What is the legality/ethics of mentioning other Hubbers in a Hub...nicely, of course?
The Learning Center did not really tell me, unless I missed it....thanks, gang!
hi Civil War Bob,
I actually make a habit of grabbing unsuspecting Hubbers and placing them in my stories. I, of course, make every attempt to be nice and polite but sometimes my story lines are a bit raw. Everyone has (so far) been very good spirits about it.
I have mentioned other hubbers hubs and given links to the specific hub on several occasions.
Since HubPages is a community website I personally see no problem directing people to other hubs by authors that may be of interest.
Be careful not to copy a lot of other hubbers text however, unless you firast seek permission, that is plagiarism if there is no consent on the part of the original author.
On the face of it, mentioning other hubbers in a positive light seems a good thing. We can post fan mail on profile pages so why not in hubs?
Great question. I will follow this to see others insights.
As long as you do not misquote them or write anything libelous, I don't see a problem, either ethically or legally, However, whenever I quote someone I always let them know I am going to quote them. On my Facebook page for my dog training business I make it a practice to not mention names unless I am praising someone or endorsing them.
I was hub-hopping one night and read an article about applying the Japanese principle of Kaizen to many areas of personal life. I thought, "I should write a hub about using this idea to increase Hub earnings." So I mentioned that to the hubber, and then I wrote my hub and added an anchored link to his hub.
Ain't nothing wrong with that, but as noted already...be careful about quoting other hubbers' work without permission or putting other hubbers down. That's not cool.
To quote or use someone else's work without crediting them would be plagiarism...illegal. And to talk trash about someone without warrant is libel...also illegal. But to simply mention another hubber and link to their work..."nicely"...all good.
If anyone wants to try it out, feel free to mention me and link nicely to my hubs anytime haha! Aloha, y'all...
The Learning Center suggests linking to other hubs if they have quality content that your reader might be looking for. It makes the entire community stronger. Not to mention that if your reader follows the link it will help out your fellow hubber as well.
As long as you're not saying anything mean I don't see a problem with it.
If I find a similar hub related to mine just before I publish it, I would add a link of that hubber's hub onto mine giving that hubber some extra points when the link is opened, viewed and read by someone and somewhere else. If I am ecstatic about including a Hubber's name onto my hub because of his/her wonderful article that kind of coincides with my hub topic that is still under progress, I would definitely, politely ask permission for approval with the addition of giving the other hubber a credit through linking its hub before sending off my own hub for publication.

I'd like to suggest we get rid of Hubber Score - and perhaps even Hub Scores. They:- are constantly misunderstood;- cause a lot of upset and grief in the forums; and- encourage newbie Hubbers to direct their efforts in entirely wrong directionsFor instance, I've known newbie Hubbers stop...

I know that you can choose to display your idle hubs on your profile page, but I don't, because I don't want Google to see them at all and get confused by all those "do not follow." What this means is that my idle hubs are not available for anyone to see, and I have to actively...

All of us that have visited the question section know that much of the content there is of very questionable quality. It's difficult to see how many of the questions really contribute to the community or discussion on HubPages at all, ranging as they do from mediocre to banal.Of course, there are...

I am posting here because it's the only place I am allowed to mention a hub. I have mentioned a number of other Hubbers in my hub, but they probably won't read it. I can't write them all fan mail to tell them they are in it, and they may either not care, or be annoyed, or be...

I am completely new to article writing. I would like to know how the grammar is. How bad is my punctuation? Scale of 1-10 for my first article? Please and thank you.
