Interview: Vincent Moore

Source

Meet Vincent Moore

I feel like I have 'always known' Vincent Moore, saddlerider, The Cowboy, known by his friends as Ken.

I learned early on that this man was loyal and true to his friends. I was also drawn to the range of poetic expression that comes out of Vincent's quill. For me, his writing is visual, visceral and vulnerable.

I believe you will enjoy this interview about HubVille's resident poet. I know you will enjoy a visit to his writing sites.

The times I'm most creative

are late evenings, bottle of wine to my right. candlelight and quietude, with my Muse ever so close prompting me to take Quill in hand.

The times I'm most joyful

are when I hear from my children, it hasn't happened in 13 years so I struggle with joy in my life, but I do find ways to stay centered, like cooking, reading, exercise, music and visiting close friends.

Something I'd like to learn to do

Hmm that would be diplomacy. I find as I'm ageing my mind and mouth seem to awake at the same time and often I am defending my actions.

Something I got rid of and never missed...?

My last wife, I never really got rid of her in a horrible sense, like bloody murder or something as terrible. Although after our divorce I thought I did get rid of her, she still haunts me day and night. LoL

Something I fear?

never ever talking to or seeing my children again before I die.

What I most despise in others?

I despise liars, cheaters bullies, woman beaters, child abusers, arrogance, snobbery. Need I say more?

Some advice to my younger self?

Follow your dreams, don’t let people put you down. Stay focused on your path. If you find your soul mate ensure she is your best friend first and let nobody get in between the two of you.

The best part of getting older?

Being healthy to enjoy it.Doing all the things you planned to do, stay young at heart and never stop dancing.

Best gift I ever gave someone?

My utmost respect and friendship everlasting to the point of dying for them if I had to.

If you peeked in my closet, you would be surprised to find?

Much BLACK clothing, I won’t wear bright colors or white until my soul is cleansed completely. My Muse and I are constantly working on it.

My secret talent?

I have none, they are all exposed in my writings. Although I would love to be an accomplished musician. I struggle with my guitar miserably.

Best gift I ever received from someone?

When I was 15 yrs old, meeting my Mentor and father I never had. He then became my Muse and he passed over to the other side in 92.

My dream dinner date?

I would love to have dinner with Sylvia Platt, Vincent Price, Edgar Allan Poe and Papa Hemingway, I know we would have much to share and the wine would flow.

My favorite vacation spot, paradise destination?

There are so many, however I would love to explore Greece and sail its blue waters and speak to the ghosts from their past.

Best advice to a new writer

Keep writing and don't get discouraged by negatives. Express yourself from your soul, let your pen flow naturally, don't force it. Stay in control and don't be deterred by critics.

My favorite book and why?

It isn’t the Bible as so many would choose Anything Charles Dickens or Samuel Clements would take me into another world where I would be content.

What subjects / genres are you best at writing/ about?

My past experiences as a boy and teen, the abuse in life, the homeless and the pain of growing older and trying to express your life that you lead.

What would be a subject/ genre that would challenge your current writing efforts?

Writing about pretty things, I find melancholy my best subject.

Thank you, Vincent

I had no difficulty selecting the following Temptations song for you, the eternal Cowboy of HubPages...: "Runaway Child, Running Wild".

I've been anticipating this interview and you both nailed it! The questions were fabulous and Saddle's answers made me laugh and almost cry because of his children.

Desperado will be in my head for the rest of today. Thank you both for sharing!!

I like what's in the closet, it's similar to mine...not due to my soul, but because I love black!

In CyberSpace Vincent Moore is my knight in shining armor (and my stepbrother). About two years ago I was attacked by a bully - one of Vincent's best friends. Not fearing that he may lose his friend and not afraid to get involved, Vincent supported me, and in such a gentle way that even his friend must have taken off his hat. And this was not the first time Vincent proved to me and for all to see that he will indeed give as a gift to his friends ".... utmost respect and friendship everlasting to the point of dying for them if he had to..."

