Why are there so many questions that directly violate the rules of asking questions?

To be more specific, all of these "personal" questions and such that are suppose to be directed to the forums for polls and votes. Am I misunderstanding the rules, or are they just not being flagged? "Discourages purely personal answers. Surveys, polls, and questions encouraging back-and-forth discussion should be posted in the forums, rather than the Q&A." directly from the page you have to agree to before asking questions, yet almost every question in here seems to fit that description specifically...

I think it is just simply people do not read the instructions.  I have had questions flagged and removed because they really belonged in the forums... But at that time I did not understand the forums and I avoided them.  If you ask many hubbers do you want to ask a questions? or do you want to start a forum?  most would ask the question.... In fact this question you have asked may actually be better served in a forum... since it promotes a discussion rather than just the opportunity to provide a single answer...

I think that it can be quite difficult to ask a question without promoting a discussion of some kind. I've asked questions, on the 'Answers' really believing that it was not personal, a poll or deliberately invoking a discussion, but it was removed anyway. Other answers that openly promoted discussion were left. So I guess it may be down to how the individual monitor sees the questions and whether or not the think they are suitable. Besides all that, there are quite a number of hubbers who don't like the forums, they find them too aggressive - personally I think the forums are fun, but you do get some hubbers who are there just to wind people up and obviously get enjoyment out of being rude, but this can put a lot of people off.

HP don't have enough staff to monitor every question in real time.  They rely on hubbers flagging questions they see that break the rules.

HP is generally a pretty good community.

yeah, the lack of staff seems to be the one reason but I guess it is the asker themselves who don't even read the instructions or rules.

I have to agree with davenmidtown, I think most people just don't read the instructions. Some people might understand the instructions, but just feel more comfortable asking a question then starting a forum.

It's a contradiction in its self, when a child starts asking why?  Yeh but... Why? And it goes on and on no matter what you answer they want to know why , their interested and want to talk, this teaches the child to be inquisative and encourages conversation with strangers for when their older, which brings me to you question

If someone replys to a question someone has asked there is room for the inner child to ask but why???  Thus encouraging the built in want for knowledge but to acquire this we have to enter into a dissccution (probably spelt at wrong)  but to first enter a discussion someone has to ask a question (or make a statement).

    Hope that helps?

rules should be short, precise, and easily to understand. KISS - keep it simple short.
