especially after my 30 challenge is completed.

Thanks for your comment, and welcome to HubPages.

Well done on completing your challenge, I only wish I had 30 consecutive days to do it as it sounds like a real booster!

easylearningweb profile image

easylearningweb 22 months ago Author

Thanks, tlcs. I was on a mission, and I had some free time because I was in between projects. Now I'm busy with real work, so no time for daily hubs, but it was definitely an interested experience and I felt great that I was able to accomplish. It was definitely a big booster and now I need another booster to tackle some other goals. I think once you are on a mission, there's a motivational factor there which just can't be explained. It's truly like running a marathon. Then when you're finished, you have to start another challenge, goal or project.

We gotta keep climbing mountains. Yes, it is a great feeling when you ready to top. I guess you can say it's a temporary drug-free high!

Next Challenges:

Tlcs, On Hubpages, my next challenge is to optimize any of my older hubs which are not featured to get them featured again.

Outside of Hubpages, I have set some bigger writing goals for myself this year. On LinkedIn I am a member of an aspiring writers group which has a monthly short story contest. I won twice last year so I am excited that my stories will be published in an anthology book this year. I want to continue writing short stories to add to my collection. Also I have some bigger writing projects in the works.

I will keep you and everyone else informed as I continue to complete my challenges throughout this year.

Thank you for visiting this hub and for asking me about future challenges. :-)