A hub of Vincent - then Saddlerider - was the first I've read when I arrived in HubPages somewhere in the middle of 2010. It was a short story that had touched my heart and made me realized for the umpteenth time that some lovers destroy and mutilate, instead of love, each other, and this is a phenomenon I will never be able to understand.

Vincent was one of the few hubbers who inspired me to write poems. Ever since then I could count on his support.

It is good to know you in Cyberspace, Vincent, and I think in real life too, you would have been one of my very best friends, if not the best. Oh, and you would never feel like crying in my presence... Tralalala..... lol! You know I will tease you out of your cowboy boots and morbid thoughts... :)

Maria, as always, all thumbs up for you, my sista in CyberSpace... :))

Doctor, Doctor give me the news, I've got a bad case of adoring you...I couldn't resist..LOL..Vincent AKA ken is a magnificent poet who stirs my soul with his hauntingly beautiful poetry. Many times I find myself weeping while reading his words. He is generous. He is one of the first to encourage me to write poetry. I will always remember what he told me. " Write from your heart, pay no attention to critics, they don't know your heart. " My one wish is for his children to realize how much he misses them. What a GREAT interview Mar. ' Run away child ' Is perfect..Thank you..

Oh Mar, what a Wonderful, Beautiful, Poignant Interview. Vincent is Vincent, true to his writings and himself, in what he has to say. Not a happy life, and things I'm sure he wishes (we all do) that we had done differently. A Heartfelt Interview, to a really Great Poet and Man.

Vincent's books that are available on Amazon.com, entitled, "In Absinthia" and "In Melancholia" are only two sources of his written genius. He also narrates his poems on Cloud and has a blog and, I believe and account here.

What I like best about Vincent is that he is such an authentically kind human who goes out of his way to lift up others and he always has an encouraging word for other writers, even when he is wounded to the depths of his soul.

His desire is that one day his children will want to know him and what he is about and he leaves these legacies in hopes that they will someday read and understand him. In the mean time, he delights his readers with such a pure talent and an authentic voice that we are drawn to him like moths to the flame.

Great interview!

First I want to applaud Poohgranma, the marketing plug is very important. All of us need to get better at promoting the writing done here.

Vincent you are one of a handful of hubpage authors that takes the reader to depths that they are not accustomed to. You pen travels down dark corridors and the reader is often left with a chill when finished. That is no small task and you seem to accomplish it with ease.

This comment stream speaks volumes about how much you are respected here on hubpages. Your work will outlast you by decades. I predict the works of Vincent Moore will be read in college English classes.

From one Desperado to another all the best with your goal with your children.

Mar you did a wonderful job with this Hub.

You are making us all look good!

Sunshine625 thank you for your lovely comment and nice to read that you love Black as well, only in a different way:-) appreciated your visit to my interview, it was fun doing it.

@Car51 Yes indeed my Muse and I are in sync with melancholy and darkness more times than not:-) yet this is what comes from my soul and thus I let it come forth.

@writer20, Joyce thank you for your kind words and indeed Vincent will be back with new scribes.

@Martie my dear friend, yes indeed we did cry on each others shoulder a little, I admired your writing right from the beginning we first met. You have inspired me to write some short stories and through reading your great works, I was able to hone some of my writing skills to. You are one of my biggest supporters and I am very grateful for you. Yes if we met and lived in the same city, no doubt we would be great friends, we think in sync often. Hugs

@always exploring, you as well were one of my first followers back two years ago, I have followed your work and commented often. You to have inspired me to be creative and I have laughed and cried alongside your scribes as well. You often write from your heart and your readers feel you with each word you pen. I am honored to know you and be admired by you. Hugs.

@Astra Yes my writings do reveal the real me, I often have laid my soul bare for all to read about, it's was very necessary for me to do so in order to release it from my soul.

I concur with much that was said, Vincent, though children, not have I. A blessing just to know that and the impact a life makes upon another as a child. I have no doubt from what I have read and heard authored by your'self' to other budding authors, you are on top of that. Seeing the many comments made in my short while here I would say a role model for many may be another story told.

