   When you read a friend's hub and leave comments, do you read the comments other Hubbers have left?
   
   I have noticed that some comments add to or put a hub in a different light, but what I have noticed too is that many commentators just concentrate on the hub. I was wondering why it happens like that? Is it okay to address a comment on a hub if you are just a commentator or are you supposed to take it to the forums or do a hub about it or confront the commentator?

   Yes!  I often find that there can be some really great additional information those comments.   
   
   I think addressing what another commentator said may depend upon the situation.  If done very positively, it can create a stimulating conversation that helps the author draw more people to the hub.

   When I post a comment on a hub, I always direct the comment to the Hubber.  I understand that it is a public forum, but the only one I know for sure will read it is the Hubber.
   
   I usually read the comments before adding my own, to make sure I am not saying the same thing everyone else is saying, and to pick up additional insights along the way.  But if the comment thread is too long, I may skip them and just add my thoughts before moving on.
   
   I would never confront a commenter on a hub.  It is not addressed to me.  It's not my hub.  They are entitled to their own opinion.  I let the Hubber decide how to handle the comments, since the Hubber can delete it if s/he wants.

   I think you can do what ever you feel comfortable with, if you think you can add to the discussion do it, if you just want to tell them thanks for great information do that. I have asked questions and made comments.  I have also seen really rude and arguementive comments on some of the hubs, and I have seen the rude comments directed at the hub author and/or others that comment on the hub, I will not respond to rude comments on anothers hub, I may point out that I will not comment on that as this is not my hub (if it rude and specifically directed at me), I will  try to keep to the topic at hand, depending on who wrote the hub, some don't want the comments to drift off the topic and some don't care.  It's kind of like know your hubber I guess.
   I am new enough here that I can't answer anything about forums.

   The comment capsule is intended for commenting on the merits of the hub itself or the writing skills of the author, so most people will address a comment along those guidelines.  However, if the person who wrote the hub has a following, the comments may look more like friends running into each other at the mall.  Comments will have little to do with the topic of the hub and much to do with catching up and ribbing one another.
   
   By the same token, if the author and commenter have developed a friendship (or are related), that person's comment will likely have little to do with the topic.  As marywanders said, it's "know your hubber".
   
   If a particular comment put a hub in a different light that inspires you, by all means write your own hub on that insight!  And spread the joy by mentioning in that hub who inspired it!

   Most times I read the other hubbers' comments. I find that I can learn from them many times so it's worth the extra time to do so.
