If Internet article gets little traffic because subject is too broad, what action do you take?
Tackle a more specific subject. Say you wrote a hub about humming birds in general. Since that's too broad, you could choose a single species to write about, or perhaps popular garden flowers that attract them. Broad only works on wikipedia, or other well-established authoritative sites.
Are you sure that's the reason? If it is, then clearly the answer is to get more specific. Perhaps tackle the same broad subject but split it into several Hubs, each about a specific aspect.
If you are sure it is because the topic is too broad, then there are a few fixes.
1. Divide the topic into smaller, more concise sub-topics (instead of weather as a topic go for lightning, wind, or specific cloud types and how they help determine the weather for the day).
2. Relate the topic or subtopics to something else (i.e. glass = the science behind glassmaking, the art of glassmaking, recycling glass, reclaiming broken glass, types of glass service ware, the history of glass dinnerware).
3. Relate the topic to something local to you, like your state, region, or city (e.g. instead of geography why not try the Geography of Texas or the Geography of Houston and the East Coast of Texas. Instead of RIver Systems, try River Systems: the Brazos RIver in Eastern Texas.)

If you guys could take a look at my California vacation hub, I'd appreciate it. I've tried to do everything right with it -- arranged it so ads would be at the top, added some nice personal pics and links, I just added some RSS feeds ... and it's getting almost no traffic. My Staten Island hub is...

When you write, do you choose topics geared toward a broad audience? What elements of consideration do you employ before choosing a topic?
