Hubpages Review: Is Hubpages Worth It?

It has been two years since I walked along the hallways of HubPages. And as I take a trip down memory lane I can’t help but smile because HubPages has become my home of sorts…online.

Hubber Susan Ng didn’t have to drag me here after her HubPages announcement. We have been looking for ways to earn extra money on the internet. And this one sounded feasible. I hear the words writinghubsany topic of your choice…part time or full timeGoogle adsense. It didn’t make much sense then but I heard myself say, “Sounds good. Yes, I’ll join.”

And just like anything else in life, saying “yes” started it all.

Write on these blank pages will you please

HubPages was like a blank slate beckoning to your soul to share that part of you that longed to express things in words. As I browsed through the topics, excitement bubbled up from my streams of consciousness. “I can write about this. I can write about that. I can! I know I can!” It was as if a whole new world had rolled open before my eyes and it was full of endless possibilities.

And just like anything else in life, the idea of endless possibilities brings about an excitement that propels you forward to greater heights.

Connecting with people and loving it

HubPages became a venue to meet people from all walks of life. Anyone can be a member for free. When you sign up, it doesn’t matter what beliefs you have, what you eat for breakfast everyday, what kind of lingerie you wear when you sleep, whether you brush your teeth religiously or not, you can sign up and be officially called a Hubber.

I have enjoyed the interactions, the bantering, the exchange of ideas and opinions and getting to know different kinds of people. Oh yes! There are so many varied and interesting personalities and characters that you relate to; and each “relationship” has its own unique flavor to it.

For the most part, the hubbers I relate to have been very encouraging and supportive. Because of this, friendships have blossomed. Little successes can now be shared and celebrated. Prayers are asked during life’s challenges and problems. Laughter crosses the oceans and miles that seemingly separates us. Somewhere in between the writing, reading and leaving comments, your heart has opened up. In this bonding, I see myself grow. And I rejoice because I recognize the beauty of connecting with people and building bridges to each other’s lives.

And just like anything else in life, if you want to make friends then be a friend first. If you come barging in with an axe in your hand coupled with a battle cry on your lips, then you can be sure people with axes will appear too. But if you show kindness, compassion and love, then more of that will return to you.

Dip in the pool of knowledge and wisdom

HubPages to me became a place of learning. As I took the time to read the various hubs that intrigued me, my mind expanded in leaps and bounds. I traveled to different countries, immersed in other people’s cultures and customs, watched beautiful photos of festivities and sceneries, basking in the sun, learning how to watch my weight and eat what is right, tips and advice on all the topics you could think of and on and on and on. The heart was no exception. Reading inspirational articles is the one thing that brings light to my soul. And I read that the most.

And just like anything else in life, learning something new adds the thrill and spice to life. Knowledge opens your world. Wisdom gives you another perspective. Growth erases boredom.

Write to earn. Is it Possible?

Given the fact that I only wrote 38 hubs during the two years I’ve been with Hubpages; I cannot make heads or tails about keywords and SEO; and I haven’t been actively promoting my hubs in social bookmarking sites, but I have already received my Google adsense payout!

It is possible to earn! And I know many hubbers are earning regularly and with a higher rate too. Now don’t ask me how much because I absolutely have no idea. But working on this as part time, I am a happy hubber already. I can shout loud and clear. I am earning! Yippee!!!

And just like anything else in life, I jumped with glee at all my first time experiences -- the very first time I got my salary, the first time my article was published in the local newspaper, the first time it appeared in a magazine and of course, the first time I got my Google adsense payout!

One of these days, I see myself jump as high as I can the very first time I will have my first million dollars. Now wouldn’t that be something? Okay, I'm daydreaming... now where was I?

Defining myself time and time again

Life on HubPages has been an interesting journey.

I’ve participated in the Hubnuggets as the team’s official cheerleader, joined the Hubmobs when I have the time to research on specific topics and just said yes to the HubChallenge of writing 30 hubs in 30 days. There is always something new in HubPages.

The community on HubPages gives me the opportunity to accept people as they are; learn to respect each other for varying opinions and perspectives and allowing each person to be. And if we don't see things eye to eye, we just stay out of each other's way . Hahaha

Yes, HubPages made me define myself time and time again. Who am I? What am I doing? What ripples am I creating? Am I able to respond in love? Am I able to share my gift of healing? I watched myself as I respond to comments, read hubs and be consciously aware of where I am in my life.

Source

I have come to recognize that writing to me is not about competing. It is not about impressing but expressing of oneself. And I have chosen the path to share and express all things that gives me hope, which brings me joy and inspires me to be a better person. I joyfully wish that it will touch people’s lives as it did mine.

HubPages gave me that and more. It also taught me to love.

Is Hubpages worth it? Yes it is!

Thank you HUBPAGES, Hubpages team, Hubpages community, you rock!

PS. My Latest Update: I just celebrated my 4th year anniversary on Hubpages. I see that the Hubpages Team is continuously looking for ways for us to earn. Some have come and gone. But I'm still here!

