How To: Generate Traffic Legitimately To Your Hubs

So you've joined the ranks of fellow Hubbers everywhere in high hopes to either build up a writing portfolio, make some money, or simply write for the sake of writing, and having an audience to read it. Now you're wondering, "how do I get people to my Hubs?" There are some topics going around about purchasing traffic and all that nonsense, and I'm here to tell you just how much of nonsense that is. It is very easy to generate traffic if you strategize just how and where people will see your articles.

First off, let me say that this guide might not get you hundreds of views immediately, but it might in a day or two. These are the things I have done and it has worked just fine for me, in fact I've only been on HubPages for one week, and I'm hoping that by the end of today I will have my 1,000 views accolade, because I am very close. So these tips just might get you some traffic!

To start, you need to choose a topic that either you know a lot about, or can write just as well about. If it's going to be informative, you need to know what you're talking about. Perhaps it's just a general article talking about what peaked your interest for the day. That's just fine, but make sure it is well written or you know enough about it that it will be well written as a result.

After you've completed your hub, you have to make it visible to others outside of HubPages. This is much easier to do than it sounds. If you have a Facebook, start signing in with your Facebook as opposed to signing in with a regular username and password. This way, anytime you finish an article, you can post it directly to your page, and anyone that can pass by your wall on your Facebook page can see the link and click it to go back to your article, and possibly your previous articles as well. Also, you might want to consider signing up for a Twitter account. It's free and harmless and won't clutter anything up, and when you go to your hubs, there is a little icon that says "Tweet", and you can click this to Tweet a link to the article that you were just on. You can do this for all of your articles. Now you have two places outside of HubPages already that plenty of people can find out about your articles!

The next part is a bit harder than the last, and can be tricky if you aren't smart about it. To get more page views on your article, search either on Facebook or the web for places where your articles topic is relevant, and then go to that page and join in on a discussion, then post the link back to your relevant article. WARNING: A lot of websites don't like it if you post links on their discussions to other sites for your benefit, and if you feel like you are breaking the rules at all or aren't being a contributor, DO NOT post your link. Simply move somewhere else where the rules are less strict and you can freely post a link where people will actually go to read and enjoy your articles. Leave the websites alone where people go to talk at that specific spot and the rules keep the discussion in that same spot, those people want conversation on the topic, not advertisements. But like I said, there are plenty of other places to freely post the link where the conversation or discussion is less of either of those two and more of just a place where people comment on a certain topic. That is ok, because you don't necessarily need to be a contributor. Point made simple: Don't fake contribution simply to put your link down, have patience and keep searching for other sites that you don't need to contribute and you can simply comment.

Tip! : You can do the same thing with YouTube videos! If you find a video about your topic, you can post your link in a comment if you take out the http: in the link before you comment. This is a bit sneaky and after a couple times posting comments YouTube will ask for a CAPTCHA to be entered before you can post another one. Sometimes people don't like seeing links advertised but then again it's YouTube and people say some nasty stuff. Just remember to be respectful and don't spam Videos with your link, post one or two on a couple videos then call it finished.

If you use these tips I am certain you will get page views on your articles. Facebook.com is the second largest source for my traffic and like I said, I'm intending to have my 1,000 views by tonight, and I've used only these strategies and been on here for 1 week. Give them a try and see if it works! Good luck and happy hubbing!

Cheers!

This is a useful hub. I never thought of posting on youtube. What does CAPTCHA mean? I don't want to break a rule before I even get there. :-) Thanks for the info!! Voted up and useful.

@sholland: don't worry! CAPTCHA are those little annoying things that pop up and make you type in those random letters that look all funky so they know you're human. it's a way to fish out spammers, but fear not, as long as you do it you'll be just fine! thanks for reading!
