TIps and Tricks to Keeping Your Hubber Score High

Do You have bouts of indigestion about your Hubber score?

Do you wake up in the middle of the night with awful bouts of indigestion brought on by dreaming of your Hubber score going up and down?

Does your Hubber score erratically rise and fall like the numbers on the board at the New York Stock Exchange on a bad day?

Do you spend most of your time on Hubpages wondering what causes the dang score to fluctuate all the time?

So what is Hubber score?

Hubber score is our individual author score that Hubpages gives us. There are certain actions we can take as authors that will cause our Hubber score to grow and flourish on Hubpages, and there are also adverse actions which will cause our Hubber score to bob up and down and drop off into oblivion.

Hubpages, is full of helpful and useful information. Hopefully, I can share a few gems with you that can make your Hubpage journey more enjoyable.

A Few Simple Dos and Don't

Here are some dos and don'ts that I have learned from personal experience on Hupages. Hopeful, these practical tips that will keep you from slowly killing your own personal Hubscore.

  • Do read other Hubbers work before you follow them.
  • Don't just follow Hubbers to get him or her to follow you back. If you do a mass follow this will cause your Hubber score to drop like a rock, Believe me If you want to anger the spam filters on Hubpages do a mass follow!
  • Don't share links to your Hubs in the comments section of the Hubs you are reading. This will cause the spam filters to go into action, and your Hubscore will slowly tumble.
  • Do feel free to share helpful links in your Hubs, and when answering questions from other Hubbers. I often will help new Hubbers by answering their questions and share the Hubpages Learning Center link with them.
  • Do write helpful and useful Hubs. Try to keep your Hub length around 600 to 1000 words, and fill the pages up with quality information on the things you love! As your traffic increases, your Hubber score will also increase.
  • Do use the Hub Hopping tool on Hubpages. The Hub Hopping tool will introduce you to authors on the site, and this action will cause your Hubber score to grow!
  • Do read your followers new Hubs, and do leave helpful and honest feedback on their Hubs. This will also keep your Hubber score high.

The Bottom Line on Hubber Indigestion

I hope these hints help you get your Hubber score indigestion under control.

Also, don't worry about your Hubber score so much! Your score will improve with time as you learn from others who have been down the same road on Hubpages!

Seasoned Hubber feel free to leave your advice on Hubber score in the comments section below.

The Hub Hopping tool is really neat! I love this tool! I have seen my Hub score go up just by Hup hopping for a half hour or so! It is a great way to meet new authors on the site too.

A well presented hub. Another point to consider is how many hubs you publish. If you stop publishing hubs for a long period of time (a few months) your score will decline.

More important, don't lose sleep over your hub score. As long as you are over 75 you are fine. Most important, your list of 'do's and don'ts.'

@Billybuc Thank you for stopping by. I do know the feeling about wanting to know everything about the site as soon as possible. I felt the same way when I joined Hubpages a year ago. Great tips.

I used to worry about my Hubscore, but got bored of it after a while lol. I try to keep it high, but occasionally it will drop when I suddenly get lots of readers, or put in unusual levels of effort (occasional bursts) ... very odd.

I will try your tips and see if they make a difference.

Thanks for SHARING.

This is a great hub for newbies and seasoned hubbers alike! I like that you remind us not to worry about the score so much. It's going to fluctuate in small increments all the time, no matter what we do. :)

hazelwood4 profile image

hazelwood4 4 years ago from Owensboro, Kentucky Author

@Brett.Tesol I think the biggest part of having a high Hubber score is ignoring it. I think if we practice good habits on Hubpages, and publish the best Hubs to our ability this will all come with time. Have a great day!:)

hazelwood4 profile image

hazelwood4 4 years ago from Owensboro, Kentucky Author

@ThePracticalMommy Thank you so much for stopping by. Yes, the Hub score and Hubber score both fluctuate all the time. The best thing we can do is practice good Hubbing habits, and not worry about it as much!

Well done. I found you since you were visiting that question another Hubber asked about why her score had dropped. Would you believe it?... she's gone. She didn't take my advice or understand any of the suggestions you mentioned here and she drove her score all the way down to zero.

