Following an excessive amount of hubbers can lower your hub score. However, how many you follow within one day isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially if you're a new hubber. Just don't follow people expecting them to follow you back. Doing that constantly will result in you having a huge amount of hubbers that you follow and can lower your hub score. Best of luck!
It can be depending on why you're following them.
People who follow a lot of hubbers in a span of twenty four hours make me leery. Are they following them because they generally find those people interesting? Or because they want to get followed back?
If you're following them because you genuinely want to see their hubs and whatnot on your feed, then I don't see the problem. But if you're doing it to get the follow back and gain your own following, then yes, it's bad.

My Author Score has dropped from 91 to 84 over the last month or so. It's been dropping particularly fast in the last couple of weeks, despite recently publishing 2 popular hubs, daily hubhopping and commenting etc. Any suggestions for why this might be happening and what I can do about it?...

Before following someone, at least you should read his/her hub or profile. I think, there are many reason rather than his or her beautiful face to follow him/her.

Hi All, So, this might not seem in the spirit of hub pages comeraderie, but I am a little uncomfortable with having a particular member follow me. The name is ZAGOOTO, and he has no profile information, no hubs, but 11 followers. Who on earth is this person? Why is he "following" people...
