Hub Writing
My Writing Corner
Where It All Started
A movie about Julia Childs was my inspiration. Don't we all have SOMETHING we can write about? I can share my life with others! It took about three months for me to muster enough nerve to write and publish my first hub. It was the beginning of a long process.
Writing my first hub felt like I was putting my toe in a huge ocean. It felt overwhelming and too large a challenge to tackle on my own. I was so afraid of making a mistake and feared any error that I made wouid stand out like a sore thumb.
My first hub topics came one at a time. I had an idea and then formulated my plan mentally before tackling the actual hub. Soon, the ideas began to come in twos or threes. I would experience two or three events in my life over a weekend and have to plan which hub came first. My iphone has helped more than anything else. It goes everywhere with me and thus some spontaneous ideas were birthed while living life.
Yes, I have days when there are no fresh topics bubbling around in my mind to write on. By waiting patiently, something usually presents itself as a noteworthy topic within a few days. If I can get excited about the topic, it will be fun and worthwhile to write about. Oh, did I mention that I am writing because I enjoy it?
Navigating Hub Pages
Hub Pages is relatively simple to navigate. With practice, I mastered the format and downloaded photos without too many difficulty. It took some time, but gradually I developed a method for writing my hubs.
Reading other hubs about Hub Pages gave me insight about Adsense, Google and Amazon ads. With a little effort, I was able to begin placing ads on my hubs. Reading other hubs, writing comments, and building a fan base helped me become part of the hub community. By reading other hubs, I sometimes discovered something I could do better and was able to make changes to previous hubs with that new information. As a result, I think my hub appearance has improved.
Many tools have been added since I began my journey with Hub Pages! They continue to make improvements that make it easier to write hubs and build hub community.
Some Level of Success
I don't usually count hubs. One day I noticed that my number of published hubs had grown considerably. Leaving my hub count at 99 was too difficult. I have no new topics perking in my brain at the moment. I think it is a good thing to look at the journey that you have been on and see how far you have come. This hub is dedicated to the road that I have traveled.
Some of my hubs are doing very well. I am amazed at the number of people who have a need to fold towels or organize a cabinet under their sink. Other hubs sit idly by while occasional visitors peruse their pages. To think that my viewers are local, across this nation and in other countries inspires me to write more. Still locked inside are many more hubs to be written and information to be shared! Lord, help us all to be writers of integrity and to share what you would have us share!
