How to Stay Motivated To Write Hubs on HubPages

Updated on January 4, 2013

Let's Write, Right now!

Ah, motivation.

While it can be strong some days, motivation likely is not at a high level every day. Writing for HubPages (HP) is no exception.

You may have written five hubs last week, but this week you can't seem to get yourself writing again. Here are ways to stay motivated to keep publishing at the website.

The Puzzle: Motivation

Do You Find It Difficult To Stay Motivated At HubPages?

Organize a Schedule

A great way to stay motivated is to set goals for you for writing at HubPages.

Decide how many hubs you want to publish in a typical week. Be realistic, given your other obligations such as family, another job, and household tasks. Get out a calendar, whether electronic or paper form, and enter the task to write a hub into specific days.

By writing or typing the "write a hub" task into your calendar, you are making a commitment to that task. You are more likely to keep yourself accountable to publishing a hub that day. If you also create a "To Do" list each day, consult your calendar when you compose the list so that you add your writing task to it.

Treat the writing goal for the day like an appointment. Just as you would not cancel a doctor's appointment, you will also not opt out of writing a hub on a particular day.

Get To the Finish Line

Reward Yourself

Another great way to stay motivated is to give yourself rewards when you meet your weekly hubbing goals.

If you plan on your calendar to publish twice a week, and you complete the goal, reward yourself. Have the reward planned out prior to the week so that you have something to work towards as you write.

Rewards do not have to cost a lot of money, or any money at all. Here are examples:

  • Plan to watch one of your favorite movies at home with your partner
  • Buy that chocolate bar that you have been craving
  • Go shopping for those curtains you have been meaning to buy for the bedroom

When you associate meeting the goal with a desired reward, you will be motivated to write!

Interact With Hubbers

Another way to stay motivated at HP is to interact with fellow hubbers. While you alone ultimately press the publish button, the community at the website is very supportive and helpful in your writing journey.

Read hubs of other writers and you may find that an idea sparks your interest and you are off to write about a related topic. Perhaps the hubber has not answered a question you thought needed to be addressed. Answer the question in a new hub.

Participate in the Q&A and Forum Sections of the website as well. You may find that your motivation increases as you begin to type about the world around you in these online sections.

Read Success Stories

Talk about a big motivator! Read the success stories here at HubPages; a few good ones are listed at the side.

As well, you can simply search this website by "success stories" and find pages of hubs full of inspirational stories. You may just finish the read raring to write your next hub!

Another method is to look back at your own successes at HubPages. Take time to reflect on your own writing journey. Look at your HP profile. How many accolades have you accumulated and what do they represent? Have you commented on a certain number of hubs or reached a certain number of page views?

Be proud of your accomplishments, without comparing them to successes of other hubbers. You are on your own journey and likely have different goals and time frames. You can motivate your way to your next hub by looking at what you have achieved so far at the website and looking ahead to your writing goals! Let's get you one hub closer to that goal!

Your Health

Staying healthy is very important for a writer, whether you are a full-time freelance writer or write in your spare time. When you keep your mind and body at optimal levels, you are likely able to produce higher quality hubs than when you are run-down emotionally and physically.

Take breaks from your writing to clear your mind and stretch your body from its stagnant position in from of the computer. Try to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Remember that if you stop writing at HubPages because you are sick, your daily earnings will rapidly decline. Keep yourself healthy!

Motivation in a Note

Stay Motivated

Staying motivated to write hubs is not easy and you will likely face obstacles, both within and outside of your workspace. You may need to experiment with the above methods to see which ones work best for you. Perhaps a combination are useful, or only one fits your needs. The particular method depends on the writer, and that writer is you! Now let's get you writing another hub, and I'll be over soon to take a read!
