Does a question with "Best Answer" already awarded make you less likely to answer?
I've seen lately that there are quite a few questions with "Best Answer" given out in less than an hour. I sometimes wait weeks before I choose.
While I don't think about getting "best answer" when I answer a question, I have to admit when I see a best answer chosen so soon--I do tend to pass on answering that question.
Yeah, I like the old system better - that at least allows other users to vote up the most accepted answer to the top, as this method promotes personal bias via the one who asks the original question (like selecting the best answer due to friendship).
The whole Best Answer thing confuses me. Often people jump right on an answer as soon as they get one. I like to let as many folks as want to answer get in on it and then I decide which I like the most. Except in this case.
Yeah, I've seen that very same thing happen on here several times. If it's at least a semi-interesting query, I'll answer it anyway, but it does sort of emit the whole "this question is closed" vibe, when seeing such things.
Hey, I was almost the first to answer this question... Act quickly and vote me as the "best answer" before the others come in! Just kidding... LOL!
Dang, this was easier than I thought; thanks! Ha!
Ask and ye shall receive. But don't ask for my chocolate - that might get you something you really don't want!
Not at all. They asked for an opinion, so I give them one even if they have chosen their favorite. My opinion is different than theirs so it might be better from their perspective.
I applaud you. Even though I've already thrown the best answer for this question because I'm ridiculous, I hope people still answer it.
No, best answer doesn't hinder me from giving my views on a question, i think other views or opinion to the question may encourage readership as well as alternative solutions.
I will usually only answer in this scenario if there's something I can really add to the conversation. I like your point about encouraging readership, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.
Sometimes, if no answer really stands out, I never choose a best answer. However, to answer your question, I am not dissuaded from answering a question when a "Best Answer" has already been chosen. This is especially true if the best answer was chosen very quickly.
I've done that, not choosing a best answer. I've gotten good ones though after weeks or even months.
I don't answer questions just because I might be awarded the 'best answer' but when it's already been picked it does seem like the person who asked is finished with that question and isn't too interested in any more responses. I normally wait a couple of weeks, or until the answers stop coming in, to choose the best answer so that I don't inadvertently put anyone off answering.
It might, but I recently saw a question with a "best answer" where the answer (according to HubPages terms) was actually wrong.... so I had to answer.
I usually wait quite a while, before deciding.
I think we should be able to retract and reassign the "best answer" if a better reply comes through.

I apologize, but it seems a "Best" answer was chosen on my question when I did not choose it. I hope the HP Team can help me or someone can inform me why that happened! I noticed it via my phone and I knew that I did not choose an answer and I was not going to do so any time...

Do you ever answer a question even after the Best Answer has been chosen?I enjoy providing an answer to questions at times but sometimes there are already many answers, and decide not to. Have you ever given an answer to a question with many answers or even though the Best Answer was already picked?

How do you feel when someone has chosen the Best Answer to his own question? Before the option of choosing the best answer was introduced, I felt that all answers are important and interesting because the mystery of what author of the question thought made it open for thought. Now, every time...

Do you think people are getting less hits because they pick a "Best Answer" too soon?I admit, many times I will pass answering a question that has a best answer chosen because I sometimes assume that the asker does not intend to re-visit their question once they pick. I know, answers are...
