Hubpages is a stand alone website, who let you write articles.
Adsense is a stand alone service (run by Google, but not directly affiliated with Google themselves), who let you earn money by placing advertisements.
Google is a search engine who want to provide the best answers to people searching.
Hubpages uses Adsense to help anyone who writes here make money, by displaying the Adsense ads. You can expect about $3-$5/1,000 views from combined earnings from Adsense, Hubpages Ad Program + other affiliates.
To get views, you need to learn to write so that when Google search visits your hub, it ranks you in Google for a topic people are searching. If there are LOTS of people searching that topic, chances are you won't rank high enough to get traffic. If NO ONE is searching that topic, it's pointless ranking in Google for it, because no one will visit then, either.
You need to write on niche topics that not many people are writing about but lots of people are Googling.
The older your hubs get, usually the more Google traffic they bring - I have a hub that got less than 5 Google hits a day for the first six months. Three years on, it's getting upwards of 1,500 views per day. I have plenty of other hubs which have done similar.
