Finding non-copy right pictures for your hub
I usually go to google and do an advance search with the license set to free for photos. The pickings are pretty slim. I know some pictures have been plastered all over the net while others are historical and many years old. I have heard horror stories about using copy righted photos but I think those stories are over blown. Let me be clear. I don't want to "steal" the personal work of a individual photographer but what if that photo is all over the web or the photo is of a famous person or place that was taken many years ago?
Technically, that'd still be using a copyrighted photo without the person's consent, even though you may see it everywhere else.
Do a Google search for Common Commons photos. You'll find sites with photos you can legally use in your hubs, as long as you properly attribute them. See the Learning Center's entry for properly attributing photos.
It's smart not to use pics without knowing the copyright status. Even if its a famous person all over the web its still copyright infringement. You'd probably get away with it, and many people do, but that doesn't make it okay. Best to assume anything you find is copyrighted unless noted otherwise.
You're right; going through Google image search is usually the long way around. I use wikimedia commons (the license will tell you what you're allowed to do with it), freedigitalphotos(dot)net, MorgueFile, and Pixabay most often.
You can also check government sites, as work done by government employees in the line of duty is in the public domain. But be sure before you use, because some pics on govt websites are used with permission (not done by govt employees).
Old pics taken before 1923 are usually in the public domain.
It's not always easy to find the right pics for our Hubs, and all to simple too just snag them from google image search, but IMO if we want people to respect our copyright for our writing we need to start by respecting other artists.
I use wikimedia commons. There is a great selection there. I am lucky in a sense because I write hubs about politics and history. There are many government photos that I can use for those articles that are in the public domain.
Ugh. Might I need to revisit my hub photos? I get my photos from Google Image Search. I always give the source in the caption. Is that enough? Maybe I misunderstood the rule.

I noticed a Hubpage which suggested ripping off original content and putting it on a blog with adsense to make money. It suggested that you could use the same method to make the content for a hubpage. I know that Google will ban adsense accounts for these copyright infringements. ...

I had written 35 hubs, featured 34 of them, but for the meantime, I have unpublished all of them. I have recently found out that using images from Google are not allowed, and sites like Getty and Corbis is suing a lot of bloggers over unknowingly using their pics. It is specially difficult for me...

I'm looking for sites to pull images from that won't get me into trouble here. I know about Wikipedia, but I'm wondering if any other sources are out there. For example, right now I'd like to find a picture of the muscles in your face, for a face-sculpting Hub I'm planning. Thanks,Zizish