Hi Momma! Vincent is indeed an applaudable member of HP, a respected author and a man to admire. The admiration for him is obvious in his many fans and followers.

Vincent shows great courage in his writings. For many of us, this is not easy. But Vincent, indirectly, let's us know that it is OK to take this step forward and face the fear that may be holding us back from sharing. More people may understand what we have been through and live with than our mind may allow us to believe.

This series has afforded many of us the opportunity to meet and learn about some fine people. Thank you for providing us with the chance to learn more about Vincent.

FANTASTIC! Marie...You have just interviewed one of my ALL TIME favorite, creative, thoughtful, in depth and honest writers. I have ALWAYS held such high respect and esteem for Vincent aka Ken aka Saddlerider. His writer is stellar. I believe the beautiful, thought provoking, profound and touching creations Vincent has shared with his readers WILL become required reading for future students of the arts; particularly creative writing. I have told him so.

Vincent, though I have had so little time to read and comment as I used to; I have continued to peruse your efforts. I am in awe and deep respect for your incredible ability to share, with the most prosiac verse, your feelings, experiences, inner thoughts, doubts and life challenges. You are a cut above...there is no doubt. The pictures; images you've painted for us to ponder are beyond astounding; they are truly (at the risk of being repetitive) PROFOUND. How many of your faithful followers have read your words and felt a deep seated empathy? How many of us have wished we could have said it half as well?

Well, this 'wanna be' writer certainly can attest to those thoughts. And, with great admiration; I honor you through Maria's efforts.

Thank you both!!!! UP Awesome, Useful, Incredible, Truthful, in simple, straightforward answers....simply astounding! Beautiful, Interesting and more.

I know I am being extremely extreme here but..well...it applies!!!

I was wondering if the talented Vincent Moore would consent to be in this great series (knew of course, that you would ask him) and was thrilled to see that he did!

I have been an avid fan since his Saddlerider days and am always deeply moved by the hubs and poems that he writes. It is clear that his soul shines through his prose and poetry, even when they're melancholy and aching.

You said it best with this line: "For me, his writing is visual, visceral and vulnerable."

For me, it is the vulnerability that makes him stand out from other writers. It's as if he opens a vein and words of gold pour out. Words filled with pain, love, regret yet also hope for the future, for eventual reconciliation with his children.

I admire him for sharing the depths of his soul in his writings and am in awe of his great talent.

Voted up across the board except for funny.

Voted up and interesting. I knew there was something special about Vincent. I could just feel it every time I read his great hubs. I'm just wild about the song Desperado. Something hauntingly beautiful in it. If Vincent would help me I would sure be willing to see if we could contact Hemingway, Poe and Vincent Price and have a real nice chat. Real dark red wind and black candles on the table and all. Have loved black ever since I fell for the Addams Family but I also love wearing bright colors. Another wonderful interview Maria. Keep them coming.

Vital, versatile, venerable, valuable Vincent - my friend, Ken - is venerated and verified here on Maria's wonderful intervVew and tribute. Thank you for this choice!

It's no secret that Ken's one of my favoritest people on earth! He really does give me a sense of being cherished each time we exchange words and within the inVisible bonds we've formed over these past 2 years or so. He's become one of the best writers and poets on HP - and beyond, with his inspiration fed from his depths and the breadth of his Varied experience.

I hope your children realize what a treasure you are, Ken. But 13 years - - sigh - - it's been 40 years for one of mine, as you know. I can't assure you it gets easier or less painful, but it does begin to seem more 'as it's ordained". As a mother, I take great joy in seeing that my son's life has turned out well. He was 57 May 31, possibly too old to change. I dunno. But I didn't let him down by shriveling up. Perhaps losing something so precious as our beloved children has been one of the strongest bonds we've shared. You know I empathize with you and hold you in the highest esteem.

