The Hubbies: 2012 Voting Ideas

Docmo's Imp

Normally I am an original person...normally but not always. I read Cogerson's hub "My 2012 Hubbie Award Ballot" and thought it was great! Not only was the hub great, but it was a great idea. So, since imitation is the highest form of flattery I thought I'd flatter Cogerson and imitate his hub!

I read that there are 50 million new readers on Hub Pages a month...that's a lot of readers. What about hubbers themselves? Hub statistic show;

  • 2,237,936 hub users
  • 190,936 total users
  • 1,229,471 published hubs

I would imagine even the best hubbers and most conscientious followers can't possibly know all 190,936 users. Many hubbers write lists of some of their favorite hubbers and some do interviews but still, 190,936 is a number I don't think we can get our head around. Now add to that the long list of nominations for the Hubbie Awards and you could be faced with a dilemma.

Billybuc

Our own Bill after writing an exceptionally taxing hub!

I cannot solve the dilemma for you but I can give you a few ideas. Since time is running short (nominations close on the 24th) I thought now would be a good time for me to give you some of my suggestions. Remember these are just suggestions and you will need to form your own opinions and cast your own ballots.

The Best All-Around Hubber - I have two nominees for this title; Docmo and Billybuc. Docmo is from the UK and one of the finest, most versatile minds I've ever seen. He writes knowingly and interestingly about health issues, he writes unsurpassed poems with photos and presentations he prepares himself, he writes humor that would make a monk smile, his original artwork is amazing, and on and on. If you don't know him I would suggest you give his profile and list of hubs a quick look see. http://docmo.hubpages.com/

What about Billybuc? How can he compare? Believe it or not he does! Olympia, Washington's proud son brings humor and warmth to his hubs. He shares his knowledge and his years as a teacher are surely evident in all his writings. He starts many of his hubs with a welcoming, often instructional, feel good, video. A caring, helpful person and hubber who also has a great sense of humor...well, see for yourself. http://billybuc.hubpages.com/

So, that's my first dilemma. One I have to whittle down quickly to get in my vote!

Other Hubbers to Consider

Best All Around Hubber
JeriLee Wei
J.S. Matthews
Twilight Lawns

Funniest Hubber
Kenneth Avery
Diogenes
PeanutButterWine

Best Community Activist
J.S. Matthews

IMHO my good friend fpherj48, from Western New York, Effer, as we call her, is always there with a quip and a humorous comment, not to even mention her funny hubs and all round good sense of humor. She's down for Most Cheerful Hubber in my book. I would add Sunshine 625, hailing from Orlando, Florida, because she always brings the sunshine with her, but I also see SS as Mostly Likely to Become a Hub Pages Employee. Lastly in this category is Nell Rose from across the sea with her tremendous British sense of humor!

Funniest Hubber was a tough one...all of the hubbers I've already mentioned could certainly win this category but then there's TTombs08. Anyone who has a llama for a friend has a a sense of humor! She can tickle your funny bone like no one else can. Her sense of humor is all over her hubs and her comments!

Most Political Hubber has a few for my vote as well. There's Ghost32, Feenix, and Pagesvoice..to name a few.

Best Fiction Writer...KDuBarry03 is a college student from New Jersey and his series "Blessed in the Moon-Sun Lights" is a horror story with tremendous originality, ; Ghost 32 pops up here again with his series "They Walk Among Us"

Best Poet ... PDXKaraokeGuy who lives in Oregon with his lovely bride, is not only a poet extraordinaire but he gives great hints on writing poetry; there's also AudreyHowitt from California hears the words of her poetry and her love of poetry shines through in everyone of her lovely poems. Lyns believes in painting with words and writes all types of poems covering many different subjects. If we're to consider haiku we have to include Vinayaghimire who writes such beautiful haiku and explains it to us so well.

Best Teacher...Lord de Cross my resident Math teacher, hails from New Jersey. His hubs are more than math but his 'math teaching hubs' are superlative and make math interesting! Schoolgirlforreal from Massachusetts gives us lots of good "how to" hubs, and ThePracticalMommy from the Eastern US, does great hubs on pregnancy, child rearing, and so many other child-related hubs. Don't forget Brett-tesol our computer/internet expert!

