   What would you do ?
   
   If a commenter posts comments on your hub that are not relevant to your hub, would you deny the comment? Even if it is a good comment, it may distract from the purpose of your hub and pull people in another direction. What do you think? Would this situation possibly detour traffic to your hub?

   I get quite a few of these and I always deny them. I get people asking for help with problems similar to my hub topics, or other things they think I can help with. If a comment will not add value or is irrelevant, then I deny it.

   I don't know if they detour traffic, but yes; unless they are a very good friend and maybe sharing an inside joke or something of the nature, I will typically deny them. I don't intend to be mean, but I have had enough of stuff like "Jesus saves" or "You will save $$$ by shopping online at______" or the ever-popular, "Every time my Hubs are read an angel saves a dying kitten". Sure, such commentators may be able to present a very intriguing, articulate reason rationale for posting such things, but they really have nothing to do with the topic of my Hub.

   I would deny such comments and I don't think it would affect the traffic. If the comment is carrying the traffic to some other direction, it is better to get rid of it.

   The thing to remember about comments is that
   1) comments add to your content quantity.
   2) your comments are crawled along with everything else in the hub
   3) irrelevant comments are like irrelevant content
   
   However,
   I think it all depends on the comment and the amount of these comments. I may allow one or two but not a lot. Some comments hubbers leave on hubs like "nice hub" and so forth does not add value either but they don't really hurt. It all depends on the contents of the comment.
   
   The comments you should be most mindful of are the promotional ones with backlinks.

   I agree with the other responders. If the comment is off the topic of the hub, I'd deny it especially if it's more closely related to being spam than an actual question or discussion about another topic. On the other hand, if the comment or question is something you feel you could write about more in-depth and use it to create a new hub, you can write the new blog before allowing the comment to be shown and then add a response in the comment section directing that person to the new hub.

      Sheila, thank you -- looks like you all agree with some suggestions. I like your suggestion of writing a hub "something you feel you could write about more in-depth and use it to create a new hub....". I just may do that. Thank you very much.
