when I start up my pc it scans the hard drive and takes about 3 1/2 hours to finish before it will actually start up. I don't know much about computers but I need to know if this may be some sort of virus or something I may be able to fix myself...!
Yes, there is a wonderful service to help with this problem. Go to: www.sheepf***.... wait. This is spam isn't it?
You will want to google a utility called the Drive Fitness Test. It's free and will test your hard drive.
If the test fails, replace the hard drive - if the test passes, check for viruses and spyware.
I recommend the Trend Micro online scan for checking your system for viruses and the malwarebytes program (downloadable for free) for checking for spyware.
As links here are a no-no, you will need to google these, but take it from a computer tech (which I am) the Trend Micro online scan and the Malwarebytes program will rid your PC of any nasties and both can be found through a google search.