I have this vision of Vincent Moore with his quill pen and ink bottle seated before a warm fire in his chamber while the wind and rain rattle on the rafters. He is writing furiously, capturing the fleeting visions from his boyhood growing up in the cobblestone streets of old Montreal. Some of the memories are painful and sad as he recalls the rage and wrath of an abusive father, brothers and sisters huddled together for support and sanctuary. Other memories are lyrical and bittersweet, images of a beloved Mother working to keep her family safe and warm, painted with a loving pen. I see Vincent sipping from his glass of wine, gazing into the fire with tears flowing from his eyes as words flow from his pen until the fire grows cold and the morning sunlight touches the tall window of his old fashioned room and he hears the sweet song of birds singing and he lays his weary head on the table filled with dreams as an angel taps him on the shoulder and whispers comfort as she gently throws a cloak of love and light over his weary soul and he rests refreshed.

I don't know about my works being read by future generations, for now I am happy to share with the living and persons who want to read me. Beautiful tribute, Marie! :) Ken came to my attention through fellow hubber, Wayne Brown, and I'll admit to having developed a little crush on the handsome man with the deep soul and amazing ability to express all the feelings within. It's been a pleasure to get this glimpse into the man who is the magician known as Vincent Moore and saddlerider1.

Ken, you are an HP treasure - and one of the kindest and most talented folks I've met around here. You're an inspiration to me in many ways. :)

Ken and I go back to my first days here on the Hub. Something just clicked with the two of us and we have built on that friendship for over two years now here in Hubville. I remember when both of us first tried our hands at poetry...we laughed about what a stupid idea that was...neither of us knew anything about it but both of were enthralled with the talent of "ralwus" and "nellieanna" in that genre. While it worked out for me eventually, from the first poem I read by Vincent (Ken), I knew that he had truly found the instrument which would release his very inner soul...far more powerful that any other approach that he had used to that point hitting the message from his heart right between the eyes. After a time, here on the Hub, one quickly recognizes talent and in that light, there is just no way to miss Vincent Moore and his wealth of talent. Ken and I share a lot of experiences and both of us have the same desires relative to our children...a point on which we closely relate. If you could only pick one person to witness in terms of talent, growth, demeanor, and truly deserving of any success he reaps, for me, it would be Vincent Moore. God Bless Ya, Ken!

Maria and Ken, what a delightful and very interesting interview. I commend you both for such a beautiful gift -- you, Maria, for the perfect questions, and you, Ken, for such openness in sharing with us the beauty of your heart and soul. I am proud to know you both.

I see a different part of you after reading this interview, Ken, and that is the love you have for yourself. This is absolutely touching and nothing to be ashamed of. One cannot learn to love others without first accepting and loving who they truly are. I am going through a very emotional time in my life these last several months and have found out a lot about myself thanks to a very dear friend who is my teacher, guide, and mentor. The most important thing he has taught me is to learn to love myself so I may become truly whole and at peace. You may not see this happening yourself yet, but I sure do, my dear friend.

Blessings and hugs to both of you. May you always walk in peace and harmony.

First I want to thank Maria for selecting me as one of her male hub friends to interview. I was so honored when asked to do so and thus the opening of my heart and soul. Then to receive all these wonderful comments from so many talented friends who I admire so much. Without you all inspiring me to write, my Quill would lay idle and dust covered.

It's my Muse that speaks to me and has found my voice, one which I lost so many years ago in silence. It was joining Hub Pages that he discovered me and opened my soul's door to express myself in my poetry. I often am in awe of what I pen and go back to it often before publishing, is it me? this person writing this, where does it come from?

All these questions I ask and yet my Muse just continues to open me up. So I want to thank you all for reading what I pen and open your hearts and minds to my scribble. It's been a harrowing week to say the least, my internet was down until yesterday, being without it for almost six days was awful, yet it gave me a chance to rest my mind for awhile, now that I am up and running again I wanted to come here to give so much thanks to each and every one of you for commenting here. Vincent Moore... the quill his sword... laced with ink.. his own blood

writes down like the wind blowing from the ends of the earth met in unison to create a spark ..... unknown to man...

