If you could give away a million dollars at this very moment, how would you disburse the funds? Keep in mind you do not need it and cannot keep it for yourself?

That depends. I would probably use an offshore account, creating a shell company and invest capital into it to further my evil plans.

Then I'd give some to Rael, that French crazy guy. Just so they can finish their temple and I could laugh at the aliens for not coming...or bow if our new planetary overlords do arrive on schedule.

There's also a cool TESLA thing up in Northern California I'd like see restored and stuff...

Oh, and I'd try and find room to buy out MTV..probably leveraging Viacom's stocks in some sort of takeover bid, just so I can finally take off such an oxycottonmornic pop punk poppy cock of a station. We've Fuse now, and all is better.

      wink

Oh, PLEASE consider FOX NEWS instead of MTV, and get that other oxycottonmoronic punk poppycock off the air????

If I did that I'd have to be getting into party politics, and to make things fair, I'd have to even it up by taking out either MSNBC or CNN. And I don't have money for more than one station.

MTV has created more atrocities. wink

But what if you DO need just a little bit of it?  wink

Seriously, I would run two charities:

      1) Run a homeless shelter where people could live 24/hrs a day and not have to be in the street all day.  The shelter would provide medical/dental/vision care, mental health assessment and counseling, job counseling, housing assistance, and independent living classes.  It would not just be a place to stuff people into to get them off the streets, but a place for people to get the real help they need, which is to become self-sufficient.  By removing the barriers that prevent them from succeeding, and by teaching necessary skills, it would help people succeed!  This system would also find the people who are slipping through the cracks, and who need substance abuse or mental health help, and get them the help they need.

      2) I would run a shelter for animals - I would take all kinds of animals:  dogs, cats, birds, and also farm animals.  I would also provide free food for peoples' pets if they can not afford to feed their animals, if they can show that they are not able.  Included would be help for poor people to get veterinary care for their pets if they can not afford it.

I have always had a plan for this.  A million though will not do all I want - but I'd like to build quality houses for elderly lone women - the appalling government housing for this sector of our community is disgusting. I'd like to do that, but I suspect I'd need more than a million.

Well as equal as a third can be and I wouldnt present it, would be anonymous. I always had a fear from I was a kid of going blind so have always donated to that. My dad died of a heart attack and I had one last year. And well we all know of someone who has died of Cancer.

I'd split it among 12 Hubbers and tell them to write full time for a whole year.

    Three conditions:

    1) it can't be hubs with affiliate links (clickbank and similar) or about 'making money online'.

    2) They've also got to write more articles to do with the same topic that they publish at HubPages but publish at other sites with backlinks to their related hubs.

    3) The money from their Adsense, Amazon and Ebay earnings from that year goes towards a trip to Australia for a party at the end of that year.

I'd personally travel to Africa and spend a month determining how I could do the most good with a million dollars.....and then stay there and see to it that the starving children and people who needed it got it.  BC...all those are good causes, but immediate funds in Africa would bring immediate results.

  7. Curious Traveller profile image69

I would split it three ways:

    1) I would give one third of it to my Church Minister to distribute per his wisdom.

    2) I would give one third of it to the child sponsorship groups in the Third World, who look after not only the children whom we sponsor, but their entire communities, in teaching them how to plant crops, dig wells for fresh water and a whole host of other wonderful things.

    3) I would give one third to deserving charities such as Cancer Research, etcetera, etcetera.

In the process of doing so, I would have addressed Faith, Hope and Charity - and hopefully made a difference in a very real respect.

Personally I would keep all the money and use it to help my family.  This may sound selfish and uncharitable, but my family and myself have many debts, plus living in Southern California is not cheap.  However, I would use my money wisely and not waste it.  In the past I saw how money was wasted when donated to one large charitable organization, which makes me skeptical of how some use the funds.  If I did have a lot of money I would rather buy someone a meal and see how it was being spent rather than leaving it up to others to decide.

I would give it to my friendly local neighbourhood hitman to finally eliminate Paris Hilton and Britney Spears.

Seriously, though, following the three charities route, Medecins sans Frontieres, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution and some type of 'Save the Sealife' charity.

