For the past few days I have been unable to edit the text in hubs. As soon as I press 'edit', I get a message saying "Something went wrong. Please hit refresh and try reloading this page." I press 'okay' and the page loads up. Even if I reload, the same thing happens again.

If I try to edit a photo capsule, it is okay. I can upload, and I can add text beneath the photo.

But as soon as I try to edit a text capsule, I can only input into the title bar. I cannot type or paste into the text section.

Is anyone else having this problem? Or had it before? I have about half a dozen hubs I'm wanting to complete and publish, but I cannot make any progress at all.  Any suggestions, please.

I can't really help, except to suggest a different browser or to possibly clean your internet cookies, history, etc. and reboot.

For HP to help, they will need your operating system, browser (both with version numbers) and any other information you can supply.  This isn't a site wide problem - I just edited a text capsule with no problem.  Most likely something in your computer.

Thanks, wilderness. I have other computers. Maybe I should try logging in on one of them. Didn't think of it until I read your comment. It helps to know that it is just me with the problem. That narrows it down a lot. smile

My ISP is very erratic, and although I live on the grid my electricity service also goes up, down, and sometimes just disappears.
First of all, save all your writings on Word, because if your hub disappears when you are working on it, the work will not be lost.
I have a lot of odd things happen and sometimes it helps to use a different navigator. I cannot load pictures in IE so I use Google Chrome. I cannot load text in Google Chrome so I will open my hub up on IE to load the text.
Are you using Firefox? Try switching around. Hope this helps you.

Yes DrMark, I am using Firefox. Editing was fine one minute, but not the next. I actually started a couple of new hubs just in case there was a chance a fresh start would make a difference. Nope.

As you quite rightly noticed, I am off the grid and my satellite connection to the internet is nowhere near as stable as it was when I lived in the big smoke, so I kept trying for a couple of days before asking my question.

Thanks for your suggestions. The complexities of computers and internet make me remember the days of the typewriter more fondly.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing.
We are aware of any site issues that would result in the error you are seeing.
Without details it is hard to determine the fundamental issue, but it is more than likely related to your browser, ISP, and/or you computer.
@wilderness Provided some good general advice related to browser problems.
      Clear your cache.
Upgrade your browser (there have been two minor revisions to Firefox since the version you are using).
Restart your computer after the cache clear and browser upgrade.
If after those steps you are still getting the error, please try another browser like Chrome, Opera, or Internet Explorer.  This will help narrow down what specifically is the issue.
You can find more detailed steps here.

Hello, Matthew. Thank you for responding so promptly.

It is now 5 hours since the last time I checked (it wasn't working) but miraculously now it is. I had left the computer in hibernate (I tried restarting it repeatedly the past couple of days.)

The only significant difference I can see is that you took a look at my problem 3 hours ago.

Whatever you did, it worked!!! Thank you.

I will still upgrade my browser. Does clearing my cache mean I lose stored passwords to sites etc? (The last time I tried to give a computer a healing I almost killed it.)

        Thanks again.

Cache and passwords are separate, so clearing your cache should not affect any stored passwords.

      Hi, LongTimeMother,
What I do in cases such as this is start sending emails through the HELP button and the HP engineers should help you out.

The forums are the appropriate place for issues like this.  And is many times even better than email as they go to the exact same people and forums are a far better way to get details related to issues.  The forum also has the added benefit of being able to tell that someone else has reported an issue.

I'm moving this to the Report a Technical Problem Forum and checking with Matt M to see if this might be related to any bugs of which he is already aware. smile

Thank you, Simone. I did read the sticky at the top of the Technical Problem Forum and clicked through to see the info about my operating system etc, but thought I'd ask a general question first.

Mind you, that process gave me my best laugh of the day. I saw where the system thinks I am located on the map. It shows the right country! You'd spend at least three days in a car with the pedal to the metal to get anywhere near my house though. Oh, the joys of satellite communication.

Thanks again. 3am local time. I'll take a quick look in the TP forum before hitting the sack.

I have noticed working in one browser is quite different than another.  I prefer working and editing in one browser over another but sometimes a browser upgrade creates problems. For Hubpages I prefer IE or Chrome. They work with HubPages (for me). I have had problems with Opera and don't use it here.

Thanks everyone for stepping up and giving me advice. I appreciate it.

I don't know why, but Firefox has worked best for me in the past here. I will certainly look at other options again now, though.

It is really nice how members of this community are quick to respond. That's one of the things I like most about HP. smile
