Please Help! Tracing Family Names back to Europe

For the past decade I have been trying to trace several family names (Surnames) back to their European origins.

Two are giving me particular trouble, as I can not trace them outside of the USA.

I would like to know the meaning of these names and any associated history.  If you have information, or know how to find info, and could direct me, I would appreciate it greatly.

    The names are:

Aznoe, previously spelled Aznaux, of French origins.

    Baltensperger, of German origins.

Oh that's tuff.  Many surnames derived as trade names I think in the 11 hundreds making them nearly impossible to trace.

Do you have your family tree?

I have family trees traced back to when the names came into the USA for these two names, but not beyond that.

Seems to me that Baltensperger may be Swiss not German.

Thank you for that information.  The second is a resource I had not come across before.