I would buy two of my friends houses. One friend lives in a one bedroom house with her grandma, brother, sister, and cousin. Another friend lives in a very small house with her mother, father, sister, and grandmother. She lives in the den, and her sister lives in a closet converted to a bedroom. Then I would buy my boss a car. Hers is falling apart and she gives so much to other people. Those are the things I wish I could get for people.

The rest of the money would help out Invisible Children, I would create a scholarship for the students at my former high school, and a few more organizations. smile

So little money, so many causes. My own family has needs, but I think I would like to give it to those who need clean water and food first. My family already sponsors children in Africa. My daughter sponsors two kids overseas although she has five of her own, and it is a very affective way to make a difference. We see the results, and it is good.

I would research fully some needy charities ( or maybe Individuals) that never seem to get much from Govt and secretly donate or provide a worthwhile service or product for them

    i.e Car/Van/Truck
    Buildings

Create a business and hire who society deems 'unhireable'

pay them a decent wage for a decent days work so they have their dignity back again

Treat the Elderly , maybe a final reunion for some including the Vets...Honor them

Teach the poor how to grow food and money for enriching their soil

    Education ....Education.....Education ....

send people overseas to open their minds more

I would use the money to build a home, out in the middle of an unknown paradise (island or unchartered land)for victims of domestic abuse and their children. The home and its surroundings would be practical but also a dream come true for its guests. Surrounded by water, land, and wildlife, this would be a safe place for guests to get their lives together while enjoying much needed peace and serenity.

With any money left over, it would go towards a program to aid poor individuals in getting an education. Possibly have college teachers/professors go to its students houses to teach if internet is not possible. School needs to be cheaper!

I have always wanted to just randomly hand out money to people, and then see what they do with it.

So if I had a million dollars that I couldn't spend on myself I would give $1,000 each to 1000 people. All different types of people. Rich people, poor people, people in my country, people in other countries. And I would do it anonymously.

Then I would watch (without stalking!) and see what happened.

Then I would write a book about it that would become a multinational best seller, and I would give all the proceeds to charities that are staffed 100% by volunteers.

I would do things in my own strange way.  First off, I WOULD NOT donate to any charity that solicited me asking for money.  I know this sounds strange, but I know of hundreds and hundreds of needs out there.  I also hate the buzzard approach, where the minute a person gets a spare dime, the begging calls come in.  Also, in my perverse way, I would remember all those places, agencies and churches who DID NOT help me, or passed judgement on me during some of the hardest times in my life.  Instead, I would look for individuals who had great needs.  I would focus on the single adults, who are childless, and the elderly, since society looks down it's nose at both groups.  I would put people through school, help with medical bills, buy homes, whatever I could to ease suffering in these two groups.  I'd rent a handicap equiped bus to take seniors shopping, letting them stock up on nutritious foods.  In short, I would get personally involved in seeing that people were helped, directly.  AndI would refuse to tell them my name, or address.  I woulod have the pleasure of being their angel for the day.

IF i had a million dollars i would invest in a business and when it grows, it will get more income. By the time my business expanded into all areas e.g. health, technology, alternative energy etc. I will keep investing my money until i dominated the world market with my products becoming a trillionaire. Now i can donate to science, peace, kicking out military dictators and terrorists, gang members, arsenists, bla bla bla....., end world poverty with GM food, donate for a better life for all people and animals and aliens..

Help my friends and family, set up a trust fund for my grandson, donate to Crohn's disease, Tourettes's Syndrome, depression/anxiety research and Children's Wish foundation.  Actually, is $1M enough for all that?

Also, I would buy as much undeveloped, beautiful land as possible.  Use to be determined in future but it would be unspoiled so probably good for a park, wildlife preserve or retreat of some kind.

I can probably think of more things but I've probably run out of money by now. smile

    1.) childrens charity
    2.)teen charity
3.) buy a cheap foreclosed house, fix it up, as a non-profit, to help kids learn a 2nd or 3rd language, educational materials to include critical thinking, with a fitness area for the ones that need it.
4.) donate to third world youth educational facilities
