I'm a fan of HP, but if you are in a hurry to make money online, then you might want to use HP as a way to market other services, such as freelancing as a writer, web designer, etc.
Leverage your HP for developing a portfolio to sell your skills on Elance, Guru, oDesk, GetaFreelancer, RentaCoder, etc.
Also: you might want to check out Demand Studios, Suite 101 and Associated Content where you can get paid to write.
Personally, I would hate to wait on ONE income stream - work 3 or 4.
I made my first $100 online thru AdSense by self-hosted websites, within 2 months. I get a regular check from Google now, and it grows the more sites I build.
A website costs $8-10, plus $50 for a year of hosting (depending on who you use). I only have 10 websites, but have made $2500 in my first six months online from them between Adsense and affiliate sales.
The majority of my money comes from freelancing at Elance, I've made about $9k in that time so far, I'm only working part time.
All that to say: HP is a great community, a wealth of information, it's FUN, but as a platform to make money, sharing 1/2 of your AdSense is a horrible model to "make money."
HP has a great place as a supplement to other websites, to drive traffic to your other blogs/networks/websites/services...and to build experience and credibility.
I just read a Hub where the guy was raving about making his first $100 from AdSense - WITH 70 HUBS! - in FIVE MONTHS.
Um...no offense, but you could have used those articles and that content for 10 websites (like I have), and you could have made $2k - $3k in that same time...
If you're in it to make money, you should really read:
These are a few of my friends' blogs - we're making money online, not selling you anything but giving you a bigger picture of what you can have with some other monetization methods. Hope that helps.
