I understand too many links are discouraged.
Do people put pictorial ads to the right side of and below their text as a normalcy-along with further links in the actual text?
As thranax has said, HubPages decides what Adsense ads to show. You can influence how many by your layout. Split your text up over several capsules to allow ads to display between them. Always start your Hub with a text capsule and make it fairly long so an ad will appear in the top right hand corner.
Adsense ads are automatically configured on your Hub. You but your adsense code into the affiliate field.
More then two links to one site will get your hub a chance of being overly promotional and will be unpublished.
Ad layout will also vary if high, medium or low ad settings are selected.

I think it is related to images being used for the HUB ads and Google ads. When I turned off the Hub ads my adsense revenue rose significantly. I think it is because the block of adsense ads to the right of the column...

I am still getting full-width Google ads in the middle of my pages, messing up the layout.The impact of this is that it looks like the Hub is only a few paragraphs long, and readers are unlikely to scroll down far...

Does anyone have luck with their Hubs being accepted to a niche site without their Amazon ad getting eliminated? I wrote a Hub in which I detailed my personal experience with a certain product and included an ad for it....

If the intro text is longer, on various hubs (some of mine as well) there is an Adsense ad right below the image (see image from my hub this morning).For my own blogs I avoid adding any Adsense below (or next or above)...
