UPDATE: AdSense Account Reinstated

UPDATE 3/2/2011

**Update** I got an email from AdSense today and they say that upon further review they are reversing their decision and reinstating my account. SO, I guess maybe they finally saw I did not do anything wrong. I am very grateful and relieved for this... yet a bit shook up still that it even happened.. I guess they weren't quite as horrible as I thought- though I still feel what happened was wrong. Anyway, just want everyone to know (that have read this hub and for all who commented) that they did actually reverse their decision and reinstate my account. I really hope this was a freak thing that happened to me and doesn't happen often to other people. Who knows?

Here is what happened:

I signed up for Adsense a few months ago when I first started writing on HubPages. It wasn't the main reason I joined but Adsense quickly became a huge motivator for me after I checked my earnings and they were actually adding up. Though it was slow earnings, I was okay with that. It really motivated me to continue with my writing and really started to pay attention to my hubs making sure that they were in proper format and all that stuff. I wrote mainly about stuff that I was interested in but what I felt like others would be interested in as well, like arts and craft tutorials, link to tutorials etc. I put A LOT of energy into it almost every single day. So, the other day I checked my email and all of the sudden I get this email:

Subject : Google Adsense Account Disabled

After reviewing our records, we've determined that your AdSense account
poses a risk of generating invalid activity. Because we have a
responsibility to protect our AdWords advertisers from inflated costs due
to invalid activity, we've found it necessary to disable your AdSense
account. Your outstanding balance and Google's share of the revenue will
both be fully refunded back to the affected advertisers.

Please understand that we need to take such steps to maintain the
effectiveness of Google's advertising system, particularly the
advertiser-publisher relationship. We understand the inconvenience that
this may cause you, and we thank you in advance for your understanding and
cooperation.

If you have any questions or concerns about the actions we've taken, how
you can appeal this decision, or invalid activity in general, you can find
more information by visiting
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=57153.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team

I have done a MAJOR edit to this hub because the original was filled with a lot of disappointment and anger at adsense because I thought they had wrongfully closed my account. Since they have now reinstated it, I am not sure what to do now... as I still feel strongly that what happened was wrong. I never wanted to discourage anyone from being affiliated with adsense but I did want to make other serious writers aware of what had happened to me.

What I can do is share my experience and that is that on 2/14/2011 I got an email that my account was disabled for invalid click activity (email above) I felt the reason was vague and they would not expand on the reason for terminating my account. I then appealed and the appeal was denied BUT I have received an email on 3/2/2001 stating that they have reversed their decision and are in fact reinstating my account. As I stated in this hub (before the edit) I was very angry and hurt over this and now, since this has happened, it leaves me confused, wondering why all this happened in the first place.

So for whatever reason (still don't know) my account was posing a risk for invalid click activity so they disabled it. Maybe disabling doesn't necessarily mean closing for good? Anyway, they disabled it and then re-reviewed the records and made the decision (a few weeks later) it didn't pose a risk for invalid click activity so they have now reinstated it?  From what I've read about invalid click activity there is pretty much nothing I could have done to prevent it and there's no way anyone could have come in and logged into my account and clicked on my ads unless a someone broke into my house, logged onto my account and clicked on the ads.  It's a big question mark but I sure hope it doesn't happen again.

If nothing else this has made me more aware of needing to pay attention to all the details like eCPM and things like that and also I plan to start paying more attention to other details of my account besides just the earnings. I just sure do hope that this doesn't happen again to me or anyone else. This whole thing has been really stressful but what I can say for adsense is they did the right thing and reinstated my account.

Great News! My Adsense is back up and running. Wooo Hooo!

It turns out that my Hosted Adsense account years ago was never truly fully approved. There was nothing in their system and I used the email address I had previously used for adsense and it was approved. Weird since I had a publishers account. I remember I had just become a member back then and didn't have much content. What a jumbled mess, but it is all better now.

Heather- I'm sorry to hear that has happened. I remember how I felt and it really was hard. Though I am truly, truly grateful my account was re-instated, I know that doesn't seem to be the case for many. Out of curiosity, what was the reason they disabled your account? Good luck to you :)

I was just notified by Hubpages today that my Ad-earnings program was not active. Which I thought was weird. Then I saw that Adsense had disabled my account. I put in an appeal today. Wish me luck. I will be crushed if they deny me. I joined Hubpages over 6 years ago, now I'm back and writing more content again. I was getting excited about increasing my earnings. Now I'm sad.

