Has this happened to you when starting a new hub and what did you decide to do?

I started a new hub, research & confidence in tact.  Got no further than Title, summary and 1st. capsule.  Noticed an alert for "ads disabled due to content filters"  STOPPED & left page.  I've been this unproductive route before......never again.  My topic was "Child Abuse."  I don't understand the rules of advertisers & never will.  No money?  I can't waste my time anymore.  Would you simply write your hub anyway, knowing you cannot earn a single penny?

Yes, Sis, I would and have. Child Abuse is one of those topics that will be flagged immediately. I currently have four with the advertising disabled and they are all on child abuse.  Why did I post them anyway? Because the subject is too important not to. smile

Point very well-taken, bro. I did go back and forth on this.  I still have a bad taste left due to my most read hub having been ad-disabled, DESPITE the fact that I followed HP's instructions to the letter about editing to bring the hub up to snuff.

If the subject is important enough for me to write it, I wouldn't care less about earning money from it. Writing from the heart is so much more important than any accolade or revenue. Looking forward to reading your hub!

GF...that has been my attitude right along, but because I have such little time to write lately, I'm suddenly concerned about revenue.  Need to revert back to my old attitude.  Thanks, woman!

I write my hubs because I want to share information with people who would benefit from it. (And as such I disable ads on all my hubs and all future hubs) Child Abuse sounds like a great topic for a hub, which could be useful for many people to read. My advice, don't let money get in the way of your passion for writing.

sinix.....I have not been concerned with $$ in the past.  I copped an attitude due to my most read hub being ad-disabled.  I see this stubborn woman needs to "get over it!!"  LOL

Probably with the topic, especially if the hub provided valuable information, yes since child abuse is a serious issue.  Most of my payout come from the pageviews, I never notice much coming from adsense, ebay or amazon.

Lois....Thanks for your comment.  I'm beginning to see that I should go ahead and write this hub.  Need to adjust my attitude!

Yes, I have as well -- it mentioned abortion. Apparently it doesn't matter the angle, it's just not allowed. Strangely, though, I just finished updating one that has "neo-Nazi" and "neo-fascist" and "race hate" all the way through it, and not a single flag. Who'da thunk it? tongue I'm sure there's a list of words you can't say somewhere...

Edited to add -- the one on self-harm and self-mutilation didn't raise any flags either. It's sad that one can't write on child abuse; there are so many things that need to be known about how people can help children in danger, or victims of past abuse, or self-checks to make sure you're not in danger of acting out violently against frustrating children, and so on. Lots of constructive topics.

Exactly my point, wychic.....thanks.  This is why it is so perplexing.  But we are not to understand....we are simply to follow the rules!  Welcome to America and freedom of speech.

My hub on anorexia and bulimia was immediately flagged because of the original title.  I changed it.  It had a week of ads before the ads were manually disabled by a moderator because of the nature of the pictures.
Well - I made a choice to keep it as is because it's REAL.  I very well can't put chubby baby photos on it!  Honestly, I haven't come across too many people under the age of 18 on HP - so what's the issue?

I'm aware that many people read hubs that we're not aware of & I suppose that includes minors.  Young people need to be shielded from a fact of life such as child abuse???  If THEY say so!

I think if the topic is an important one, yes. Now I have not started to earn anything yet but I think doe things are to important to not write about.

I would encourage you to press on and write the Hub. I don't fully understand why some topics or subjects are taboo, but you've done the research and the information will be appreciated (though uncompensated).

Thanks Ed......I think I knew that I should just keep on writing......sometimes we need encouragement from fellow writers.  I appreciate all of you!

If it was an article I felt really needed to be told to possibly help someone then yes, I would continue and finish it. With the thought that the article might save just one person, it does not matter whether ads or pennies were missing.

I agree with everyone else who has responded by saying if it's an important topic, the money doesn't matter. As I see it, I'd rather not earn any money from a hub about something important people need to know about. I'd ask myself, "What's more important to me? Earning a few dollars here and there or saving a child I never met because someone read my hub and took the necessary actions to stop the abuse?"

    Hi, Paula,
So sorry that this has happened to you.  I have heard of others running into problems when shedding light on social taboos such as "Wife Abuse" or
    "Child Abuse".
I never came to HP thinking I would make any money, here.  I came to read and write and learn to get better.  You want to make $ on HP?  Then you
need to read some of your brother's work pertaining to money making on HP.
Mr. Holland can set you on the correct path.

    Good luck, Paula,
DJ.      Oh, I see that you have heard from 'the man'.  Never mind.

Truth is....This is a sore spot for me, b-cuz I seriously edited a hub per instructions from HP, but they NEVER acknowledged nor responded.  Just left my hub ad-disabled even tho I made the changes.  Oh well.  I need to get over it!

Paula, the same thing happened to me on a couple of hubs I wrote. I opted to write them regardless of the flag. When something as important as the fight against child abuse comes up, it's not about making money anyway. It's about getting the word out. As long as your article is found in Google, that's all that matters. Spread the word. Spread awareness. Who knows, you may even get contacted by a non-profit with a freelance offer!

Paula, while I cannot really answer this question, I have had no earnings from any of my "featured" hubs (I did publish hubs, about 7 or 8 actually.) I found it very frustrating going in circles with the setting up of the earnings account. Which is why you didn't see my hubs when you checked out my profile - I had unpublished them several days ago. Ads were showing up on all my hubs but I wasn't earning a cent.
I figured it wasn't worth my time publishing original content, which could not be published anywhere else, for so little readership and no money. I write on other non-earning websites, and some where I do earn a little, and I have a much larger circle of readership. Or at least, I did when i was more prolific in my writing. Presently, I have very little time to devote to it, so it made no sense to keep watching my hubscore fall - from 85 to 76 - simply from lack of traffic. I just removed the hubs, and if life is kinder to me over the next few months, I may restore them and add new ones.
Once again, thank you for the kind words of encouragement you left me on my Facebook question.

I can understand your reasoning, but I do hope that things improve for you so that soon you will share your obvious talents here on HP.  I am always pleased to welcome new writers into our Community.
