A false or true following on Hubpages

It's almost becoming like chess

Following people online today and on HP has become quite the ordeal, and when the numbers add up its tough to manage, but takes strategy just like in a good game of chess

Followers on Hubpages

When it seems as if your being followed aimlessly on hubpages or it feels as if your being stalked it can make for a no good feeling. So if you notice such a thing going on behind these scenes here and on your hub account, take notice for starters. make sure to annotate all occurrences somewhere, and to keep track of how many times such a thing occurs if you are to detect any malicious communications from such parties in the near future.

This article is one that is an answer to a Q&A about a hubber who's not sure if some people are following her with good intent or not. Let's hope that this very hub can help her out in some way or another, and to get to the bottom of the issue at hand.

Question: All of a sudden I've been getting a slew of followers.......

Whats to make of the occurrence

For now there's truly nothing to make of it all when a single person chooses to follow another hubber, and has never made any other efforts of making communications, or contact digitally. To me a true following anywhere online let alone on hubpages, should derive from the true interactions between online users, but it isn't the only method people are deciding to utilize on such networks.

Many individuals may choose to go the false following route, which on hubpages gets them no where pretty much, because the system detects of such irregular activity immediately, and definitely that of suspicious statistical data being compiled over time, besides it knowing the communications being established between all users here.

There will always be those who have their very own hidden agendas in trying to out smart a computing system or network, and to not truly have sincerity in how they choose to communicate effectively (Article to insightful commenting on hubpages).

The funny thing is, there is a large number of people who actually have no idea that online communications, isn't just about clicking the follow button and posting up stuff randomly all the time, and the not so well known fact that to succeed today online, its much more about being human towards one another, establishing yourself in a network, the art of being real, and by providing true communications amongst one another.

Aimless following & reporting a users suspicious activities

So when a hubber gets followed by numerous no name followers, well it does indeed make that person curious to find out what is truly going on. Other then the fact that someone with no other activities besides following has occurred, its pretty simple to see what they have in mind over time. This also means that with no hubs written, and only following going on, who knows what such a person has joined hubpages for, and the possibilities are endless.

Now if they have indeed done something wrong towards the person who received such communications, then by any means I believe that person should report such wrongful activities, but if you report something that hasn't occurred at all in any wrongful manner whether you located it on your account on a hub or what have you, then it can back fire on you after the hubpages staff investigates such issues and finds no fault on the other parties part, but definitely if you do it frequently and continue to make the wrong call time and time again. (Look at the corner of any hubpages authors profile for the flag symbol, use it only if your sure that such a person is a violator of the terms of use here on HP)

I don't suggest to jump the gun on anything here or elsewhere online, make sure you know for sure of such activity others partake in that has indeed worried you, but take note of anything suspicious for sure and take action appropriately, which there are many ways to do so on hubpages. (Those who follow aimlessly be advised that lowering of your hubber score is imminent).

Interesting hub. She does have a few new followers at the very bottom of the list who have zero hubs. I always find that strange too, and I don't reciprocate on a follow like that ever. I agree that collowing should be something you think about, and not be done in hopes of gaining followers.

@xstatic, I will go to check to see what you stated, I didn't go all the way to the bottom of her hub profile. Thanks for reading and for sharing your comment with me, and for that input as well.

Hello CloudExplorer - thank you very much for sharing this information and I am honored that you chose my profile to explain this situation. If you go to my Followers and click on the "Load More" at the bottom a few times you can see all the ones with zero hubs that only joined in the last few weeks/days ago. This is a well written and very informative hub. Voted up.

No problem @Efficient Admin I know how it is, and fellow hubbers need assistance. I figured why not give your question a try and see what I can do to help by answering it there.

I looked at your profile again and noticed what has occurred there, and it may just be some sort of coincidence, I also seen the activity feed on your account profile, and looked into much of the newer hubbers activity, and have detected much of the flase following being done by them.

I think that many people online who interact socially, have no idea what they shouldn't be doing for the most part, but that really isn't any excuse though for not being genuine, or for not reading or doing research to learn about such a networks terms of service.

I hope this sort of activity that's occurring on your account stops, and if it doesn't make sure to contact the hubpages staff. Thanks for the cool comment, and I hope things pan out, and return back to normal for you. Chat with ya whenever I make it to your hubs as well.

Some times it is hard to keep up with all the people you follow. So I better not follow to many more people. This was a very useful hub to me.

I haven't had this kind of issue, but I guess I will keep an eye out for it. Usually, if someone follows me before I follow them, I will click on their home page and see there activity. If it looks like they have been reading and commenting on hubs, then I expect it is well-intentioned. If I see that the only activity is them following a whole string of people in a row--that's when I get suspicious and think it isn't well-intentioned. If they have left no comments on any of my hubs and only followed, with no fan mail or anything? Well, usually that person is the one who just followed 100 people in a row--and they aren't really interested in any of you! At least, that is my opinion. Great hub! I especially liked the video.

What would be gained by following someone you are not interested in. I am not going to follow that person who only wants traffic for profit. In order for me to read and comment on hubs, i expect a visit on my hubs, that's just the way it is. Interesting topic..Well done..

@flashmakeit, yeah its all so tough to manage with not enough time in a day, but once a person decided to schedule in a segment of time for everything and within reasonable limitations, then the process of managing following folks begins to be easier for sure.

Thanks for you comment and for sharing as you do so often Flash.

@mpropp, yeah one thing I despise in some folks is the fact of people being in-genuine or fake, and so once I notice such activity I will not communicate with such folks, but I do warn those who are the worst with it all via email at times about advising them to think about stopping their unfair activities online, and that's all I can do for them.

Thanks for the cool comment and for sharing with me.

Thanks @always exploring, for your comment up above, I know how you feel when it comes to having genuine friends and followers. It is a shame when people choose to do wrong by others here or anywhere for that matter thinking that following loads of people alone will get them anywhere.

I takes caring and sharing to make it all happen today, and all they're doing is ruining their chances to achieve anything in my opinion, and it serves them right.
