How is it possible to have views on your hub before you even published it? Has anybody else experienced this? I mean, then all the views are, perhaps, wrong??

Hiya Marlene, Yes these are views of yours during editing/creation mode.
HP usually catches up and clears them out...

Since when does HP clear them out? Every view is a view, which is why Analytics is better for tracking traffic.

I noticed it a while back, when the account page stats are refreshed.
Right. Explains why traffic volumes waffle daily and often do not match up with analytics or even in-hub-stats. BigG counts any landing to the link -editor mode or not- as a view, as do account-view stats. As soon as the page is created, the tracking codes for them, Yieldbuild {HP} and Quantserve become active.

You can make GA ignore views from your IP.

Yes, indeed-e. Some do not know that. It is especially tough for those on a wireless or floating IP [ipad/tablet, wi-fi, apple airport]. But, I do not edit using iPad, never seems to work right. lol.
