Pilgrim Father De Greek flung open the door and rushed into his home looking for Pilgrim Mother Zsuzsy Bee. "Governor Maddie Ruud has called a meeting. All are to attend."

Dropping the spoon in her hand, Zsuzsy called out to the children, and they all rushed out the door to gather with their friends and neighbors at the Meeting Room.

All of the women and children huddled together in a corner busily talking, while the men gathered up front, their comments being heard round the room "What do you think this is all about.?", "I hope nothing else has happened.", "I heard that Pilgrim Father George was unable to work the harvest this morning."

Governor Maddie Rudd entered the room hold her hands up for silence. "Everyone please have a seat."

The men silently found their seats up front, the women behind them while the children all selltled on the floor.

Governor Maddie: "I wanted to let everyone know what a successful harvest we had this year. There is enough corn, fruits, and vegetables to get us all through the winter."

A happy rumbling filled the room.

Governor Maddie once more raised her hands for silence. "We would not have this wonderful bounty if it had not be for our friends Squanto and the Wampanogue Indians. I think we need to have a havest feast, a day of giving thanks, and include our friends who taught us how to live in this new land. I need 4 volunteers to go out hunting for wild fowl and venison."

Pilgrim Father De Greek stood up, "I'll volunteer and I would like to volunteer Pilgrim Mother Zsuzsy Bee, everyone knows she the best shot here."

Everyone agreed and decided to send Pilgrim Mother Shirley Anderson and Pilgrim Father waynet along since they were they next best at hunting. Now it was very unususal to send women out to hunt but this particular was very progressive, they felt you should use the best man, or woman for the job. After all, they had a woman for their governor, definately unheard of in those days.

The meeting progresses naming Pilgrim Mother RedElf and Pilgrim Mother Enelle Lamb as the catchers of cod, clams and eels. Pilgrim Mother Ripplemaker and Pilgrim Mother Princessa were chosen to gather the herbs to season the food. While Pilgrim Mother Patty English and Pilgrim Mother KoffeeKlatch Gals were assigned the enormous task of preparing the food, with the help of the rest of the Hub Team.

"This is a perfect job for us." purred RedElf.

"I know," Enelle Lamb meowed back. "I just hope we catch more than we eat."

RedElf: "We must make this our most bountiful catch."

Enelle Lamb: "If we don't they will never let us do this again."

The splash of a fish drew their attention and they focused on catching it and its friends.

A Picking We Will Go

Wandering though the woods keeping a sharp eye out herbs to use to flavor the Giving Thanks dinner Pilgrim Mother Ripplemaker and Pilgrim Mother Princessa talked quietly about the upcoming feast.

Ripplemaker:  "We must find the best, most flavorful herbs for this wonderful feast."

Princessa:  "We always do, that's why they sent us out to gather.  I can't wait, it will be so much fun."

Ripplemaker:  "I'm going to wear my green dress what will you wear?"

Princessa:  "Well, you know I only have two dresses, a black and a gray, I guess I'll wear my gray, it has a fuller skirt and looks so much better on me than this old thing."

Ripplemaker:  "Princessa, look, we've hit the mother load."

Excitedly gathering their conversation drifted off.

Food, Food and More Food

Pilgrim Mother KoffeKlatch Gals:"Oh dear, oh dear, we have so much to do and so little time."

Pilgrim Mother Patty English:  "Calm down gal.  We have plenty of time and besides we have the help of all of the HubPages Team.  You know how great they are."

KoffeeKlatch Gals:  "I know, I know.  But, there's so much to do."

Patty English:  "It will all get done.  First thing we need to do is make a list."

Sitting down at the tabel the Gal and Patty put their heads together to make out two lists:  One included the other hubbers who would be helping, and the other included the food they would be serving.

The Beginning of the Preparation

The group of hunters returned at the end of the day weary but satisfied that they had brought back a bounty of fowl fit to grace the table of the first Giving Thanks Feast.

Dropping a large pile of wild duck on the table De Greek announced, "There are enough here to satify even the hungriest of man.

Coming up behind him Zsuzsy Bee added, "Or woman. Here's my contribution. I got every goose who crossed my path. Boy am I tired."

"Make way, heavy load coming through." Through the door came Shirley Anderson and waynet loaded down by a mountain of wild turkey. "I think we met our quota." cried out Shirley

*************************

RedElf and Enelle Lamb hurried in, or tried to, the bags they were dragging were filled to the brim with fish, eels and clams.

RedElf: "What a day. I think we caught every fish in the stream."

Enelle Lamb: "Not only that, look at how many eel and clams we got. I swear they all but jumped into the bag."

"And we didn't even eat any.", they both cried out in unison.