GirlsTalk- HI... sorry this happened to you :( When this happened to me, I wrote and filed an appeal (I think it was called) and told them I was innocent but I was emailed back and told the appeal was denied.. However a few weeks later, I was contacted by email and it stated they had made a decision to re-instate my account. Surely if they see you are innocent, they will give you another chance.. Best of luck to you :)

I also just had my adsense disabled for inappropriate clicks, and I understand your disappointment. My clicks worked out at only 1 click per thousand pages. I had 14 clicks in 5 months and 14000 pages viewed. I just told them that I hardly thought 3 clicks a month over 14,000 pages could hardly be called excessive. I certainly didn't click any of the adverts either, so I'm hoping to have account reinstated also. Did you say the first time they said they wouldn't reinstate, but then changed their mind and reinstated your account?

That is awesome! So glad it's working for you and that your sis is doing good as well and I'm sure she will reach payout soon... a lower payout threshold is a huge motivator. So glad to hear from you! Keep up the great work :)

Aww...thanks Jamie! My sister has also a few hubs on Squidoo, but she is focusing more on her blogs. We have monetized our blogs with other ad networks such as Chitika and Infolinks. Both have much lower payout thresholds compared to Adsense, but we haven't reached them yet.

After I got an email from Squidoo telling me that they had sent me my first payment, I was really surprised! My sister got excited so she started transferring more hubs to her Squidoo account too (At first she got discouraged to write on Squidoo because she couldn't publish some of her articles there. Squidoo has different set of rules from HP.). Anyway, I hope that she will reach her first payout soon.:)

Hi there! So great to "see" you!! I am really happy to hear that you are still writing and I hear Squidoo is another great site, one of the few that are comparable to HP.. So glad to hear you are having success but it's not surprising because you are a great writer and you definitely deserve it! Any money earned is awesome.. there is no feeling like getting that payout. Just keep on writing and your earnings will surely grow :) Best of luck to you... how is your sis? I'm going to stop over at Squidoo sometime and see you :)

Hello Jamie! It's been a while since I last commented here. I just want to let you know that I'm now earning a bit even without my Adsense.:) I have transferred some of my hubs to Squidoo and I have reached my first payout in June this year. I reached my payout two more times after that.:) It's really not much (especially compared to what I earned in Adsense), but I'm still glad because the earnings had already been transferred to my Paypal account, which means that I can spend the money now! I'm in the process of learning more about Squidoo. I miss HubPages and everyone here, but I'm glad that I found Squidoo. I can still continue to write and earn a bit from it.:)

kai0224liu- Welcome to HubPages. I went over to have a look at your hubs to see what might be the problem and I think it's because you only have one hub written. I believe they have tightened their criteria and are requiring applicants to have multiple, good quality hubs written. I would write some more hubs and then re-apply. You can re-apply can't you? Best of luck to you!

I got disapproved either, they said it does not meet their criteria.

rajan jolly- Thank you for the votes.. I really appreciate that! I am happy you said this hub was a morale booster because that is exactly why I wrote it. I really wanted people to know it's possible to get your account back. It sounds like you are on the right track and should have approval soon :0) Thank you for reading my story and commenting... I'm wish you the very best and thank you again for stopping by!

jamiebrock, congrats on having your Adsense a/c reinstated. My a/c has been diasapproved twice probably because I am from a country for which google has put a 6 months active account condition. I am still waiting for the period to get over. In the meantime I ame writing regularly and try to follow all conditions of compliance to Google's terms. I hope I get the approval soon.

Your hub is a morale booster to those whose accounts are on hold.

Voted up and useful.

This is really a great hub. Last month, one of my friend kept on asking me about this when his adsense account was disabled but I couldn't answer him. I hope your hub and google adsense support answers would help him out.

Kulsum Mehmood- I'm sorry you are having a hard time getting your account approved. I've heard of that happening to others as well. Unfortunately, I really can't tell you what to do as I am not really sure. You may want to go to the AdSense forums and ask there. I'm sure someone can guide you and tell you what may be the problem. Best of luck to you!
