Is writing online really worth the effort?
Many of us spend a lot of our spare time, some full time, writing online, participating in social networks and asking and answering questions. Do you sometimes feel you are wasting your time, that you may be earning less than minimum wage or you just do it for the love of writing?
I absolutely know I'm wasting my time. If I manage to type something that someone else takes some joy or something from - then that is very good, but so far as income is concerned - this is the biggest waste of time imaginable for most of us.
Oh I well intend to keep at it some - but time spent and income received....I'm working, literally, for a bowl of rice per day.
I'm not saying I don't enjoy this - but its not the way to make money. Not for a user of the service. You dang sure can't base your bills or your life around it.
It all depends on how you go about it, and whether or not you're marketing and monetizing properly. For myself, I know for a fact that I'm not wasting my time -- I write full-time and support my stay-at-home husband and three kids.
I have a close business associate who literally spends thousands of dollars taking college courses to keep his mind sharp.
I don't make money at this, I consider it one of my volunteer activities because it is a subject I feel strongly about.
For me, the writing is secondary, I LOVE research. I will do all the research anyway so why not share it and continue to learn from others?
Having stated that I will also share it is possible to earn a living online. If you are good writer and IF you are dedicated and lastly if you find your writer's voice. By writer's voice, two items must be fundamental - you are passionate about your topic and you have a laser sharp focus.
I just do it for the love of writing. I do it with a lot of Enthusiasm as it very useful, helpful & enjoyable.
I really hope to make some money at this one day, but for now I'm really enjoying myself writing, reading and learning. I think people who really understand how to market themselves and take the time to do it properly do make money here, my problem is I only have so much time to spend on the laptop, and I'd rather be researching or writing than out there creating backlinks etc. I'm optimistic I'll get there one day, but until then, I'm happy with a bowl of rice... :-)
If you have the passion to write than it is worth it just because you have that passion for it. Though once that passion turns into work than it becomes more of a pain to do it, if you don't allow that passion to become work than it is well worth the time and effort.
I do beleive one of the hardest parts of writing is attempting to make it so other people reading it will like it and want to read it.
Communication is what we do, it is programmed into us along with eating and procreation. Online just means that more people, those who you would never otherwise have a hope of meeting, can hear what you have to say... If only for a brief moment.
I write with purpose. It's not about "making it" as much as it is "making it happen" to me - I write to share my creativity, I write to express myself and my interests, I write to amuse others and myself, but I also write to offer a positive outlook towards making the world a better place.
S. Says -
I write solely with one initial to my name as an experiment. I am not here to just make money or to feed my ego. That's why my picture isn't even up here. Chris and I are writing because we are dedicated to getting the truth out there so we can help others.
I love writing. It is my friend, my confidante and my therapy. I know that if I was writing for money, my feelings might change. There is a lot of pressure attached to that and I am almost positive I would encounter blocks immediately.
Writing, for me, is a time to be free, to write what I feel, what I want, my dreams, nightmares and more. Now that I have found it, I will never let it go.

I've seen a lot of people say no, but I've also seen people saying they are making money through HubPages. So which is it?

I love to write, and I'm seeking a platform within which to condense and organize my thoughts, and through which to appeal to those who may have an interest in what comes from my heart and mind. I may actually end up with a legitimate article or two. In any case, I appeal to Hubdom with...

Aside from the classic "Write good Articles" what is the best way to get backlinks? My top two articles get half their traffic from Pinterest. I make a Top 10 list and just go down the list and pin the photos at the end. And are backlinks worth the trouble? I used to make websites like 8...
