Has Hubpages evolved into a Social Network and is Video Chat next

The possibilities are endless

Anything is possible, I've written a hub about making much more effective communications on hubpages and beyond, and several how to hubs & tutorials to help those who have no idea how to form video communications, or use such technology as a webcam. Meeting people digitally is not difficult, but takes a bit of knowledge of the right tools to make meeting one another possible, but I do know for sure that some people will opt out of doing so, to maintain their privacy, and to keep their real identity safe from potential intrusion.

Privacy issues

Not everyone wants their true identity discovered by 1000's or even 1,000,000's of strangers online, and you can't blame them either. Now there are some folks who don't hide behind their computers though, and been making efforts on networks like Google+ for achieving much more visibility, which helps them to leverage things for making better communications via the web today.

I think if video chat was made effective here on hubpages though, it could potentially pose a threat to the amount of time being spent hubbing in all other areas of hubpages, as it already takes huge amounts of time to write effectively, to read hubs, participate in forums, ask and answer questions accurately, and all the other many facets as well as communicative aspects of this powerful writers community.

Hubpages web developers are wise

I think this is a reality that the web developers of hubpages must have thought about for sure in the past, and since time factors are a huge element here on the web, video chat being built into hubpages to help followers communicate could also become an addictive issue, and mainly because chatting has already been proven to be super addictive.

Chatters tend to lose sight of what they're doing at times, and on many chat programs, especially peer to peer chatting networks with group chat, as well as video chat software online. I believe if the owners of hubpages wanted such a thing to exist it would have happened here a long time, but like I mentioned the time of use conflict poses a threat to other hubpages activities, that all do make a huge difference in how hubbing is effective for us writers or not.

I also wrote another hub about cool ideas to make for some respectable changes like using Google Plus hangouts, as an official meeting place to form hubpages communications between users looking to meet up digitally, and to be able to visually collaborate efforts. You just never know what the makers of hubpages may actually have up their digital sleeves, and if they're going to open up to any suggestions, or cool ideas they haven't yet enacted upon or thought of.

Paltalk, Yahoo Messenger, Skype

These chat client names above are some of the more familiar ones that many people have grown accustomed to using, and addicted to over time, and mainly Paltalk, where many members simply hook up their webcam's, and some of them even go to bed with it still on, I've seen it in many Video Chat rooms that are webcam capable.

Who knows?

The digital skies the limit when it comes to online applications of certain types of networking web designs, and tooling implementation for website owners today. Some websites have issues with loading speeds when it comes to having video communications, and so if a video chat client was to be added to hubpages some day, the web developers here would definitely have to account for such a potential loading issue of network web traffic, and server loading.

We will all surely see in the near future, but I do feel that hubpages would be better off the way it functions today, rather then having such distractions as video chat communications built into it.

Mike my friend, I simply cannot add more to my plate. Video chatting? I'll leave that for those who have much more time than I have. I'm already amazed by the amount of time many Hubbers spend on the Facebook clubs. How do they do it?

Well, anyway, interesting hub and I'm sure there will be many who will jump on this with both feet if it should become a reality on HP.

Great job as always buddy!

Interesting concept! There are so many other options for video chatting that it isn't really needed here but maybe the option should be offered for those that are interested. At the moment I'm having fun just reading and writing here.

I agree that "video chatting" is very addictive and as far as HP, I thought it is for writers (you know, those who desire to just write) not a social media, as we can go elsewhere for that type of thing. I know you are on the HP staff, so you are privy to all of what is for the future of HP, but if this video chatting is desired, then I think the powers at be should just create a whole new, separate outlet other than here on HP, as I hope this remains a place for writers to write, not really to chat. I believe that is why almost 99% of those on HP are on HP to simply write. Interesting hub, but I am with billybuc, no time for all that chatting. If someone what's to chat and see the person face-to-face, then why don't they just use Skype? Although, I know leaving comments is a form of chatting, but it is still through writing. These are just my thoughts. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Mike, you present some intriguing & thorough thoughts on the subject. I believe it's presented as a possibility, rather than a probability - at least, I'd hope so! I love the written communication that 'goes with' our supposed main reason for being here, simply to write hubs and critique each other's hubs. It's delightful to also find other, personal connections. It's nice to be able to include visual and multi-media accessories to our writing, as have developed here. But honestly, I think turning it into yet another real-time-chatty-visual offering - or even the option of that - is counterproductive at best and totally obscuring the reason-for-being of Hubpages!

