Just put up my first post relating to magic, and I was wondering if there are other Hubbers who are into the art as a Hobby, Pro, or just fans like myself.  I'd love to find others with a similar interest.

OK, I'll admit, I misunderstood your question completely!

I love Derren Brown. He's really something special. I think he's got this old school way about him. Most of the famous magicians working today though just leavel me "bleh". They lack charm.

Para- Didn't mean to confuse you.  (If you have any tips in that arena, we can talk about them privately).

Embitica- I love Derren too.  It's hard to find his stuff in the States.  I've had to go to great lengths to get his DVDs and and see his TV shows.  But I did pick up one of his books not released in the states when I was in Australia.  Really lucky, but really expensive ($45 Australian!).  Have you seen any of Cyril Takayama?  He's my other favorite recent magician.

Something wicked this way comes was fantastic!

Derren brown is the one that got me interested in NLP. Although it isn't the "magic" side of his repertoire, I can do some magic tricks with Visual Accessing queus occasionally (when it works!)

I like all of Derren's stuff, but the parts that really excite me are when he's not using "magical" skills, but strictly psychological ones.  I especially love when he plays simple guessing games with people, or when he played blind tic-tac-toe in his US series.  What do you think of NLP Thooghun?  I have heard many mixed things about it, but I haven't tried any of it myself.

I think the trick with Derren too is that sometimes he says he's using NLP, but he really isn't. But he is certainly what got me interested in NLP. I've only just started reading though. I'd love to learn hypnosis, but I will just have to add that to the list of 1001 things I would like to learn how to do smile

Sometimes the SciFi channel repeats his shows, but I missed it the last time.  If you keep an eye out though, once or twice a year they should repeat.

His website says he's planning another tour later this year (I think), but it maybe UK only. I am actually tempted to make the trip just to see him live.

I'm not familiar with Cyril Takayama. I'll look for him on Youtube! Thank God for Youtube really. Lots of Derren's stuff  is on there, including the Russian Roulette.

I've noticed Derren using that misdirection too.  It seems whenever he tells you how he's doing something, you can be assured he's using some other method.

I would also love to see Derren live.  But until he starts a US tour, it seems unlikely to happen.  Le sigh.

    Oh well.

If your looking for Cyril stuff, I recommend his tricks involving " shadow chopsticks" and "the hamburger".  The second one is linked in my magic videos article.

Any thoughts on the NLP Hubs?  I'm not sure which ones are worth reading.

I actually haven't looked at the NLP hubs. I spend so much time working on my websites that I rarely get much time to read stuff that isn't directly related to what I'm working on and NLP is more of a side interest. But I did watch those two Cyril videos. I really like the hamburger one. That was brilliant and funny!

Yeah, the hamburger video is really great.  He also does a funny set as an old man on the subway that you might like.  He freaks out some people, good stuff.
