Hubpages Etiquette You Don’t Have To Swim With The Sharks

Introduction:

When I first started writing, I felt like a fish out of water. I wrote one article during that first year, due to life demanding change, I could not continue to write for awhile.

I eventually returned, and received a warm welcome email from the Hubpages welcome wagon encouraging me to keep writing. I received tips on how to improve my articles.

The hubpages staff promotes a warm granny welcome with tons of encouraging words, and then they send you off to boot camp.

This article is about my experience as a newbie on the HubPages.

Featured Hubs, the Quality Assessment Process, and Editor's Choice Hubs

I appreciated this Hub process. The Hubpages does not throw their writers into a sea of sharks. The staff offers writers the outlet to sharpen your writing skills. I feel that this procedure showcases proper etiquette on behalf of the Hubpages staff.

The following Information provides some helpful resources available to hub writers.

"The Quality Assessment Process determines which of these Hubs end up being showcased on Hubs and Topic Pages and made available to search engines. These Hubs are known as Featured Hubs.

Our Editor's Choice Hubsare high-quality Hubs that are chosen by HubPages Editors to be shown on the HubPages.com domain and given additional HubPages promotion."

How the Quality Assessment Process Works

"The Quality Assessment Process incorporates several factors, including:

  • Ratings of a Hub’s quality as determined by people using the Hub Hopper
  • Ratings of a Hub’s quality as determined by automated metrics
  • Analysis of the how engaged readers are with a Hub over an extended period of time

As Hubs mature, are edited, and are expanded upon, they are reviewed again by the Quality Assessment Process. This means that any Hub may eventually become Featured, and vice-versa."

The Golden Rule"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

The Hubpages extends kindness towards their writers. In return one should lead by example. The Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". The Hubpages provides the same etiquette advice that I would extend to my own children in hopes that one day they will become successfully productive in society.

The Following Etiquette Information:

Forum Etiquette

  1. Kindness is king. Let the principle of kindness guide your words and you'll rarely go wrong. Remember that we're all Hubbers, and we're on the same team.
  2. Be positive. Criticism and honest feedback are great ways to help others improve, but don't focus on another Hubber's faults or be unnecessarily harsh.
  3. Disagree with respect. Naturally, there will be differences of opinion in the Forums. Keep your disagreements civil and on topic.
  4. Follow the Forum Rules. Respecting the Forum Dos and Don'ts helps keep things running smoothly.

Not All Writers Are The Same, But Kindness Is Universal

Introverted writer: Are writers who prefer to keep to themselves. Response from anyone outside of their own thoughts may startle them. At times I would consider myself to be an introverted writer.

Social Butterfly Writer: A social Butterfly Writer enjoys conversation and forums, and they have many followers. Every now and then I dabble in the forums.

Observation Writer. An Observation Writer prefers to stand on the sidelines making sure nobody gets hurt. I notice that the observer type writer is the kind of informant that will report disrespectful acts of carelessness to the Hupages Police.

The Hupages Community:

I've met many nice and encouraging people in the Hub community. I have also read many great and insightful articles. The Hub Community offers a little taste of everything. I'd compare the Hubpages to an all you can eat buffet. The wealth of useful information and tasty articles provides an endless bite of yummy variety.

I am most impressed with the fact that you don't have to swim with the sharks. Everyone marches to the beat of their own drum.

The Hubpages allows you to be the kind of writer that you desire to be. The world is made up of different aspects and ideas.

Providing a place where writers can release their views in a thoughtful manner is a golden opportunity.

I like the comment about writing at our own pace; it's essential to me that I don't feel pressurised into regular hubs per week or per month.

I've been here for nearly 5 years now and have made lots of friends. I've also honed my skills so have much more confidence in my writing.

This is a helpful hub, setting out the basic etiquette which, let's face it, refers to life in general. I like to leave supportive and helpful comments when I read others' hubs.

Thanks for visiting my hub on winter memories.

Ann

Your hub is well written and actually would be a good advertisement for HubPages. You clearly expressed the feelings of the community. And I like how you came up with the different descriptions of various hubbers.

You're absolutely right that newbies can feel comfortable here since most everyone is willing to help his or her fellow writers. HubPages is a great community of writers with a wonderful staff that focuses on success for all involved.

Hi Glenn! Thanks for stopping by! I will say that the Hubpages is a helpful outlet for writers and authors. I had to step away to finish an upcoming project, which has taken up a lot of time. However during my down time I learned wealth of information through other Hubb writers and through the structure provided by the HubPages which is helpful in the writing industry. I am glad that you found this Hub to be helpful! Thank you!
