They make the reader more willing to read if there is a picture on the screen, and pictures are worth a thousand words

I would agree with Koby in that pictures definitely help to break the page up and make it more eyeball-friendly.
Yeah, what Koby and cosmetics author said. You can always go back and edit a page. Break up text into several capsules, so HubPages can better scatter AdSense ads around. Use the other capsules, pictures like the others said, and some Amazon books, maybe even a video appropriate to your HubPage, maybe a poll.
A little trick is in a poll, have one of the alternatives be essentially non-applicable, but have the alternatives invite a comment if the choices you give them are not what they like. I am going to try to work that in, where it may be appropriate, in my future poll capsules.
