How to Keep Your HubPages Followers

The HubPages Scene

As a HubPages writer, you want to keep your followers. You have earned them, so let's work to keep them as followers! Do not take your readers for granted as pressing the unfollow button is as easy as a click of the mouse button.

Keep your HubPages followers by publishing high-quality hubs, responding to the comments on your hubs left by other hubbers and by reading their hubs as well. These are great techniques to keep you in good form in the HubPages community!

Publish Valuable Hubs

A key way to keep your HubPages followers is to publish valuable hubs. Valuable material is current and interesting to the majority of your followers. While all of your connections will not be interested in every hub you produce, they generally are following you because they appreciate your writing style and at least some of the topics on which you write.

Keep the quality high in your hubs to keep followers interested in your work. A quality hub is free of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Be consistent in the quality of the hubs too; ensure that each hub is checked for spelling errors before you press the publish button. While the odd mistake can be overlooked, do your best to avoid glaring errors.

Yes, you will lose HubPages followers if you do not consistently publish quality, valuable hubs. Remember that HubPages is composed of writers! When you take time with your writing, it shows in your hubs; your followers appreciate the time and understand the work that went in to those hubs as they are writers themselves. When you put the effort into making your hubs the best that they can be, your readers are more likely to support you and stay with you as readers.

Respond To Hub Comments

Another way to keep your HubPages followers is to respond to comments left by these people on your hubs. While you may not be able to respond the same day or even the next day after the comment is made, the important point here is that you do respond.

Your followers understand that you are busy and cannot always respond right away to their comments. After all, they are busy writers themselves! When you do respond to a follower's comment, you are showing that person respect and appreciation for taking time to read your hub. While that person is a follower, he or she is not obligated to read and comment on every hub that you publish. Leave a comment in response to the message as your way to say thank-you for reading your hub.

When you do not respond to comments on your hubs, you risk losing those followers. They may wonder whether you have read their comments or even if you appreciate their reads. HubPages is built on interactions of writers and part of that interaction happens on your own hubs. Pay attention to your followers and show them respect by responding to comments that hubbers leave on your hubs; you are more likely to keep your HubPages connections.

Read The Hubs Of Your Followers

You also are more likely to keep your HubPages followers when you read their hubs and leave them comments. Just as you would like your readers to comment on your hubs, you do the same in turn for them.

When you interact with your followers, they are more likely to remember you. Your discussions in the comments section of the hubs create a friendship between you. They are less likely to press the unfollow button when you create a comradery with them. You appreciate one another and thus follow one another on HubPages.

Ensure your comments are respectful in nature. Leaving a rude comment may cause someone to stop following you on HubPages. Remember that rude is not the same as disagreeable; you can disagree with the hubber's points in the comments section but ensure you are respectful in the words you choose to use.

Reading the Hubs of Your Followers Is Important!

Great response Glenn. It takes time to respond to comments as we are all so busy, especially as writers with multiple deadlines. I appreciate all who stop by to read and comment - like you! Have a great night.

I agree that responding to comments shows appreciation. Looking at it from the other end, I don't feel bad if a Hubber does not reply to comments that I leave in their hubs, especially when I see they have thousands of followers. I wouldn't expect it in that case. But as long as we have a manageable amount, it's the right thing to do. In addition to that, I like to refer to a specific item one may have mentioned in their comment. It adds to the importance of the comment they left.

Voted up and useful.

Hi mpropp and welcome to HubPages! You are right that as the number of followers grow it is difficult. Reciprocation of comments is appreciative here even when it takes a week or two to do so. We understand writers are busy people and make time when we can to respond. Thanks!

Christy, thanks for these tips. For some of us, it isn't that hard to keep up with our followers and to read and comment on their hubs, as well as respond to comments on our own. I do wonder sometimes, however, how people with over a 1,000 followers can possibly respond to all their own comments, let alone read their followers hubs? Fortunately, I have no such problem. I appreciate all the tips because I want to hold onto every follower I've got!

These are very valuable tips you have shared Christy! I definitely believe in responding to comments people have left. I feel like that's where I find more ideas to write about as well as building a good relationship with followers. I do try to comment on hubs of people who have left comments as well just as courtesy and also to see what other people are doing in HP. Voted up and useful!

@nenytridiana, you got that right!

@Thelma, I am the same way that I comment on the hubs that have titles that interest me. We can not possibly read all of the hubs given time constraints. Thanks for the votes, comment, and share. You are a great support.

These are great tips Christy. I wish I will know why some of my followers quit following me. I don´t get mad about it. I just want to know why so I might be able to deal with it. I always want to have an honest comment from my readers. May it be bad or good. I keep on commenting and reading the hubs of my followers but I don´t comment to those topic which I´m not interested. I do as well answer every comments on my hubs. Thanks for sharing this hub. Voted up and useful. SHARED.

@mary615, I also find it hard to read every work from each of my followers. We do our best and that is to be expected. Thanks for taking time to comment today.

I always look forward to comments on my Hubs, and I do respond. It's awfully hard to read my follower's works; there is not enough time in a day. I do my best.

Hi Mellonyy, thanks for the positivity! I agree that it is hard as the number grows; we can't read every hub of every follower. That's understandable and we reciprocate as best we can :)

Great hub, Christy! I firmly believe that if a writer has nothing good to write about, they are much better off missing a few days, even a week or more, than to publish sub-par posts. An audience will wait for quality, but they will flock off for crap!

This is really interesting and useful. Followers are really important, and more important is to keep them. Yes publishing valuable Hubs, responding to the comments and reading the Hubs of the followers are really important factors to be considered to keep the followers. Thanks for sharing and voted up !

Christy, This is a very useful article about followers and how to keep them. Yes, it is very important to read your followers hubs, comment on them, and answer their comments. Since I have been doing this, I have increased my hub score and slowly gotten more impressions, especially when my followers have shared my hubs. Voted up and sharing.