When I stumbled into HP over 2 years ago, I was amazed and delighted to find what it IS - so unique among all the other hangouts. There was - and still is - a standard & level of interrelating here which is not to be found any other place of which I'm aware.

I 'ditto' the comments that have preceded mine, both about the idea of video chat for HP and about your excellent contributions in stimulating all our thought and sharing your expertise! Bravo!

Mike -

I'm on your side. Video chatting is not in my future (hopefully) here on Hubpages. Although I can see (by the videos provided) it is indeed the way of the future, I'm not in favor of it in the least! Another fantastic hub by a fantastic hubber! Great Job!

I think of hubpages as a writing community, not a social network. As such, I do not believe there is a place for video chatting - there are social networks for that.

@billybuc, thanks man, yeah I feel ya on the whole not having enough time thing.

It seems like the entire day gets consumed super quick with all the networking activities we do, hubbing, and so much more, lets not even get into the whole hub writing factors lol.

It truly is overwhelming already, and I'm sure we both are super hubbing full time today, and there's still not enough time Bill, I wholeheartedly agree with you.

@healthylife2, yeah man it is fun to simply read and write hubs, as well as all the other optional hubbing activities we already have that are all very time consuming already, I'm just not sure if hubpages would go for such a change as video chat, or any type of chatting communications here.

Thank you @Faith Reaper, being on hubpages as a writer alone is very time consuming, and so I figured why not answer this question someone asked in the Q&A area, to try my best at telling what I think would happen if chat or video chat was to arrive here, and I also have no time to do any chatting .

@Deborah Brooks, thanks Debbie for the cool comment once again, I appreciate you helping pay it forward for me here, and giving my hub here some love.

@Nellieanna, this hub was an end result of me trying my darnedest to answer a cool question on that infamous Q&A area, and so I guess that cool hubber who asked it deserves the credit for the idea of the titling and all. I actually was addicted to chatting on the web more then once, and so I'm so glad that I found hubpages, because at least I can now get paid for all of my ramblings online, LOL.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me, and for being so kind to pay me a visit once again, that was truly cool of you to do.

Yes, just writing is very time consuming, especially for those of us who are not retired, etc., and as for me I have that two hour commute, but I am looking forward to retiring, so that I am able to write more one day. Thanks for the further clarification as to the video chat, and I see what you are saying now --- that as part of the Q & A area. I loved your video hubs you have published, and those who make a video of themselves cooking or like billybuc does. You are a visionary and always thinking of what may or may not be in the future to come. God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper

@Phil Plasma, thank you for all the help you provided for me in my email, that was very nice of you to have done for me.

I had just published it, and I never proofread any of my hubs until I finish publishing it so I can weed out all the potential errors in it all, with a intensive eye, so thanks again, and also for you awesome comment, as well as sharing with me.

@Faith Reaper, that's why I love writing for hubpages, because its such challenge to me, and I've always been a sucker for a good challenge.

Thanks Faith for checking it out, and for providing your insight here, I do appreciate your support here, chat with you soon, and I'll make it to your hubs soon as well.

Voted up and interesting. Mike I agree. Let's leave well enough alone. Can't imagine chatting hours on end when I already have so little time for everything I do now. Passing this on to my followers.

Thanks Rasma, yup I think hubpages is doing so much already for us, why try to add even more stuff, that could potentially make it even more time consuming, oh and thanks for sharing it.

I agree with you Mike, adding video chat on hubpages , will lead to a big distraction and cut into our already limited time. As it is we find time is short to really perform at the optimum when we have so many thing to do in the hubpages community.

Voting this up, useful and interesting. Sharing this.

@rajan jolly, yeah man I answered someones cool question with this hub and so nope I don't think hubpages will ever implement videochat, it just wouldn'r be wise.

Thanks bro for showing up and giving my hub here a good read, as well as for sharing with me your thoughts, and also for sharing it as well. Cool stuff Rajan.