Such is his poetry and the power of his writing... the more I read him .. the more I am amazed...

My mentor...... for me.. you are one celebrated poet.. who comes in ten centuries...

Hat's off to you and I am glad I could know u more..

thank you Maria

Maria....You were born to do this! Your many talents and exceptional personality, combine to create perfection in art form. I so enjoyed this interview...with HubPages one and only....the incredible Mr. Vincent Moore..........I couldn't help but smile ..yet, that bothersome lump in my throat, intruded here and there.

My heart felt heavy ....reading some of Vincent's early memories of brutes and monsters, I'd be thrilled to dispose of, if I had the chance!!

Oh, but my connections beyond this earth...have assured me that "Blacky" jumped a cloud or two......and took a huge bite from the seat of the Monster's knickers...just before he was sent to the ovens.............

GOOD BOY!!! Blacky!! UP +++

I am so appreciative of your thoughtful remarks and wish you

each a peaceful day.

Saddlerider, Ken, and Vincent were my earliest supporters. I got lost sometimes since he referred to himself in the third person, and I wasn't too bright to figure out who was who. All three of them wrote deep, sorrowful poetry, revealing the underbelly of life.

Vincent Moore, like Vincent Price can take you to the depths of shadows where you may not make it back. However, in the end you're back where you started, and happy to know that someone else can scribe these dark tales that you don't have to. One day Vincent or Ken may make it to the light. Then all the romance poets will have to find another genre to write about, because Vincent/Ken/Saddlerider will be master of that genre also. Kudos Ken/Vincent/Saddlerider!

I just wanted to stop in to say thank you for all the wonderful comments about Ken/Saddlerider/Vincent Moore. Being one in the same person is often a difficult task, my mood swings often leave me with an identity crisis. I have mainly penned about the demons in my closet from youth and early teens to my adulthood. I come and go so it's difficult for me at times to express my sincerest thank you's.

I came back for a read and found these extra comments and I was moved by them all. I apologize for my tardiness in responding to you as my life has been in turmoil this past month with a big change in my living space. I am making adjustments, yet my writing has been idle for it. My Muse has left me for a spell, when he returns I know not.

I await him anxiously as my quill is forlorn without him. Sadly I am silenced for now, accept for this reply of gratitude for all your kind and wonderful words. I send you my sincerest greetings and I will be back hopefully soon. Peace and blessings to everyone of my friends who left me their words.

VALIANT Vincent,

We may need to indeed VACATE our minds at times to gain the VISIBILITY for our muses to express. You will write when you are ready...

Thank you VERY much for your VISIT. Hugs, Maria

This interview is one of the few I missed and just HAD to find to read.

Ken came and left such a wonderful comment on my very first hub that it gave so much more confidence to publish more. Ever since he has been a wonderful support, kind, compassionate and thoughtful and lifted me when I have been down, with kind and encouraging words.. Kinda like a big brother and for that I am most grateful from the bottom of my heart.

His poetry is far beyond the norm, it is deep, meaningful and reaches right into the heart of his readers. He is a TRUE poet.

I believe that Ken was just born in the wrong era. I am sure he and Poe would have been the best of friends and I have no doubt that ken would have been there for his friend at the end when Poe most needed a friend.

And I kinda like black, it is sexy :)

Thank you Maria for this interview with the hubs best poet

Maria, I screwed up big here and missed commenting here!

Ken, Mi Amigo, we touch bases rarely these days and I have not forgot the Amigos, we just seemed to fade away. I'm draggin up, the back of the herd as this morning it dawned on me I had not read this and commented.

