Why does our hub traffic drop so dramatically when they do a Panda update?

Can someone explain exactly what happens in simple terms and why? thanks!

I would like to know that too.  My top hub used to get over 125 views a day, but in the last weeks it is only getting 45 tops.  Makes no sense to me either Nell.

I also noticed my hubber score took a nosedive as well.  Yesterday it was 87, today it is 84.

I think that Google views HubPages as a bit of a spammy site - hence all of the constant changes and tweaks HP makes.  The fact that HP traffic takes a hard hit during every Panda update seems to suggest this is true as well.  It's all in how Google views a sites overall quality and those who spam or produce poor quality hubs etc. drag all of HP down with them.  The stronger hubs and subdomains seem to recover right away within a few weeks though I've noticed.

I hope I don't belong to those who drags HP down. My old account is also affected but not as much compared to this one. Maybe it also has to do with a hub account's age.

That doesn't make sense either.  5 years ago when this was all up and running HP had lots of views and not taken as spammy.  There were many great writers on here but when the modratrs chngd and the cmpny was sold that is when thngs took a nosedive.

Google algorithm updates the past several months also have a lot to do with it - I promise you they do.  It's a Google algorithm issue and typically it resolves itself over time and traffic comes back up.  Good time to revamp/update

Is there any way to find out when Google performs Panda updates?

They are typically not announced far in advance if at all.  "rumors" may go around, but google never really officially announces these latest updates until after the fact.

Evidently there was one today, but not totally sure on that.

It's an ongoing battle between HP and Google. Both want informative, well written content to prevail but because HP is an open kind of site - anyone can write about their passions and interests and this means many hubs are sometimes of dubious quality - any updates Google makes (Panda and Penguin for example) hit home hard and we all suffer. This latest algorithm has upset many writers but isn't as severe as that which hit in Sept/Oct?

What is an algorithm? Well, if you've got a mathematics degree you may have some idea! As far as I can tell it's a process whereby instructions are given to help produce an effective result!! It's all very complicated!

Basically it boils down to Google attempting to weed out poor quality writing. If we all created evergreen, perfectly grammatical hubs then these updates wouldn't affect HP so much. Imagine that, perfectly formed hubs every time! That would be suspicious!

It all depends on the strength of the sub domains as to recovery time, the better ones bounce back within a short length of time but some don't recover. I tend to like writing poems and other impractical hubs so I do get hit. Fortunately my hubs return to their former pages ( they have done so far!)
    Happy hubbing.

Hang on,  I have had hubs that were getting good traffic before the September update and then a drop in traffic afterwards. So one minute the hub was good quality and  the next it was not?   Something funny going on here.

I agree with Alex, why are they great one minute and not the next? I get the feeling that google takes it in turn to put stuff to the top, then drop it to put good or bad quality articles there but maybe have better ads?!

Every time Google panda updates and Google penguin most of websites are affected including blog sites. And this is normal. Views really dropped. As a hubber, I would just write what my heart dictates and will focus writing hubs for my readers not just for Search engines optimization.

Everything gets really complicated when google decides to update. I first started hubpages while google was in the middle of the last Panda update. I barely had any traffic till it was over, then things started to pick up.

The only thing I can suggest is that you wait to post new hubs till after google updates. But keep active through forums, questions, and of course reading other people's hubs!

My viewings have dropped dramatically in the last few months. Yesterday I had only 14 views for 64 well-written hubs, many of them stellar. Just now I did a search for one of my articles using my favorite search engine, which has always been great for research. I got pages and pages of "articles" that were really manufacturer's listings. (I contacted them and complained.) What the heck is happening?

I believe Google is just doing the reset and reprogramming to boost more traffic later. My friend told this process and I think he is an expert about this.
