What You 'Need' To Make Money On Hubpages

Source

Many hubs have been written on the subject. Many hubs give advice on how to make money on this site and what you need to do to make that money. You will most likely read about content creation, keywords, backlinks and general SEO.

Though I know that many hubs have already been written on the subject I believe I have something to offer on said subject. I believe without these key ingredients you will not make it on HP no matter how much you know about SEO and the internet.

I am not saying that SEO and so forth isn’t important, because it is. What I am saying it takes more than internet savvy to make money and here are my key ingredients.

Time

Making money on Hubpages is not something you can do if you don’t make the time to do it. You need to allot time in your day for your Hubpages account. You can do this in your spare time but you need to be consistent with it. You cannot neglect your account and expect it to make you money.

Patience

This is probably the most important ingredient in this recipe. You cannot make money on a revenue sharing site like this overnight. It times time which you need patience for. It’s going to take some time for your articles to get organic traffic. It’s going to take some time to take off and bring in consistence traffic from outside sources and it’s going to take time for the impressions to build.

This, my friend requires you to be patient. But while you are being patient you need to continue to write and publish, and that is where the time you allot will tie in to the patience of waiting.

Knowledge

Writing online

You need to have some idea what you are doing and how to do it. Decide the route you want to take and go for it. If you didn’t know what it took to write online then learn. If you are new to this online game you need to learn the difference between writing for online audiences and print.

You do not need extensive SEO knowledge just the basics such as how to write a title and what keywords are. That’s it. You don’t need to know about keyword percentages and tags. You don’t need to backlink because Google does not like artificial backlinks. People who find your articles interesting will automatically link to them.

Hubpages

Not only should you learn about writing online but also what is required to write on the site. You need to learn about Hubpages, their policies and guidelines; what works and what doesn’t; which articles are best suited for the site and what will last a time.

Revenue

You need to also learn about revenue sharing and what it entails. How much money you get per impression and what all the expressions concerning CPM and CPC means.

In addition you need to learn what Adsense is, their policies and how to maintain your good standing with them. For any content revenue sharing site you will need Adsense as it’s is the primary means of advertising online.

You need to also lean the different ways you can make money on Hubpages such as eBay ads, Amazon products, HP referrals and so forth. It’s not going to be easy making money but at least you will have options.

Source

Execution

It’s all good and well you have patience, time and knowledge but without proper execution you may fail. I realize that when I started out I was not executing properly. Making sure your articles are worthy of an audience is very important. You can have the right title, very good keywords and all the patience in the world, if your article is boring and lacking vital information you are doomed to fail.

It takes more than just words on paper. It takes a bit of creation to put the words in the right context which will flow on the computer screen. You may have all the right information but if they are jumbled and hard to decipher, your viewers will not read through. Organizing your article well will result in proper execution and more impressions.

Do you need help earning on Hubpages?

  • No

Perseverance

If you are a good writer you run the risk of your articles being scraped from HP. Hubpages is a high profile site with little plagiarism protection. You the author are solely responsible for the defense of your own work. It will take a bit of perseverance in order to deal with all the thieves which will hassle you.

You have several choices when this happens. You can ignore them; remove your articles or fight back. If you choose to fight back you will have to do so constantly, never ceasing.

Conclusion

The solution is pretty simple yet difficult. It’s not easy and will take some amount of determination. There are times you will feel like you want to give up but you can’t. If you really want to make it you won’t give up. It’s a constant fight; continual disappointment with little reprieve but at the end of the day when that first paycheck is sent through PayPal you will realize it was all worth it.

Keep fighting because you are not alone here.

Peace out!

Thank God making money is not my goal on HP because if it was I would be a miserable failure. LOL Good suggestions here my friend. Everything you say is true for those looking to make some passive income.

Hi Billy, many people have it all wrong. They think that keywords and backlinks are all it takes. Then when the money doesn't come in they start to complaint. Some have no idea what it really takes.

I think patience is definitely the key when it comes to earning on Hubpages. The only time I get a little frustrated is seeing my views drop dramatically, even though the amount of time I put into my articles hasn't changed. Your article mentions a few things I have yet to learn, though, so perhaps it's time to go back the drawing board and shake things up a bit with my Hubpages routine with a bit more knowledge on how to write effectively online. Great advice!

Hi Lisa, everything takes time and patience here on HP. Take your time to learn and not rush things. Sometimes the articles we write from the heart are the best ones yet. I find that the articles I wrote on a whim are my best. So don;t worry too much about SEO and so forth.

