How to Set Away Message On Ebay Email

Introduction

A lot of us use Ebay to auction things we'd like to make money on. Sometimes I'll 'float' an auction while I'm away. That is, I'll post a 7 day auction, then take a trip during the weekend and come back while the auction is in progress.

The only problem with this is if someone has a problem. Maybe a bidder, a recent customer, or perhaps even eBay itself. They'll email your Ebay account and your are not responding because you are not around. This only makes the problem worse.

The best way to avoid this is to set your Ebay away message. This 'out of office' email will automatically respond to customers telling them you are away.

Please keep reading to learn how to set away message on Ebay email.

If you want to learn how to turn off your away message on Ebay, please see my link all the way at the bottom of this article.

Step 1

Log onto Ebay and go to your "Messages" Folder/Tab.

Step 2

Locate  "Change Settings". As of Sept 2010, ebay says this is in the left column. I don't see it there. For me "Change Settings" is on the same plain or level as the message tab, but on the right side of the page.

Click "Change Settings".

Step 3

In the screen that appears, look somewhat near the bottom, in the center of the page.  Under "Out of Office Response" click the radio button next to "Turn On Out of Office Reply"

Step 4

More fields will appear. In the "Start Date" select the first day you will be away from Ebay and in the "End Date" select date you want the out of office away message to end.

Step 5

Enter a personal message or greeting that you want all of the recipients to see in the block below the dates you filled in.

Step 6

Click apply.  Now your away email message is set on your Ebay account.