Everyone agreed thaty had reason to be proud of themselves.

************************************

Ripplemaker and Princessa followed close behind their aprons filled with fragrent herbs.

Ripplemaker: "Look at all we have found. There's enough here for the feast and then some."

Princessa: "We found a new place, you wouldn't believe how many different herbs there were in one spot."

Everyone agreed, the fragrence of these herbs were tantalizing.

*****************************

Patty Inglish: "Ok guys, you all did a great job. Now please get busy and clean your fowl, fish, eels and clams so Gal and I can start cooking them."

KoffeKlatch Gals: " Ripplemaker and Princessa could you please prepare your herbs, we're just about ready to use them.

Everyone scurried around each with their own tasks. They good naturedly chatted and kidded back and forth as they prepared their feast for that all important first Giving Thanks Feast. As they busied themselves Indians appeared at their door bearing 5 deer. The Hub Team happily added them to their bounty of food to prepare.

The Gathering For The Giving Thanks Feast

Is was a beautiful autumn day. The wind was slightly chilled, the air smelled fesh and clean, and nature was coorperating by coloring its vegetation with bright gold, rush and copper colors. Everywhere you looked there was a Pilgrim Mother or Father rushing around excitibly adding the finishing touches to their harvest Giving Thanks Feast.

The tables were so loaded you could almost hear them groaning under the weight of food. Each table held a bounty of vegetables including corn, boiled pumpkin, peas, beans and squash. Along side of these colorful fragrent vegetables was mound of nuts, dried fruits and plums. Large mounds of clams, eels and fish were scattered throughout. While the wild turkeys, geese and ducks were placed deoratively on the tables surrounding the roasted venison that the Indians were kind enough to provide.

The Pilgrims were dressed in their Sunday best in a variety of colors; blue, gray, green and black. The Indians approached in their best outfits of deer skin and fur. The children, both Pilgrim and Indian, kept trying to steal a little taste. Everyone could hardly wait for the feast to begin.

Governor Maddie Ruud: "I would like to thank everyone for gathering here today for this our Giving Thanks Feast. We all have so many things to be thankful for. When we came here we numbered over one hundred, now we are fifty. If it were not for Squanto and his Indians we would not be here. We thank them for all of their help. And thank you everyone for all of your hard work. Together we will make it. Each of us should give thanks for all that we have."

Everyone agreed that they were thankful for their families, friends, neighbors, fresh air, good weather, the ability to work, health, and so many more things that they were too numerous to list.  Another thing they all agreed on, something they wanted to say, was this:

"Thank You HubNuggets Wannabes and Good Luck."

There is so much to be thankful for
There is so much to be thankful for

I'm thankful for...

I am thankful for skies of blue
Etched by soft clouds of white
The crispness of the morning dew
Beneath the dawn’s first light
The beauty found upon the shore
Bathed by the ocean’s foam
And seabirds that take flight and soar
Because they’re free to roam.

The stillness of the autumn wind
Across the leaves’ display
The warm-wishes we often send
To brighten someone’s day
The dreams that suddenly appear
Though lost, not long ago
And moments spent with those held dear
As our memories grow.

I am thankful for many things
My life has been quite blessed
Therefore, I hope this season brings
Your lives the very best
Of all the gifts I have declared
Not one could ever be
As treasured as the time we’ve shared
Or the joy you’ve brought to me.

...has anyone looked over here yet, duck, geese and turkey feathers everywhere. Who is going to clean up this mess? ...feathers in my hair, in my clothes... pluck, pluck, pluck... another dozen or so birds to "dress" for dinner ("undress" would be more accurate, I would say) don't we want these birds to BE dinner not come to dinner... pluck, pluck, pluck...

Great hub Gal. Congrats to all you hubnuggeteers on your nominations, remember to promote and to vote.

I read and voted, although it was a tough to just pick one in each category.

I'm thankful for the grocery stores that carry 'Butterballs'

I'm thankful not having to hunt down my own birds for my dinner

I'm thankful for not having to pluck my dinner

I'm thankful for my many friends here on the Hubnugget team and Hubpages...

Happy Thanksgiving

Dave Digger profile image

I am honoured and delighted by my nomination as a hubnugget.

I have to confess to being slightly embarrassed, too! I may have won the nomination under a false flag.

Under another name I have been a Hubber for nearly a year, and have 50+ hubs up. They are intellectual and literary and educational.

Dave Digger was created for crass commercialism "Five best trowels", "seven good lawnmowers" etc. I put up the first two hubs about the Victorian mansion and my garden to establish my credibility in these areas, and will soon move on to creating the Amazon linked selling hubs.

Am I disqualified?

Should we have another competition to guess who I really am?