I'm like the deck of playing cards that lost all it's aces so I deeply apologize for not commenting to a guy that seems has always been here, I can't remember when you weren't. I hope you get the dreams of being back with your children for a good long time. Life's not fair, don't seem, we often get burnt when never standing remotely close to the fire. We can change only ourselves, and may be influence others. I can say that you indeed influenced me to read more poetry back when I rode into town, I'd have laughed and spit on the ground if some one told me I would. I figure back then getting me to set a bull that had stood un rode would have held better odds in a bet. Seems I read many a poem by you voted up always and seldom commented, I never seemed to have the words to put forward to scratch the itch you were writing about. I remember reading the one that either in it or in comment, it would be your last on the topic. I hope that was true and you did it with a clear thought. Many things in life are like a loaded needle to a junky, a feller just can't in the twinkling of an eye, look at and walk away from. I spose that might be one of them things for you, but a sure as we breath there remains hope in all things.

Go Well, Fair Winds and Following seas,

Peace Love and Understanding,

dust

Thank you for a beautiful interview with the sexiest man in Hub Land. Vincent is a poet of the highest calibre, he writes with such sensitivity and emotion that it is hard to not want to grab a hold of him and give him a hug. I love his strength and yet his vulnerability also, for he is a real man in my eyes. His kindness and support has always been offered freely, and I appreciate his loyalty to his hub followers. Walk tall Vincent, for you are a giant amongst men. Nette x

You will have Vincent BLUSHING with these BEAUTIFUL remarks. Your taste in men and writing is simply the BEST!

Love to you and Vincent too, Maria

@Rosemay50 You are a wonderful writer and deserving of much support and believe me I am honored to do so. A fellow hubber Martie C calls me her big brother to:-) I like that. Thank you for the accolade a TRUE POET how interesting. I am simply a man who conveys his thoughts from his soul. You're right about being born in the wrong era I often feel a connection to the past. If Poe and I had met I know we would have become immediate friends and believe me I would have died trying to keep him sober and on track, yet us poets don't know our destiny and thus we flow with it. I am happy to read that you enjoy Black, it's one of my favourite colors, I wonder why? Hugs, lol

@Dusty aka 50 Caliber Man I can't tell you how much I appreciate you and your lifestyle. It took balls to do what you have done, accomplished both in the past and now in the present. My hat is tipped to you as I bow before you sir. My dreams of being back with my children still hang over me with hope. I hope I influence others to pick up the pen and let it pour out, if you really open yourself it will happen. Don't worry about critics, they are healthy to our writing and honing skills. My friend you have commented on my work and I am honoured with your presence at any time. Amigos we are and Wayne Brown and Charlie aka Rawlus we are three. Even though the Rawlus has taken a new path, he keeps writing and has found the Blacklight to his taste and penning very well. He continues to share his soul with his excellent work. Wayne Brown what more can be said about this cowboy with a golden quill, I admire his work to. Dusty I thank you for complimenting me here and sharing your thoughts with others, I am in your corner always and like I said earlier admire your walk in life and choices made. Peace and blessings I send you this day.

@thebluestar. Wow I am shaken by your endorsement of my work and kind words. Sexiest? ha ha maybe at one or two times in my younger life, but now I am simply an elder man growing old with time. Sean Connery and I enjoy the wine, woman and song we enjoyed. Now we are old war horses enjoying the days we have left. A real man I have always been and still am. I close my eyes and see my Braveheart on the moors fighting to my death for a cause. You my lady are a scribe beyond words, I admire your work, your talent, your honesty and your friendship to so many. Thank you my sweet poet. Hugs

@marcoujor. As always your replies back to the comments are stupendous and filled with color and charm. You my dear support my work and leave me comments that I never forget and enjoy so much. I need people like you in my life, keep them coming I am your loyal follower. Hugs

This was nice to read, and I respect and admire Vincent for his honesty and poetry- soul and heart. You know, i've totally missed out on your hubs, I didn't read too much in the past, but I see you have many gems I need to catch up that are not only informative but very interesting as well.

Thank you ever so much for visiting the interview of one of my favorite poets and dear friends on HP, Vincent.

Trying to keep up with everyone's work has remained a mystery to me. However, it means the world that you stopped by.
