Writing Online - How to get Followers and Comments

Updated on February 5, 2013

I have read so many questions on how to get more fans and comments and even get emails about it, but this is the first one that has been posted on my Profile, requesting an answer.

Only recently, Hubpages changed Fans to Followers but it is similar in meaning. So without much further Ado, some tips on getting more fans/followers and comments are:

a) Taking an interest in other people’s Hubs or Articles. After reading, leave comments. Maybe, how you felt about it or something you want to share relating to it. In most Cases, the author will return the compliment by visiting your profile and reading your articles. They might even decide to Fan you if they like your Hubs.

*

b) Visit Forums – Forums is an interactive place on Hubpages. Click Here – Forums. I put the link there because when I joined HP, it took me a couple of weeks to know that a place called Forums existed. It’s a very interesting place where Hubbers interact and you will start to get a feel of people. Well, their personalities. As people get to know you, they would check out your profile and Hubs.

*

c) Write Good Content/Interesting Hubs – This could draw interest to your Hubs and people might fan you, so that when you publish again, they would be notified via email and they can check out your new Hub.

*

d) Post questions in the Q & A Session of Hubpages and if you don't want to, answer any of the questions there. I assure you, that you will find a question you can relate to. You can answer by just writing a few lines or by creating a Hub. I make a habit of checking out profiles and reading Hubs of people who take time to answer any questions I post there. I'm sure there are others who do the same.

*

e) If you like people fan them too. (sometimes, just reading someone’s profile is inspiring). You could fan them. I can’t guarantee they’ll fan you back but the chances are very likely. However, avoid Fanning sprees – I’ll cover this later.

So the key is – Interaction.

One excited Fan coming your way.....

Try to avoid:

  • Fanning someone and requesting them to fan you back.
  • Fanning sprees – Fanning one Hubber per minute. So, in a space of 15 minutes, you've fanned approx 15 - 20 Hubbers in a row, non-stop. (Some people don’t realise that it shows on their Hubtivity).

I'm not saying DON'T, but this has been discussed in Forums and it isn't appealing.

Finally……

As your fan base grows, you would have to read more Hubs in a day. When you publish Hubs, your fans take time to read them and comment and it’s nice if you return the compliment when they also publish Hubs. This brings me to the next point.

Click on Edit Profile and ensure on Email me when Authors I’m following publish - You have it selected as Daily Digest or Immediately. (See mine below)

I would appreciate other people’s tips on getting fans and comments, to share with readers. Meanwhile, may I use this opportunity to thank all my lovely Fans and send them lots of Hublove. Thank you.

Update...

P/s - I would like to add these helpful comments posted by Hubbers in response to the Hub. Thanks Mike and Dohn.

“If I were to add anything, I would suggest a response to a comment left on your hubs, even if it is just to say thanks for reading. There are some folks who will leave a comment and never return, of course, but others do return to see if their remarks were noticed, and how the writer responded to them”. Mike Lickteig

“I would add however, that "Fanning Sprees" also hurts your hubber score as well. One other thing that I would make mention of is to write good quality content. I sometimes see hubs that look more like blogs, like 250-300 word variety.” Dohn121
