My Hubpages Journey: The First Month

Sometime my best writing happens when everyone else is asleep!
Sometime my best writing happens when everyone else is asleep!

A Month Already?

Well, I have been writing and publishing my articles on Hubpages for about a month now. I really can't believe that it has been a month, since that means that I have been unemployed for three. I am not sure where the time is going, although I do spend quite a bit of it on the computer-much to the disapproval of my husband. The amazing thing about the Internet is that you can never stop running out of information to read. One topic leads to another, which leads to another- you get the picture here right? Ten more minutes turns into an hour and before you know it the sun is setting and your family is starving and ready to eat each other's arms off.

As of date, I have published 21 hubs-an average of about 5 a week. I wish it were more, but we just bought a new house and that consumes a great deal of time. Hopefully I will get more quality writing in once we get settled in the house-I can already hear my husband now! Right now I spend more time reading than I do writing. I am learning so much information. Last month I didn't know what SEO or niche blogging meant. I didn't know that you could make money off of Google Adsense or Amazon. The process has been slow, but I am enjoying learning about the Internet world. The World Wide Web is so large and is full of so much different information that I assume the learning process is a continuous one.

An Unique Community

I find Hubpages to be a very unique community that is full of such knowledgeable people that are as unique as the site itself. I read some of the work that is on here and am amazed at the quality and honesty behind the words. I am forever grateful to those the put so much effort into what they do-and the funny thing is that the ones that are not in it for the money are the ones that tend to do the best. I want to be like that. I love to write and am grateful for the space to share my work. I have never been so open about my writing before.

I have joined in on the forums from time to time but it is hard to find a footing among so many different types of people. You never know if what you will say will set someone off ranting. I have decided to tread slowly in that area and slowly introduce myself. I do like to greet the new hubbers and give some encouraging words. I am pretty sure, like any forum community, that time and presence are essential for forum success. It is not like publishing your own hubs and having control over the comments that are on them.

The highlight of my time here so far was a nomination for a hubnugget and then finding out that my article Marriage Takes Elbow Grease won second place! This was a great surprise to me and gave me that boost I needed to keep writing. This is a great opportunity to get your writing work shown to other people.

I am really interested in making money online, however, I have also learned that in order to be successful in this area it takes time and an understanding of how the process works. I have spent a great deal of time reading and studying different things that are essential for online success. I have much to learn, however I have purchased my first domain name. I have not found a hosting service for it yet, as this is the area that I am researching at the moment. I do know what I want to do with it and what direction I would like it to go in so I guess that is a good a place to start as any. Time will tell.

I have sign-up for both Google Adsense and Amazon Associates to try and generate some income from my writing. As of date, I have made $2.00 with Adsense and $0.00 with Amazon. I am not discouraged, in fact, I didn't think it would be so much fun to watch pennies collect in a virtual account! I have done my research in these two areas and know success only comes after time. I am a dreamer but also a realist.

My first month has not been wasted and I am two dollars richer than when I started. I have met some very talented people and hope to continue to do so. Let's see where the second month takes me shall we?

Christina, It sounds like you learned more the first month than I did. I did get ad sense quickly but i have yet to make a dime from Amazon. It doesn't seem to matter how appropriate the articles are for the selection. Hopefully I will figure out a way to improve that situation. I'm glad you are moving forward with your new plans.

I am pleased to be watching you grow, my friend. You are wise to tread carefully in the forums, but no one can rant if you say stuff with love and respect. I avoid some of the difficult forum threads - if you dont like the heat, keep out of the kitchen - but there is nothing to stop you from adding something wonderful here x

Well done, I didn't get to do half as much in my first month here. lol. Also, continue to enjoy writing and I'm sure in a few months, your cheques will be coming in consistently.

Best Wishes. :)

Welcome to Hubpages and congrats on 1000 views! It's great that you are not discouraged - it does take time to get some decent income - but you'll notice as you continue to publish quality hubs that you're fans and views will go up as will your revinue - it's a long term effort and the rewards will come in time!!! It's taken me 7 months and only now am I beginning to see some decent returns!

A Warm welcome to Hubpages from me as well, Hey 1000 views in such a short span of time you really rock girl. Your adsense earnings prove you are on a good start. Now you own another new fan.

Hey Christina, you did a wonderful job writing about your first month on HubPages. I'm glad you are enjoying yourself. I too enjoy my time here and managed to make a little bit of money. Writing 5 Hubs a week of quality content can take you farther than you realize. Do not need to push yourself to produce more in a week. Try not to do so, because you might suffer quality for quantity. :) Thank you for sharing your thoughts, feelings and experiences. :)
