Have you ever paid for images for your hubs?
Are the best images purchased or found (if you look hard enough) in the public domain?
No. Uh-uh. No way. Never. I only use free ones.
Why do you ask, do you?
No, I don't, only free ones or my own. It just takes me a long time to find exactly what I want being so particular in a perfectionist kind of way. Thanks for answering and asking.
Do you use keywords which would lead directly to the source?
I always create my own images, If for some reason I am unable to do so, I will only use free images (properly accredited of course). If I paid for images, this would reduce any money I made from that Hub. There are loads of free images, they can be hard to find at times, depending on what you are looking for of course.
I've only used free ones, partly because there are many resources to get them: Wikimedia Commons, Flickr Creative Commons, Pixabay, MorgueFile, deviantART. And you can find some good ones with those resources. But I have speculated that the really quality photos you might have to pay for. I know I searched all over for images of a certain celebrity and the only decent ones I could find had to be purchased. I settled for a substandard free one, but was tempted to buy one in that case.
In general it would be much easier and almost always quicker to find good images if you're happy to pay for them but i agree with Robbie that (for most hubs) you'd be a long time earning that additional cost back.
If money or earnings are not your primary concern then it may well make sense to pay for images you prefer.
Although if you consider the old adage that 'time is money' then depending on the cost it may well make sense to pay for an image you love rather than spending hours (you could be using to better effect) to end up finding a free image that will 'Just do'.
I don't pay for images much, maybe 1 or 2. The reason being is that I work for companies that buy a lot of photos and I already have a massive library. That, and I use free photos a lot too.