Michelle, this article was a pleasure to read. From the first, I too have very much enjoyed my experience on HubPages. There are many reasons I would rather write for the Hub than any other site, but one of the big ones is your consistently upbeat attitude. The joyful way in which you express yourself is infectious and made an instant fan of me.

You just keep on Cheerleading. HubPages and all its readers are very fortunate to have you.

Hi John, your comment touched me. Thank you. I've lived too much with negativity all my life that I try (oh yes, sometimes failing at times) to look at the brighter side of life. And choosing has helped me tremendously. So I thank you and all the hubbers who make Hubpages a wonderful community to be in. Blessings be upon you John. :) Have a beautiful day and keep hubbing!

I enjoyed your hub, Ripplemaker. I hope to learn as much about myself here as you have. Thanks for giving me this new perspective on being a member of HubPages.

Like Teresa I have a completely ulterior motive - chocolate and/or coffee. But more importantly I have made some genuine friends here - 'virtual' friends, maybe I'll never look them in the eyes - but I care for and value them in my life more than someof my 'real' life acquaintances.

Also, in these 3 months since I've been here my adsense earnings have increased from about 0.01 cent per days TO about 0.70 cents per day ........ should be able to buy a bar of chocolate and a cup of coffee each week on that !

I agree with you. Also, being not that much of a prolific writer is good bcz you intend to write an authentic and high quality hub rather than cramming the hubpages with tens of meaningless hubs. Thanks dear

Thank you RippleMaker for responding to this request. I found myself completely connected to your words in this hub. Finding my head nodding and smiles coming across my face. I initially put the request out there in the early weeks. I just could not believe how HubPages came to me out of the blue and how it just took me over. I wanted to hear about the experiences of others. It was worth waiting. Thanks once again and keep Rippling :)

Hi Shamel, in the beginning I believe I was more scared of writing something wrong Hahaha but the encouragement and support of the community was just so amazing, it helped me fly. :-) It's always nice to have see you here.

I know I am a newbie here, only joined like 4 weeks ago. But, hubpages has gotten me writing again. I had been on sabbatical for 3 to 4 years, letting life get in the way of my love. So, when I found hubpages, I could not help but become a part of such a lively bunch. I hope to add something to everyones life as many hubs have brought me tears, joy and laughter as all of you have given a piece of yourself through your hubs. I enjoy every minute I am on hubpages. I have even recommended a few writer/LNA friends to this site. I am hoping to see them here soon. I have even been offered a writers job recently. I will tell more as it becomes official. Not like I can quit my LNA job, but it is a start. I want to thank all of you for all your encouragement and comments. I love being apart of this site and all of you. Thank you for your hub and allowing us to be a part of your past. I enjoyed it.

Michelle

My life is definitely changed - for better or for worse. But definitely, it has earned me quite a number of wonderful people - my virtual friends who have crossed the border by showing me the real faces behind the avatars and letting me hear the sound of their voices. I appreciate their trust as I'm sure they went out on a limb for that.

So I guess, "better" outweighs the "worse" :D

Hi cindy, hmmmm.... LOL

Hi wittywriter, there are many of us who feel the same way. :-) Join the club of happy hubbers! Hey and good luck with your new job! :-) Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings here. Keep writing and sharing!

Hi Cris, it is a wonderful feeling to gain friends. And I know it's also because you are a nice person in the first place. Reading all the wonderful sharings just reinforced all the things I hold dear in my heart and that hubpages is a wonderful place to be. :-)

Hi Murilion, there are hubbers already earning.  It took quite awhile for me to develop readership and of course, one has to write quality hubs.  :-)  This is not a get rich quick scheme. But yes, if you are serious there are many hubs that will help you learn and earn.  Good luck and happy hubbing! :-)

It's interesting how HubPages helps us discover aspects of ourselves that we were not aware of before. I found this in the case with me. And it's not just the writing. It's all the aspects of the HubPages community and involvement. Isn't it wonderful? I think your hub is awesome and I voted up.

Beautiful hub. Every time I read about someone else's success story here in Hubpages (and a fellow Filipino who became established and successful), I am always encouraged and uplifted. Before, I used writing to express myself whenever I am happy or every time I feel that the entire world is against me. Each time I wrote, it helped. It gave me the sense of security and the leap of faith. Then I decided to get out of that 'personal space' and reach out to more people by sharing interesting things through writing. When I did, I have found an avenue to touch other people's lives in ways I never thought possible. Reaching out helped me educate others about their health and well being. I cannot describe how much I have been delighted with such little accomplishments. I realized, writers are blessed to have the power to share powerful insights as how singers are lucky to share feel-good music.

I can't call myself a writer yet. But Hubpages makes me feel that I am one; pushes me to be one; and harnesses me in becoming one.

I must say... Music is my love and Hubpages is my mistress. And more often than not, the latter gets all the attention. Hahaha!

I'm glad you're finding your time here worthwhile. Like anything else, it takes effort and time to learn all the ropes. I really haven't been earning anything at all here until the past few months, when my income has shot up. Voting this Up and Interesting.