Anyway, I voted this up and useful. Although I can't understand why two people thought it was funny. I think some people are not getting it.

hazelwood4 profile image

hazelwood4 4 years ago from Owensboro, Kentucky Author

@Glen Stok Thank you for sharing your insight into understanding Hubber score. I was reading another Hub tonight about Hubber score that was very interesting too. Another Hubber commented that his score fell due to him posting the same piece of fanmail for each Hubber he was following. He did learn from his mistakes, and now his Hubber score is recovering. The best way for us to learn is from each others mistakes and experiences. @Glenn I have heard this quote many times in life, "You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink." Hopefully, other new Hubbers will read all of this valuable information.

Nice hub. Simple do's and don'ts are often the most basic things that the best of us can sometimes overlook. You are right - You shouldn't be worried too much about your hub score if you are doing all the right things here at HubPages and more importantly, staying away from all the wrong ones!

I don't spend much time thinking about my hubber score anymore. The time is better spent writing, or reading other hubs and commenting on them. The more I do that, the high my score should go, and you have just confirmed that.

I'm still trying to work-out how the score works.

hazelwood4 profile image

hazelwood4 4 years ago from Owensboro, Kentucky Author

Hi Modern-stories, I believe it is a mixture of things here on Hubpages. First of all, try to do some Hubhopping. This will allow you to meet new authors, and vote up or down content. Also, another thing that has helped me, setup automatic email notifications of the Hubbers that you follow. Vote up or down their content, and add your own spice to the comment section if you enjoy the Hub. Hope all these helpful hints help you too. The other thing the longer you are on the site, and by publishing great content these type of scores will all grow naturally.

wwolfs 4 years ago

Nice hub. I haven't thought too much about the hubscore dropping but I am glad to hear that it isn't anything to lose any sleep over. You are right, there is plenty of good and useful information shared by others here to help one flourish and grow. You have provided many good tips and I didn't know about the Hubhopping tool. Thank you for sharing!

These scores fluctuate over time, so it's nothing to worry about if you go up or down. I've discovered though, that the score has very little to do with what you earn. Voting this Up and Useful. Thanks for SHARING.

I worried about my hub score as well, when I first started. I think at that time, it is useful to see what types of actions are recommended and which ones are not. Unfortunately, too many people try to game the system to get a higher score, and wind up hurting themselves instead. The key in following your tips is to write quality hubs and let the hub score naturally. If you do what is the right thing to do, you will succeed no matter what your hub score is doing.

Arlene V. Poma 4 years ago

I don't care about my Hubber score, and I certainly don't lose sleep over it. On this site, people get anal over nothing. And when they aren't crying about their Hubber score, they are whining about their other stats and not making enough money. That Hubber score means NOTHING when it comes to making money. Yet, people think a Hubber score is something magical and need to keep it high. Or they get upset. I've made more money with my score in the low-80s than I did in the mid-90s. Not gonna argue with that or question in. It is what it is.

I don't really worry about my hubber score, but I wonder why I had a certain hubber score before I published a hub, then as soon as it was published, my score dropped 2 or more points. Any ideas on that? I'm still new so I'm still learning.

Great information for those that worry about their hubber score. I don't, really. I write from my heart and I read a lot of other hubbers work because I think there are some amazing writers here and, I learn a lot from fellow hubbers. Now, I use to worry about it but never could understand the logic so I stopped. What is most important to me is developing a following because I write good hubs. I'm still learning though. lol

I appreciate hubs like this one that help me put it all in perspective. Thanks for offering some real explanation for what affects a score.

mizjo profile image

Hi, Mike, great and true tips. I try to read as many hubs as I can, leave intelligent (I hope) comments, then check out some of the other commenters' hubs. If they look interesting or helpful, I read them and comment as well. I think this activity, as well as the others you recommended, help with your score.

And of course, keep writing and publishing. I'm still learning and using a lot of my time reading HP, Squidoo and watching help-videos. When I'm ready, I'll ramp up my output to try to make some money.
