What is the appropriate amount of "tags" for a hub?

   What is the appropriate amount of "tags" for a hub?
   
   AS I search for an answer to this question I find everything from 3-5 tags as well as up to 15 which I feel could be looked at as spam.

   Depending on the article I use around 10. Though for some articles there are only a couple tags you can use that are relevant. But I use a lot more tags in my book list hubs because I like to list all the author names as a tag.

   I'm in the second group of people participating the the Apprenticeship Program and we have been told that 10 tags is about the most you want to use.

   I don't see how the principle of more the better doesnt apply here but that is probably more my short-sightedness more than anything, am i missing something? doesnt more tags mean increased reach?

      If the tags aren't relevant it will confuse the search engines as to what your about. You want to keep it short and simple for better results.

   Hubpages recommends 10. You don't want to overdo it. If a visitor finds your hub via a tag, then finds it is not the desired material, that reader will progress to the next article... and Google will record a short visit.
   
   That short visit makes the Googlebot think you're article is low quality or uninteresting.

   I try to use no more than 6 tags. I like the 3 - 5 number because I base my tags on the keyword research I've done. Typically, I'll have a main keyword and a couple of secondary keywords, and if I've done a good job targeting the right keywords, then this number should be sufficient. Before I knew anything about keyword research, I would load my hubs with tags, thinking, more is better. But now, I've started going through them and eliminating tags that really aren't necessary.