Good article. I definitely takes work and perseverance. Neglect those hubs even for a moment and watch your scores and earnings. Since I have to eat, I have to do other writing and come back to HP for visits and interesting reading.

This article is a really good resource. Voted up.

Hi Cyndi. I write elsewhere as well but cannot neglect my articles here. Even a little tweaking here and there makes a lot of difference.

Thanks for stopping by, Have a wonderful evening.

Cardisa, you could write a whole series on this subject - seriously please do it. I love your frank and honest thoughts. So many sites hint at what it takes to be successful, but don't spell it out. I need a blueprint cause I'm tired of the guesswork.

Hello Clara, Welcome to Hubpages. After reading a few forum posts and detecting the frustration of hubbers I decided to do this hub. I do have other hubs on freelancing and making money online. Making money online is different from print because you get paid upfront for print. The publisher is paid by the advertiser before the print goes out regardless of how many prints are sold. Online it's different because you must wait for someone to read your work before getting paid.

Seems it's harder to make money here than Squidoo. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it before I go broke. BTW, really liked your Korea articles. I lived there a while (military brat) and love Korean food and have been addictted to Korean soaps since before they were popular over here. I think you're dead on. I wrote one here on Dae Jang Geum. I like what you did with the pics & copyright. Guess I need to surf forums for more ideas.

Feel free to drop any knowledge on Hubpages you care to share!

Clara

Clara, I did two Korean articles. Are you referring to the one on Korean Beauty or the Gorgeous Actors?

If you have any problems or questions just drop me a line, don't be afraid.

Very nice hub, Cardisa. It is great to see someone giving the importance to the most important factor - patience and time! It is important to stick to HubPages for at least a year or so to make something out of it. Not only one's skills require a bit of time to adjust in the highly-competitive online writing world, but hubs, too, require a lot of time to mature in the search engine rankings.

Voted up and useful!

What You 'Need' To Make Money On Hubpages sounds a positive way the key to making money in writing online is the use of proper key word search and off-course patience is the number one aspect I have been writing online for over six years and have earned substantially great points and well suggested.

Hello Hunbbel. WHat many people don;t realize is that this is not a quick money making scheme. If they want to succeed online it takes time and patience along with a few other factors. thank you for your comment.

Yes, I believe patience is the key to making money whether it's online or otherwise. Everything takes time but without patience you will not succeed. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Thanks! Great hub! I just wish it was easier to get an adsense account. I'm getting a lot of traffic, just wish I could make a little extra money from it.

Cardisa profile image

Cardisa 3 years ago from Jamaica Author

Abetterwaylive, when I started out online it was pretty easy to get an Adsense account. I started blogging with blogger so it was a breeze. Now the rules have changed immensely but you must be patient. You are from the US so you may be approved much quicker than the norm. I would recommend at least 20 more hubs and maybe a blog in order to be approved much faster.

Google doesn't even contact me any more when I file a DMCA...I think they literally just remove things instantly now when I file one. I'm really happy about how well they take care of that stuff.

Cardisa profile image

Cardisa 2 years ago from Jamaica Author

Hi Wesman I think Google has some idea of who are the good guys. Usually my articles are removed ASAP when I file with them. The last time was last week and they didn't even email me. When I tried to visit the blog in question, the entire thing was removed.

Thanks for this positive approach. At the beginning I was not even aware that you could earn money by writing content, I joined in order to promote my novels. Now 6 month later I'm on a mission to take a year to see if my hard work has paid off. 6 month to go and then I see.

Cardisa profile image

Cardisa 2 years ago from Jamaica Author

Hi Nadine. When I joined HP i was set on posting poetry and fiction. Then I started writing cooking tips..lol I almost gave up when everyone else was talking about making money and f traffic and so on. Then I decided to try my hand at articles and it paid off. I did have some experience writing print articles so my titles were dynamic but not search friendly. I had to learn SEO fats but it was worth it.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you see great results within the year. Good luck!

Nadine, I really enjoyed your positive, up-lifting article. I am new, an old Squid, and I have to say I'm lovin' it here. I started on Squidoo to introduce my elementary art blog, Kids & Glitter, to teachers who had to teach their own art classes. But, it didn't take long before I wanted to share other ideas. It's been slow, but I'm gaining speed, and readers. Thanks for this great article. Every newbie should read it to get started in a positive way.
