Why does Hubpages feature racist hubs?

So this hub by Susie was not only published  but it was mark as the "best".A hub which claimed that Obama shouldn't be the president because he is a muslim. Now if someone wrote a hub claiming that Obama shouldn't be a president because he is black.I am pretty sure that won't be featured. So why the hypocrisy?

If you're referring to the "I agree with Ben Carson, no muslims as president" item that keeps appearing on the front page, that's a discussion thread in the forums, not a Hub.

...just wanted to clear that up. As for why HubPages "allows" it, your guess is as good as mine. I try to stay away from discussions like that around here.

BTW have you seen what's happened to that thread -- it's gone off-the-hook crazy. Tons of birthers, end-timers, fundamentalists, ultra-rightwingers and islamophobes populate it. It's good to stay away from that. You may lose hope for humanity.

I was watching it for awhile for the "WTF" humor factor but stopped after a page or two because it started getting more scary than funny...

myshort~~ I don't believe I have seen the forum topic you mention.  However, by your description, it is not a "racist" thread.  "Muslim" is the name of persons who follow the RELIGION of Islam (Muhammed/The Quran).
Muslim is not a "race" of people, but their Faith identity.

As for WHY HP features any topic they feature, it seems to me that HP would best respond to your question.

This IS America. We have Freedom of Speech.  People may write on the topic of their choice (within the policies & guidelines set forth by the administration of a particular online site.)

If someone finds a hub, question, forum or topic offensive, they are FREE to avoid, ignore or simply not participate.  No need for upheaval nor drama.

I know Freedom of speech allows you to call blacks thieves, whites racist and blah blah but my point is hubpages has certain guidelines and i fail to understand why they would promote posts which encourage discrimination

I'm a "positive thinker" Freedm of spch also allows us 2 speak up in defense & support of the oppressed. We can demonstrate peacefully 4 the betterment of society, NOT blahblahblah. Again, ask HP. Fellow writers don't need to reply 4 THEM

i know Freedom of speech is a good thing but it also allows u to call blacks thieves, whites racists, mexicans drug dealers and muslims terrorists. You don't have to comment if you don't like ,i appreciate everyone who has given their valuable feedback

First off, freedom of speech has limitations. You can't lie and cause harm to others. That's why we have slander in the law books.
secondly,  civil rights laws and amendments to the constitution address religious persecution and racism equally.

Yes sadly, All Freedoms/Rights are abused & taken to extreme by the ignorant & radical. My own family, friends & associates include every color, race, & belief system known. We of compassion & tolerance need to be stronger than th

Racist hubs, questions, answers, forums, etc. are around because some people are racist. However, having freedom of speech does not free them of responses to their racism.

First, the one reason that it was marked as best is because so many people have responded to it. It doesn't matter if they were praising it or condemning it. If they left a comment, it counts toward its "popularity"

Secondly, the subject matter tends to attract a lot of traffic and commentators on both sides of the spectrum. As a result they'll squabble with other and seemingly push the traffic to that page. Unfortunately, it does attract a few unsavory trolls and loons in the process.

Either way, it's commentators pushing the popularity -- and possible reason that these particular articles haven't been banned, yet.

I know this is old, but in the short time I've been on this site I can't help but wonder why some of the most active posters in every section of the site just keep posting inflammatory hatred, particularly with regards to racism but also other topics. There's something incredibly hypocritical about constantly posting day after day about how other people are entitled whiners, which is in itself entitled whining.

Unfortunately I'm a very non-confrontational person, so I don't engage or call them out, but I do wonder why HubPages allows those certain users to continue.
