I was on a 100 two days ago, then realising that my Groups were in a bit of a muddle I spent two hours sorting them out last night, adding them to the right hubs etc, now for the first time in two years I have dropped to 90! what the heck? anybody else seen this?

You always like to see that 100 score even if it means nothing like some say. It's just the idea.
Whenever I have done anything on my hubs I've seen a drop. I went through and cleaned up people I follow a few weeks ago and it really dropped.
From 100 to 88 is a big drop. It will come back. I have never been able to figure out the scoring on here.

My score moves around like crazy, no matter what I do! The only thing that's clear is that being active in the community and publishing hubs, puts it up, but always a short time after the events. There's some delay, I think. The rest is something I can never figure out. The groups do increase visits.

Hi Nell. Sometimes I think that the best way to predict the ups and downs of my hubber score is to read chicken entrails.

A few weeks ago, I published a hub in which the S-word popped up several times. My hubber score plummeted like a stone. My solution?

Except for the one in the title, I substituted the slightly ambiguous word, "shag," which is not something that we Americans ordinarily use in that context. And my hubber score gradually climbed back up.

Did that really make a difference? I haven't a clue.

I have never had it effect my hubscore but I noticed an increase in traffic.  It took me forever to group mine.

Scores don't mean anything outside of this site.  If your changes improve your traffic and earnings is what is important.

          Exactly.

And, Nell, whatever dip this is, don't worry about it. You can worry if your profile score dips below 75 (my knowledge may be old here, but under 75, there are consequences of some kind...just don't remember what), but I don't see that happening to you. Just keep doing what you do!

It's your traffic that matters, not your score. As long as it is above 80, that's good.

I have yet to figure out the scoring process and how anything I do affects it.  I am always happy to see it rise but not dismayed when it falls since I don't know the reason for either.

I don't even look at my score some days. I am monitoring my traffic and updating hubs. Guess ill keep an eye on the score and see what happens.

I have been at 100 a few times but also as low as 92 recently.  I don't think it means very much to be honest so I don't really bother with it any more.

It shouldn't matter if your Hub score is 80, 80 or 100, as long as you're happy with its content and it attracts readers. Lately every time I start a new Hub I'm reminded on the right-hand side of the template that 'This Hub is in danger of being considered sub-standard' or words to that effect. By the time I've finished the Hub it's OK and I watch it 'climb through the ranks'. It doesn't happen that all my Hubs rocket upwards, but enough to satisfy me. Some sit like lead, unread for months and then suddenly 'come to life' again. I've had the odd one or two that've stood out, above the horizon (it seems to level off at about 85 with mine), but most register in the mid-60's.

I'm constantly here there and everywhere even when I think I'm doing well. My lowest 88 and my highest usually 92 and I can't seem to get up that hill farther. Still I enjoy writing and sharing and commenting so I don't worry about it. I'm sure before you know it you'll be back on top with 100.

I wonder if this is related at all to the new Google Algorithm... My Hubber Score has dropped a few points but it's still in the upper 90s.

My score was 96 when I read your post so I decided to group my old hubs just to see what would happen. This evening my score is 98. The hubscore makes no sense to me. Mine has been up to 100 several times but then I log back on to the page and it is 98.

I was a 91 the other day, and super happy about it. Now I keep falling down lower and lower.

I stopped caring about this rating thing, because it goes up in down even when I have literally done nothing on this website. I don't trust the system.

Google has just changed its algorithm. My daily score has plummetted to 30 from 200. A hubber posted a video showing how google place all their own companies views first. I think its over!

      Yes // No.

      Yes because:
Nearly 5 years is a long ride for most top-tier content driven sites. That is a very, very long time in internet age. HP is not invincible, not immune to newer sites, platforms, technologies. And, certainly the Google Shareholders expect -no, demand- their interests come above the fold. Which does not help the situation.

BigG's main focus now is competing with Yingbook {Bing-Yahoo merger [SAGA] + Facebook} for web & mobile. five attempts have failed. G+ is the next go flop. Let's be fair: It is an old engine that has yet to truly modernize its fuel, plus change its parts for better ones, versus typical interchangeable parts {although they look really shiny out of the box}.

      No because:
I think HP has a new direction to look forward to. A direction, given its volume of users, publications, public recognition, global ranking, premium Yield Builder learning-solution for content and advert measures, that can take them beyond this handicap, detergent polluted machine {that has swallowed up half the worlds internet crud -err crude}. Opportunity exists with other power engines...
This also opens the doors to a new generation publishing system. One that can be a pioneer for others to come. One that could very well challenge, without much effort, the likes of defunct CMS platforms like WordPress, Tumblr, even Joomla & Drupal for UGC. I imagine a Hub Pages system such as this. and would not be surprised in the least, if this was the direction -the organic purpose- of its development from her beginning. I would also love to be the guy to work with them on building a completely Tablet  { iPad, SUR, Android, Kindle, Nook, Blackberry//RIM } dedicated CMS platform exclusively for UGC, else compete with them in the market with one. lol.

Think Big, now. Because the life expectancy of an internet business -in today's market- is three years tops. Either get swallowed up by the monsters, bought out by them or create something they are forced to see as a threat to their very existence. Only then, does your e-business stand a chance at longevity.

      James.

Nell, we can't be certain that regrouping was the cause of your hubber score's unwarranted decline.

I'm not an expert on hub scores. But I remember reading that excessive following of low-scoring hubbers can lower yours. There's one hubber who automatically follows as many new hubbers as he can, and his score was 1 the last time I checked. You may want to 86 most of the follows that you've made in the last fortnight, except for the ones whose scores are at least 90.

FWIW, I think that you're one of the best writers at here at hubpages. Best wishes.

Score or no score Nell, I've noticed my readership is down so I guess Google isn't liking me right now.

  20. JayeWisdom profile image89
    JayeWisdomposted 11 years ago

If I'm penalized by HP for following a relatively new (and talented) Hubber who has not yet built up her score, while out of the "other side of its mouth" HP constantly tells us to encourage new members, all I can say is....well, I'd better not say that in print.  Just use your imagination, Larry!

After checking my score and seeing that it has dropped two points since I clicked on "Follow" for the aforementioned Hubber, I feel nothing but disgust for the vaunted HP scoring system.  I really do not care what my score is now or how it morphs from minute to minute.

  21. lovebuglena profile image85
    lovebuglenaposted 11 years ago

I don't get why it should make a difference who you follow in terms of Hubber Score. It shouldn't drop just because you follow someone that's new to Hub Pages.

    1. brakel2 profile image73
brakel2posted 11 years agoin reply to this

All I know is that a male hubber stated that his score went from the 90s to the 80s. He figured  that he was following too many hubbers and would be unable to make comments and do other things, as he had taken on too much responsibility. He said nothing about low scoring hubbers. I even think he wrote a hub about it.
      I hope this information helps.