How about Most Likely to Go Viral...Twilight Lawns. This incredible writer covers lots of subjects but it's the amazing fiction! Even the name Twilight Lawns, which happens to be the name of a home for the aged that he (Twilight Lawns) created. He even has a web site for Twilight Lawns. Creative, imaginative, I can see him going viral.

I know you have thinking and researching to do so I'm not going to go into the other categories. Well, maybe one more. Best Avatar...now I don't want to blow my own horn, but have you seen me as Cruella? Well, since I got this idea from Cogerson I guess I have to mention he does have a cute avatar...the decision is yours..Cruella or cute...may the best person win!

Hope this hub was helpful in narrowing down some of your choices. Good luck and even if you don't vote for every category, vote for the ones you're sure of!

Great list, some are definitely getting my vote!

I was not planning to vote after looking at last year's results and disagreeing vehemently with two of those awarded (which made the awards look more like a popularity contest than awards for quality to me).

However, your hub may have changed my mind, as I agree with your potential picks. Problem is, I have the same issue with choosing among them!

Mary, I am humbled! Thank you so much my friend! Just being mentioned means so much to me. Seven months ago I was scared and totally unsure if I even belonged among such wonderful writers. Your validation gave me a big old smile and warm fuzzies all over. :) Thank you, Mary!

Jaye, I would think (and hope) this is like any other election...enough votes and the good guys win!

Jools glad you liked my hub.

Billy you deserve it all and more!

Turtlewoman, I was going crazy trying to pick and though others might be too, so....

Mary, you are far too kind. I never really considered myself funny. Most of my friends refer to me as the smart @$$. :) But I am extremely honored and humbled to be mentioned by someone as talented, kind and gracious as you. Did that get me any points? :)

Seriously, the biggest thank you I can send without getting charged for extra shipping! :)

Not to worry TT, I believe in Karma ;) Your points are already in...I'm not the only one voting for you I'm sure! No extra shipping, they're sent C.O.D. :)

Not sure how I missed this hub....but I am glad I got the chance to check it out.....you have provided some awesome suggestions for this year's Hubbie Awards. Many I am very aware of, while others I will need to investigate.

With all the hubbers and hubs here on HubPages it is amazing how you can discover somebody, and then find it out they have been here for years. I can tell you that you got at least two votes from my household for Best Avatar....hopefully one of us will win it.

I appreciate the link and the mentions in your hub....I think it took about 2 weeks last year for the results.

Voted up and awesome. I also enjoyed reading the comments...very entertaining as well.

tillsontitan profile image

tillsontitan 4 years ago from New York Author

Well, though we're in a duel to the death :) I am glad we are following each other. The avatar is of course, an interesting title to have, but having great hubbers like you reading and following me is so much more important. Glad you found this hub.

Thanks for the heads up on the results, this is my first time...glad you were gentle ;)

P.S. Thanks for the votes...you got mine.

It is true that we will never read or know all the hubbers, however, many of us have surely found our favorite hubbers.

Thanks for this headway for those who are not sure whom to vote for.

Thanks for stopping by Vinaya. It is so overwhelming when you look at how many hubbers there actually are!

Tillie......I can respond to this!! YAYYY! One of the few that will allow me to post a comment. This hub is superb, GF. Many you mention, I know and agree with your choices and explanations...many I do not know, but now, thanks to you, I will check them out. Thanks so much for the "mention," you're too sweet.

I did nominate you for best Avatar........must vote soon! UP++

Thanks Effer. In addition to introductions to hubbers some might not know I thought this would help jump start some to vote, either way I figured it was a win win Hub Pages hub. Not big for points or income ;) but that's not why I wrote it.

Of course I voted for you for Most Cheerful Hubber 'cause you're always so darn cheerful :)

I don't think I'm EVEN telling Jim about this one........He may pass out from laughter!!........His darling precious little snooky-wooky......CHEERFUL??? Well, OK, at least when I'm getting my way! Too bad they don't have a category for demanding little brats!! LMAO....Have a fun vaca!!
