Pinterest - Hit 10,000 Pins

  1. WryLilt profile image87
    WryLiltposted 4 years ago

One of my hubs has hit 10,000 pins! It's racing ahead of my others with the next closest sitting at 4,000 pins.

Yes, this is why it's a good idea to create images made with Pinterest users in mind. Pinterest is now my top traffic source after Google.

WL, that's an impressive number of pins!

I am just as happy with pinterest, I am ver 15k pins on a no-bake cheesecake recipe.  Very few have had that type of popularity, but I must say Pinterest is my highest source of traffic.  Took 15 months to get to 10k and 3 weeks later another 10k from Pinterest.  Can not stress that site enough!  Congrats on the pins, I have learned that this is a long standing traffic, over a month and a half with only slightly lowered numbers.

I have some that have resulted in 200,000 hits to a hub in a few days. I have several today that are over a thousand hits from each one and I'm working on some more.

Food and politics are the big hits followed by

      1. How To Pictures
      2. Farming
      3. Snakes
      4. Beaches
      5. Cooking
      6. Food Photos
      7. Photos that link to recipes

I won't say which ones are the best but I will tell you I often get over 200,000 hits from almost all on that list when I hit on the right photo. I'm working on spiders right now with photos I take myself.

Perhaps this is my problem: I do not know what people would think is a truly awesome picture. Beyond photos taken by very skilled photographer or created by very skilled users of Photoshop or whatever other software is used to tweak pictures, the very large majority of illustrations is just used to back up what is being said verbally

Moreover, all I've seen on Pinterest is people putting up endless pictures of shoes and handbags, which is not of any interest to any useful topics at all

I think it probably has to do with your network of people, followers on pinterest also. You can't just join, slap a few pins on there, and expect it to take off. You have to spend time looking at other people's pins, repinning and commenting, etc, etc. Nothing is that easy.

      Hey WriteAngled,

It's a social network, which you can invite friends onto, share pins - like pins and even repin pins you want to display on your own boards.

You can make up boards for whatever topics you want, display pictures connected via a link to another location. People who come across the pin can click on the picture and go wherever you direct them.

Most of my followers are from Facebook and Twitter. I have gotten followers because of the things I post too.

        Oh, I see.

I do not spam my Facebook friends with other stuff, because they are mainly people I know from real life or from very focused Internet communities.

I was reluctant to open a pinterest account mostly because of the copyright issues. Greekgeek's hub on this topic is well worth the read:

    http://greekgeek.hubpages.com/hub/Is-Pi … Violations

But I eventually decided to jump in ("pinters" were pinning my web stuff anyway, so why shouldn't I?).

Since I made the plunge, some interesting things have happened, among them, there is traffic to my hubs from pinterest to the point where the devastating panda and penguin losses are showing signs of beginning to be offset (notice how I'm being cautious with this statement).

Also, creating boards has given me an insight into how I look at the world and how I organize what I see. That's a bit of a cryptic thing to say, but I think writers can appreciate how this insight might lead to inspiration. I think the juice that fueled this insight is absolutely, definitely, pinterest's visual foundation.

I could say a lot more, but maybe I ought to write an article instead.

Meanwhile, the message I'd like to get across here is that pinterest might be a way to generate hub traffic (I'll buy everybody in this forum a bottle of champagne if any one of my hubs delivers 100,000 views from pinterest or gets repinned 100,000 times...I don't ever expect that to happen...sorry in advance!), but it is certainly a way to increase the power of your online network and also to enjoy a different view of the world, a view that might lead to unexpected benefits.

Sally's Troveposted 4 years ago in reply to this

I've been following your hubs and thoughts about this and admiring the photos you've created.

What ticks me off is the number of repins on pinterest (you can track a repin for maybe 50 iterations). Once I see something that grabs my interest but also has nothing to do with the pinner's original work, I'm outta there. (At least somewhat to your point about not repinning.)

I set up my boards to feature my interests through my own work and also through original work from others. At least, that's my goal.

I don't pin anything unless the original author has a "pin it" icon on their site. This is a challenge. So, if you check out my boards, you'll see I'm not there yet with this goal. One day at a time.

To pin? Or not to pin? That is the question. Tis better to have pinned and lost, than to have never pinned at all.

Is there a place or hub that could explain how to use Pinterest to it's fullest potential? Can you make money from pinning? If so does anyone know how?

How do you sign up for Pinterest ?  I've requested a invitation from their homepage three times and have never gotten a reply. Is there something I'm doing wrong ?

I've decided to make you one of my good deeds for the day. Send me an email and I'll submit the address to Pinterest for an invite.

It is done. And according to Pinterest, the invite should already be in your inbox. smile

Just a reminder to all the people trying to "pin it lucky".

My success had nothing to do with me pinning. If you use a "Made For Pinterest" image on each hub you don't even need a Pinterest account to do well with Pinterest traffic.

Think that's the most common mistake.

Thank you but there is nothing in my inbox. I'll keep checking and let you know when it arrives. I even checked spam not there either.

I have never heard of Pinterest and after reading the replies I am very confused.  Do you just add in a picture on Pinterest then it links to your hub?

It "Pins" or bookmarks websites using the images on them. You can pin any image on any website. Well as long as it's not breeching copyright.

Maybe they've suspended invites until they get things sorted out.

OMG! This is thread is soooo long. I did not read it all (sorry). I just wanted to mention that it's not *just* pinning your hub. Most of the users are women and like pretty pictures with words on them, too.

Head over to picmonkey.com They let you doodle around with pictures for FREE! It really makes a HUGE difference. I just jazzed up the picture on an old Hub and re-pinned it and now its getting 30 views a day. Another Hub has almost 30k pins and re-pins.

If you don't know what I am talking about, go on their main page and take a close look at the pictures smile

That was what my original post was about, and my hub. Basically creating "Made For Pinterest" images.

    Its quite straight forward folks.

WryLilt is suggesting a means to create photos suitable for Pinterest for the following reason.

If you use HPads on Hubpages, then each page view (and HP ad click) counts towards an impression for your hub. With HPads, you get paid on impressions.

If a picture on your hub is 'pinned' on Pinterest by others then each time someone else clicks that picture on Pinterest to see what web page it is from, they end up visiting your hub, which generates a single page impression. Now if a second person viewing your hub also pins your picture on Pinterest, then it gets just as much exposure as the initial pinner and the same for each and everone else who pins on Pinterest. With a 'pin' on Pinterest, when someone pins, it also adds the url (webpage) of where that photo originates. This is why WryLilt suggests you do not even need a Pinterest account yourself.

Long story short, make pretty pictures and others may potentially pin it on Pinterest. All you have done, is made pictures and written a hub with bloody good content.

Exactly. smile Plus, putting text on the image prevents people stealing your own photos if you use them.

This is brilliant, Wry. I use Pinterest quite a bit with my recipe blog - I think my top image is showing 65k+ pins and Pinterest has brought over 1,000 a day to that one recipe... Not surprisingly it is also one of the most stolen recipes. hmm

But ... I never thought of doing a specific to pinterest image for Hubpages articles... again, BRILLIANT!

It seems someone has bumped this old post.

For the record, that hub now has about 60,000 pins and another has 45,000 pins.

Great reason to use MFPs smile
