   What is the importance of commenting back to the comments left on a hub you wrote?
   
   Should we comment back to people who have left a remark on an article you have written?  Is it really necessary?

   It's a matter of preference for everyone. I think commenting back and forth is a healthy way to discuss the essay with the author. I feel there is nothing wrong with debate or discussion in that sense.

   I always do. In fact, I respond to each one individually. There is nothing that says you must, but I find that I stop commenting on hubs by authors who never answer comments. Some people will respond to a bunch of people in one comment post in a general way, and that I don't mind either. But if I expect people to be return readers, I know I am going to have better success if I answer every comment.  If not, then why bother having a comment section at all? I know there are some people who don't because they don't want them.

   I think it shows that the writer is engaged and truly cares about his/her readers. I know that if I take the time to write a comment, it's always really good to know that it was read and what better way to be acknowledged? In addition to that, I have read some good/best practice advice from blog "gurus" and I have seen several state that commenting back is a great way to help generate return readers. It just helps to create a community and doing that can help increase your traffic.

   I tried to do that in the beginning, but there were times when people would just say "great hub, voted up" etc. Or they said something that I couldn't really respond to other than to say "thanks for sharing". I stopped commenting back after that. If someone genuinely has a question on one of my hubs or starts a discussion, I'll comment back. Otherwise, unless something other than 'thanks' can be said, I don't comment back on every person who comments on my hubs.
   
   That's probably some community faux pas on here, but oh well. If someone is disheartened that I'm not saying 'thank you' for the six or seven words they left, then I would have been better off not having their vote or comment in the first place.

   If they leave anything to work off of, I think it's extremely important -- it gets the conversation going, or keeps it going. This is great for bringing your readers back again and again, and Google likes to see it. It also lets your readers know that there really is someone there to talk to, you're not just someone in a third-world country hired to repost something all over the internet. Which would you rather do -- read an article that gives similar information to a hundred others on the internet and be done with it, or have the ability to ask questions about the topic or get some context on the author?
