How did you discover HubPages?

   How did you discover HubPages?
   
   Was it by a purposeful search for a writing site? Could it have been by word of mouth? Was there an advertisement of some sort somewhere? Maybe it was pure luck?

   I work as English - Arabic translator .. one day, a customer asked me to translate an article from Arabic to English to publish it somewhere .. after i get the work done, he came back and said "Can you edit it for me?" I did, and came again and again and again.. I got mad and asked him why he keep editing it! he sent me Hubpages link and said that every time he submit the article, Hubpages reject it .. i read hubpages terms to improve the article .. In the meantime, i fall in love with hubpages and read hubs everyday

   I was looking for an alternative to social media; whereby people engage in meaningful / thought provoking conversation as opposed to 'this is what I am doing right now- status updates". I like the fact that one can share information and ideas on this platform and I was looking into blogging as an alternative social media pass time as well. I discovered Hubpages via a search engine by accident but it was a worthwhile find.

   I discovered it accidentally. My son used to write for Brighthub.com, then it was closed. I occasionally browse to read his articles on troubleshooting.
   I was new to the computer those days in 2012. Then, he was discouraged at the closure of that site and was searching for other works. I wanted to confirm whether it got closed permanently in 2014 and when searching for brighthub, I found one hubpages.com. Then went through it. It appealed to me and on browsing for some days, I came to know that I can also write there by signing up.
   So I got signed up and started with the article on cigarette smoking. This article was to educate and warn my son about the bad effects of smoking. But, he did not leave smoking and my writing work kept on. That's how I entered this beautiful world of Hubpages.

   I was advised to look for a writing site for two reasons:
   1. To sharpen my writing skills and broaden my subject base;
   2. To broadcast my own books through a specific page.
   Having found Hub-pages I first put together a page to do 2) whilst adapting my writing style 1) as a sort of 'sales vehicle'. I was asked after a matter of months whether I wanted to start a sub-domain...
   Several years later I have topped 105,000 readers, I'm on almost 300 pages on subjects between specialist travel, history and a few period sagas. The writing here also brings in some earnings... handy.

   I love to write. I was unemployed at the time. It was a horrible New Jersey winter and I was going to a writer's club once a month at the local library. The organizer of the writer's club told me of this site. And so the story goes. I was unemployed for 23 months and did what I do best. Write, write and write. And yes even with all the hub changers (which I don't like) I am still here.

   It was over 5 years ago now, although I still remember. My brother had joined looking for a source of passive income. He recommended I try it, since I like to write. And here I am 5 years later.. not really in it for money (although it's nice), but more for the experience and personal growth. I go through phases with HP, taking years off at a time, but always eventually coming back. I am currently "back."
