What finally convinced you to do a 30/30 challenge or any other challenge on HubPages?

For the past two years I have considered doing one of these challenges to improve earnings and keep honing my creative-type writing (I consider anything outside my academic writing "creative"!). But I would hate not meeting the goal of 30 in 30 or people realizing I am procrastinating from my dissertation by doing more creative writing.

Hello Stephanie! Sharing on the run at a walk . . . First every day at HubPages is a challenge = giggle + giggle . . . and a smile. The 30/30 attracted me from the perspective of old westerns and a movie with James Stewart the actor of the film "It's a Wonderful Life." The western was about the 30/30 Winchester repeating rifle saving the west and stuff like that. Great Classic film.

Any way, being here near 2yrs I still desire to do the 30DC (not the comics=giggle). I tried 2 times and failed or was surprised, a choice. Yet, learning I realized for me I will do the 30DC soon, maybe next month. Some rules for myself are:

    Have a Plan:
    1) Write only on one subject or within one topic related choice
    2) Research Topic = Trend of Fashion of this or that (Gender? Entertainment? etc?)
    3) Trend should be best guess for 30 - 60 Days, will be the in thing and not a fading present trend, seeking green for a minimum of 2 Years shelf life
    4) Initial 10 Hubs the greenest = forest
    5) Next 10 hubs maybe fades = natural to my local region or where most of my traffic is as Google Analytics indicates easily
    6) Last 10 Hubs olive green = pitted and may be or may not be natural or easily substituted
    7) Measure in intervals steady and sure, navigate toward the destination of destiny as determined by goals and objectives
    8) Remember who, what, where, when, why, how, and How Much of . . .

Have a means for learning and practicing:
    A) Decide what it is that I desire to learn most, i.e, writing, editing, marketing, and etc.
    B) Write each day a new hub and let it be spontaneous, yet that topic, so not random
    C) Set a time limit for these: pondering, idea, hub development or plan, and then execution of the plan.

Note: In the past I had at most maybe 2 hours to do those. Today, on disabled list more time is available. Everyone is different. Modify if used as a guide per personal best and not necessarily what is best for me.

    The format:

    Minimum total words = 1,600
60/40 split content / context (Descriptors, Sub-Headings, Photo descriptors, etc.)
    >= 900 words, <+ 1,000 words = content
    Minimum 2 images
    Minimum 1 Video
Minimum 1 sub capsules = quiz, survey, map and etc
Seek Stellar as per the Learning Center description

Direct Marketing = Amazon & Ebay

Hook up with friends with stores at Ebay or sell on Amazon and seek their market research for topic ideas.

Focus on Marketing with the hub being a tool with information as the means of marketing those products

    Then, begin . . .

tsmog, I love the humor embedded, though overt, in your answer. You really have this 30/30 thing all planned out. I think we might have to make a pact to do this together next month: nothing like the buddy system. This is the push I need! You in?

Hello Stephanie! Well, I'm in on the 30Day Challenge. I will be seeking option #2 per the guidelines, updating old Hubs. I will explain the challenge at the thread post. I will be viewing the thread as documenting the process for others. Then, hope

Ok tsmog. I'm glad you found the guidelines. I will probably start my challenge week 2 of June. I will maybe go for like 20 hubs in 30 days. I'm glad we can now make our type of challenge! I will see you in the forums then smile

Hi Stephanie. I have already begun, yet not made an announcement as a forum post yet. Essentially I deleted until I now have only 28 active & Featured Hubs. I will explain the 5-W's & 2-H's at the Forum. Goal = Option #2 for each Hub by Month

Good for you tsmog. I will begin next week. This way I celebrate my birthday without wondering if I should publish a hub or not smile See you on the Forums.

I like you, StephanieBCrosby. You are a great hubber and you have heart of a winner. I have been motivated by your great love for Life to want to do the 30/30 thing next month myself. June is a busy month for me but I have made up my mind to accomplish this feat after seeing the smile on your face in your picture. Let's do it.
    Regards, Dr. Haddox

Well Dr. Haddox, it is a date! Thanks for the complements smile June is busy, but I can come up with many reasons that every month is busy. So, I guess I will celebrate my birthday 6/8 in hub-style. I am glad you are inspired. All in my friend!!!

I applied for the apprenticeship program but I here they are in the middle of revamping it.  I figure the goal of 8-12 hubs a month would be something I can make plus the earning potential is attractive.  I will have to look at the 30/30

Do look into the challenge. Right now Dr. Haddox and myself are going to do it in June. I'm still waiting to hear back from tsmog about June.

What is the min word limit per hub?  Plus do you have to do pics and videos?  Hubs have to relate 2 each other I guess?

StephanieBCrosbyposted 10 years agoin reply to this

The going length is about 250-300. 500 is more average for good earning hubs. You do not have to include pics and videos, but they help appeal, view time, & earning ability. Hubs do not need to relate, but grouping helps keep readers with your wo

Thank you.  I actually might be able to do that.  I normally have a goal to write 500 words a day and sometimes it is higher.  I will try for July

500 words a day is an awesome goal and habit. I know that in order to be a great writer you should write and read often. Let's just say no novel will be produced any time soon from me. I will look for your Forum posts in July. Good luck!

I did my first 30 day challenge about 3 months after joining. It was great - I learned how to speed up my output time and also stop watching my traffic like a hawk.

I think I've done four over the time I'm here (some hubs have since been deleted and one was on another account.) They've all been great learning experiences and have helped increase my traffic.

I think this is a great challenge and I would like to give it a try. All I need is planning and determination that I can do it. Creating the time is also important.

Agreed. I kept thinking, "If I plan hard enough it will work." But now I am just jumping in and will figure it out. After all, "The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry." So I am making the time happen. All else will follow! Join us in June.

I wonder if I cheat a bit and write a bunch of hubs ahead of time.  J. K. The only way I can poss do this is I take all my vacation time at once and that will have 2 wait til next year since I used all my time 4 this year

I am hoping that all the little scraplets of hub ideas I have will help me through the challenge. But I am sure plenty of people plan a but ahead and have at least an outline of some hubs to help get started before the challenge.

I have never for any challenges.  But I have created my own challenge and have won that by doing 10/10.  It is a good option for beginners and casual hubbers.  Anyhow still I have plan to do a 30/30 in the near future.  What blocks me is time as I have some other engagements like my profession, family, etc.

10/10 is an awesome start. I can empathize with a lot of obligations: I have two young kids only 15 months apart, 2 business LLCs, doctoral studies, regular work, etc. There are many reasons to not do a challenge at given times. But I'm jumping in.

Any challenge is just that, a challenge.  There  is no law saying you can't drop out if it is too much, and many have.  That being said when I signed up for my first 30/30 by the end of the first week I thought I was crazy!  However, I looked for things to write about in everything I saw and did and surprisingly I did it and had some pretty darn good hubs (if I say so myself). Another inspiration for hubs was the questions people ask in the forums.  I have a feeling you can do it with ease, and as they say "If at first you don't succeed...."
Give it a go, Stephanie, you won't be sorry.

I appreciate this advice coming from such an avid hubber. I do like your point that you do not have to complete the challenge. But I am a Type A personality, so if I start I have to finish in some way. The forums for ideas is a great tip. Thanks!

More is not always better.  I did that a few years ago and got no more exposure and views than I had before I started it.  I think it is a challenge to certain individuals but for me, I won't do anymore here.
