Please Blog owners out there, I'm thinking of creating my first blog and I hear so much talk about this Aweber thing, but I would want to know some alternatives.

I'm thinking of creating the blog with Wordpress.

    Any tips?

Exactly why would you want an alternative.  Aweber is the leader in the industry and very affordable.

However you start out by talking about a blog.  You do understand Aweber is an autoresponder and not hosting.

Not trying to insult anyones inteligence.  Just making sure.

    Yes I know it is...

Maybe I'm not making myself clear. I want to build a mailing list of subcribers from the blog.

I don't need to send them automated messages - yet! Since I don't have readership yet lol. But I would want to start building a mailing list, like rss feed.

I'm sorry about that but you are crystal clear now.  I would still use Aweber since it does all the hard work for you including a means of opting out which is very important in these days of spamming laws.

Now I am not saying you have any intentions of spamming but people can be so darn cruel and accuse you of something you never did.

      Take care of yourself first.

There are some free services out there but once again if you go free you get free.  Aweber really is the industry leader and if you notice I am not even putting a referal link here.

On the other hand you could ask why do you need a mailing list? If people like your blog they will subscribe via the rss - there's an email option too if you feedburner (recommended and free).
I know all the A-list bloggers say you have to have a list - but to be honest unless you are hocking crapping internet marketing products - I don't see the point.

If you are running a real-world business then I take it all back and yes aweber is the industry standard

Thanks lissie. I guess I'll try feedburner first just to see how things work wink

I get a very, very good response from my eNewsletters for both my website and my blogs. And I do sell space in them to relevant advertisers and that makes me quite a bit more money than Adsense. Admittedly, you have to build up a good sized list first.

I use Constant Contact, although I've looked at others like Aweber, Vertical Response, etc. My top two choices have always been Aweber and Constant Contact. Both have pros and cons, but the number of built-in templates and ease of creating the emails in Constant Contact sold me.

In answer to the question asked in the title:
"Is there any free service that can rival Aweber?"

No. No. A thousand times No.

Eric and Lissie are spot on in my opinion Aweber is light years ahead of the few alternatives.

          getpaidtopost,

If you like your site why do you care what other people think about it?  I might try it, but honestly I can barely keep up with other sites as it is, which is always something to keep in mind.

What are you crazy, I always like to hear criticism whether this be good or bad.

I did not build the site for me I did it for others to use after i noticed the limits on other blog hosting sites.

the poster said she was thinking of creating a blog with wordpress

I do not ask people to join my service I let them make up their own mind, however due to the limits that are associated with wordpress.com or blogger it is a much better alternative also this is based on wordpress technology.

The options you have are emence compared with others. and its all affiliate ready with 90% going to the blog creator. This is still a working project and is being updated all the time,

Eric, I would be grateful if you could review my site and let me know your thoughts.

Eric Graudinsposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Well, see above for some of the content I found.

Other blog hosting sites have policies for a reason.

All the blogs I looked at were splogs, obviously put together by automated bots.
Even the "NEWS" link on your menu is full of comment spam.

Looks like a pretty bad neighbourhood, and if there are people trying to post legitimate blogs there, they will not benefit from being associated with domain name.

Google are actively looking for sites like this and removing them from the SERP's because they provide no value to their search clients or adwords advertisers. It will only be a matter of time before they find it.

So while you may have noble intentions, other blog sites have strict policies for a reason. And if you have no standards, reality is that spammers will see your site as a welcoming place where they can store their garbage. Unless you police these users and remove the splogs, I can't see much of a future for the site.

Sorry, this is probably not the sort of review you wanted.
I hope you are able to address the problems.

I will create the blog with wordpress.ORG not.com or blogger.

It gives me quite a bit of creative freedom, me thinks smile

I also bought a domain .com and host of course.

O you have hosting, you should have said. yes wordpress is the best blog system out there.

I thought you was looking for free blogs with hosting.

    2. getpaidtopost profile image41
getpaidtopostposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Eric what you did not notice is that all of the blogs are on subdomains so they are not affected by each other as far as SEO is concerned. Search engines see subdomins as not being related to the main domain. this is why I have not deleted these quality lol blogs as yet as they don't affect anyone else but them selves which i think fare. Just take a look at twitter. that was full of crap for 6-7 years before it became big, now as i speak they are doing a clean up after 8 years since the launch.

I myself love policy's and will soon start to enforce policy's on my members however the limits of other blog hosting company's such as bandwidth charges, plugins not available, and wordpress is the worst with charges for every little thing you do. this is what I mean by limits.

I noticed all right, and normally what you say is correct.

But remember what I said about a bad neighbourhood.

If Google sees hundreds, or thousands of subdomains that are splogs, do you really think they won't blacklist the domain which houses them when it comes to their attention?
Good luck with that business plan.
Not to mention the terms of your web host that could be infringed. Your sites wouldn't last 5 minutes on my server. (But then again you wouldn't choose me as a host anyway, because I don't offer unlimited everything. lol )

And sorry to the OP for the off topic content.
I've said all I intend to smile

I will clean all these out tomorrow. need to go to bed now though you have a good night.

There are a few different wordpress plugins that are free and act like autoresponders and newsletters, but neither have the flexibility, usability, or power of Aweber or any other "high profile" competitors.
