One of my articles were marked "substandard." I wanted to post the link so a few of the experts could view it. Probably not allowed. This article is nearly 1,500 words and not substandard. It is very useful. How can this be?

You are not alone in your wonder about substandard.  It is such a difficult concept to grasp, explain, and live with.  Does it have multiple capsules?  Is it a topic others are interested in?  Does it have a video?  Does it have a poll?  Does it have original photos?  Again, most of all, is it a topic Google will like?
Seems we live in the shadow of the Google God ....  perhaps therein lies the standard.

..and yet Google sends out the message that it doesn't want people writing with the idea of pleasing Google, and instead wants people writing with the reader/user in mind.    hmm

Keep in mind, though, that on a site like this "substandard" can mean something doesn't fit into what the site wants these days - not necessarily that the same article/piece of writing would be seen as "substandard" "in the outside world".
