Referral Tracking Words (?) Confused.....

I'm still kinda confused on how to create a referral tracker using a word.  Does the word I  create replace my referral I.D.?  What if someone else has the the same tracking word?

I'm just not clear on this.  So far I've just been using the 'link to this page' feature with my I.D. already embedded.  This works fine.  But now I want to create referral trackers using tracking words also (particularly to monitor referral signups).

    Thanks in advance for help.

Every tracker you create is technically a "refferal tracker" When you create a new one, it will tell you if that name has been taken..You can then choose another one...

I think there is a time limit that someone has to "sign up to Hubpages" that have arrived at Hubpages using one of your referal trackers...!!

More advice will follow to clarify things but hope this helps for now:)

So does this mean that a referral tracker can be used as an option only for when I'm referring other hubbers' content...not my own right?

    Thanks

You can use it for others hubs and you can use it on your own hubs.

Well when referring my hub content it seems easy just to use the link to this page at the bottom.  I guess I'll only use those referral word trackers maybe when I refer others.  I still don't really see the advantage of using the word trackers (especially since it expires after a  limited set time).

        Thanks for the replies everyone.

The cookie expires, not the URL tracker.

You can use a tracker in a link to just about any page on the site.

whats a permalink? I clicked it to see what it did and nothing happened.. the screen blinked.. endulge me?

also on the link tracker, how does this referrel to other peoples hubs for a percentage of revenue work, I read the faq and am still confused.. say I want to refer others to someone hub and get paid for sending them there (is that how it works?) how do I do this?

also if I do a referrel link (to get my writer friends to sign up for the service and get (is it 10 or 20% of their revenues for life, in one place you say 10% then in the faq you say 20%??) an account and start writing hubs, say I use the tracking code in a hub link of one of my articles, then delete the hub later does that disassociate that referrel from my account?

I'm really trying to wrap my head around this affiliate/referrel thing because I think it will be a huge income stream for me when I get all my associates signed up under me..

ok one more question related topic.. before I knew about the referrel/affiliate program (I was brand spankin new myself) I had my mother go and sign up but I didnt give her a link, I did it through that invite your friends email thing for yahoo thorough the site.. is she linked to me or if not can I have her linked to me as a referrel since I was the one who invited her?

thanx for any help you can give me on this..

      Jerrico

HubPages referrals work in two ways. And the percentage of pageviews do vary. I've explained it in greater detail here.

If you delete a hub it shouldn't affect your referrals, as they are already attributed to you.

It just gives you a link directly to that particular forum post -- which can be useful if you want to reference it from somewhere else.

Let me know if Darkside's hub doesn't clear things up.

Basically, you get a variable slice of the impressions across any page on the site immediately when someone clicks on a link with your tracker for a period of 2 hours  (for simplicity just assume the slice is about 10%, you won't be too far off).  Secondarily, if that person you referred signs up for an account (within 30 days) -- you'll get a 10% share of the ad impressions on any hubs they ever create.
